Whenever someone on Reddit posts about getting a boy Guinea pig and mentions they are new I always send them a link to your boat cleaning videos! I had piggies as a kid 20 years ago and there were NOTHING about boar cleaning in any of the multiple books I had. Luckily I only had females. You would write an amazing book on Guinea pig husbandry! PS. I’ve purchased the cbd gel 3 times now, it’s been perfect for my cats! Thanks for everything Saskia!

Oh yeah, my mother also had piggies as a child. The books had no idea how to take care of piggies. She didn’t know anything and got a small cage… one of her guineapigs even ran away 😢…

This must seem so strange to the piggies. I know I would be really uncomfortable if were to be flipped over by a gigantic creature, who then starts poking around my nethers and peeling stuff out. The piggies handle it a lot better than I would. They must feel SO much better once they're all clean again. I bet its itchy and sore.

Thank you for all your loving care of the guineas! I wonder why people would keep them as pets? This sort of care seems so daunting, complicated, even hard for an inexperienced person to do on their own...certainly not a children's pet. I had friends with guinea pigs as a child and they never got this kind of care...how they must have suffered!

I’m a minor. 13 years old, I have 2 guineapigs, my mom has done tons of research and has teached us. My guineapigs are really happy with their cage, it’s not one of those small ones it’s big and they get floor Time everyday ❤

I have a suggestion: you could have a small bowl of warm water close by so that you can put warm water on this area to make it easier and quicker to remove.

I came here to suggest the same thing. I would also have a nice fluffy (for lack of any way to describe it) wash cloth that could be wet with warm water to do a warm, wet compress on it. Oil works well to a certain point. Water would definitely work better to loosen the dried and stuck material.

I've noticed Beavis tends to get some build up in his pocket. He's 3 1/2 years old, not as bad as the piggy on here. But I wonder if eating too many watery veggies can also make the poop build up in the perennial sac? My boys eat a lot of tomatoes.🍅🍅🍅🐹🐹

Yes. 3.5 is quite young for that. Tomatoes also aren't great in high doses. Too acidic

@@Jenapantano Yeah thats why I don't give them large amount of tomato. Saskia says you can give them some everyday but in small doses but I may take them off tomatoes for a little bit. They wont be happy with me but it's for their own good.

What IS the evolutionary purpose of the sac?!

It makes a sticky, smelly secretion used for scent-marking. When we do boy bonds, they flare their perineal sacs and it smells very strongly. They’ll sometimes wipe their bums on the fleece to scent-mark.

Thank god this video popped up for me! My older boy has the same issue as the first piggie and I was frantically trying to find out what was wrong and what to do! Big sigh of relief I will definitely start the cleaning like this and im glad to know its pretty common. Does anyone have any other tips or recommendations? He is currently taking Oxbox Critical Care because I give it to my piggies whenever I notice something is off. Thank you!!!!

Hi, I cleaned out our boy's pocket yesterday, and also took out quite a few poops too, which looked fine. I checked him again this morning as he's a bit off colour, and I removed some more poop. I'm going to check him again shortly. Does anyone know please why I need to remove his poop all of a sudden ... the poop is absolutely fine in colour shape and texture, it's just all of a sudden collecting and not popping out as normal it seems?! This happens more frequently in older boys. So check older males more regularly. But usually every 8 - 10 weeks

Ugh I've been impacted before due to medications (sorry TMI) and it is the most uncomfortable feeling!!! But that relief once I drank some mineral oil.... Ugh I had been in discomfort for over 24 hours.... Can't imagine how hard it is for these little sweet hearts that go for God knows how long

You need to start using baby wipes. Like they work Soo well in my piggy's. If u use a qtip you will end up using like 10 of them.

Agree! My oldest baby is 6 1/2 and was quite good at cleaning himself. But over the last 6 months (after loosing his best friend) he started developing arthritis. He can't keep himself clean anymore, so I have to check and clean his male business, paws, eyes, etc. twice a day (when he gets his medication) for him to prevent impaction and make him comfortable. Besides that, he is still going strong and enjoys his sunsetting months (hopefully years) with his friends. Senior guinea pigs should be checked almost daily - not only for the boy parts, but also for their paws, since they are also prone to get inflammation or bumblefoot.

They only fix if there is a health reason I believe. It's expensive and has risks. That's why they pair up males with males and females with females.

Yuk !!!! This is enough to let me know that I never want a Guinea pig . That was so nasty 🤮. Like a big load of poop . That’s just nasty. I’ll stick with a dog. They can go potty outside and even though u have to pick it up it still not directly in ur face. U turn the bag inside out and (I double bag) scoop it up and tie it in a knot . The video I seen just before this one was Totally nasty and I just can’t see myself doing that. Lol 😂
