*We're back and need some help: how can we implement some fun archetype cards like Heroes and Roids into the mix to help spice up our decks? We don't want them to stay too similar to each other! We're totally open to some fun themed challenges and ways to "inject" cards we might have missed into the pool. Maybe Polymerizations? Free Fusions of archetypes a person wants to build? Duplicating cards we pull for free? Please let us know your ideas!*
@erebus973 Жыл бұрын
I think there is 2 ways for Poly to be added. Either a free add to both your decks for fairness or have it as an extra reward for winning. As injecting cards go, I don't think it would be bad if you pulled a card and basically made it so you had a set of 3
@benetnasch2096 Жыл бұрын
Both players should have at least one polymerization since GX was so heavily focused on fusions. I also think if a fusion monster is pulled, the player should be granted the materials for it. Additionally, if you get all the materials for a fusion, you should be granted that fusion monster.
@erebus973 Жыл бұрын
Also, trading like you guys did should be encouraged 😂
@shadowbreaker9083 Жыл бұрын
Haven't finished the video yet but I definitely think that both of you should get 3 poly, and if you pull the fusion monster you can get the material for free and even if you pull the materials but don't have the fusion monster you get the monster and for the duplicate I think it should only work on certain cards where you need multiple copies
@UltimaKamenRiderFan1 Жыл бұрын
One option to facilitate Fusions could be allowing contact fusions with cards on the field, though maybe just for one archetype per episode.
@Daldi564 Жыл бұрын
I vote that any Polymerization cards you two pulled in the Rare Hunters series can be brought over to Slifer Slackers. Fusion Summoning was a huge thing in GX, even more so than in DM. I think a good way to add in the cards you guys want, would be to allow the loser to go to the ‘shop’ (Another APS member). At the shop, players can trade rare cards, for the cards theyd possible want as the selection is only 27 cards. Depending on who y’all pick, the trades could be heartbreaking! As a simi final, you both could battle the shop for a card, a pack, or a last chance trade before the seasons last duel
@coolyeh1017 Жыл бұрын
I vouch for the shop idea. In the show, there was a card store the protagonists go to once in a while to get cards. In fact, I think both the winner and loser should get "shop credits" sort of like store credit. But the winner gets less (like half) of what the loser gets and they are allowed to save credits (but only for one more try). Another alternative is that the winner can get one or two cards while the loser gets one more card than the winner. This way both players can get cards to spice up decks and archetypes and not just one person.

For adding more cards to the card pool, I suggest that the Princeton Brothers offer a briefcase that includes 1 copy of each card of a specific Archetype that has been released up through the episode's pack, up to 10 Archetype or Archetype adjacent cards chosen randomly including Structure Deck and Promo Cards. These Princeton Cases could appear every 1 or 2 episodes and you can collect the whole 10 Card Case if you win. The loser gets 5 cards of their choice from the Case, but they can trade in cards they either don't need and/or rare card(s) to get the full 10 Card Case, and depending on how much they trade in they can get 2 copies of some or all cards in the current Case. The Princeton Cases should be randomized each episode as well. Y'all can start off with 2 Princeton Cases each next episode to catch up.

For all the anticipation waiting for the next episode, clever deck building working with unorthodox strategies, and raw cost of the box, it absolutely deserved games 2 and 3. Hoping to see a card trader in the future, maybe some yu-gi-oh quizzes on prices, tricky rulings, effects or name of niche cards, something like that. Really lean into the GX school setting. Just a way to add back things you missed from previous boxes, and open up more strategies. Maybe see some more power cards enter the game through quiz rewards.

The indomitable fighter had a crappy drawback but it was due to two things they were pushing at the time. One was a lot of postion based support (there was a lot that revolved around changing battle postions through spell/trap effects or supporting mosnters in specific positions.) The second was union monsters. Despite havign the same attack, the fighter was less comparable to Goblin attack force and more so to Giant Orc. Lots of people even recognized him as the poor man's giant Orc for a while. Just like with Orc, they was a union monster that could cause the change of the battle postion, once per turn and would be destroyed in its place. For Lie Lie, the union was a fairy called Protective Soul Ailin. Both union's switching effect proved fairly useless as they did not negate the main monsters effect. The switch was a once per turn that could not be used until you would normally have the abilty to switch them anyway. The only real useful purpose was if you used your one normal switch and your opponent used a card effect to put it immediatly bakc. You could play magic rotating cards but reversing this again and burning that oppoent's card..not the best. The more useful sacrificial effect makes the backstory more tragic..so apparently Lie Lie was based on an Upperdeck exectutive at the time. Lie Lie was his nickname. His son tragically passed away only several hours after his birth and was named Ailin. Yeah..the cards are based off of them as a tributr to his deceased son..which makes the unioned monster dying to keep the fighter alive more messed up. This seems to be why the came up with this specificlaly weird and downgraded card combo from other existing ones. The main monster is neast warrior (which wa snot nearly as supported back then) and the union was a fairy that made them fairly poor at deck synergy. It was mostly a combo for the same of a combo with the union aspect being the only stratgy with stabel support. It never was meant to be much of a competative set but just a sweet commemortive act from a father to his son. Sadly, the card combo was only made worse by Konami's over-estimation on the mechanics they were pushing. Sadly, even the better unions kf rhe time were just not good enough for their counterbalances and the postion switch shenanigans never took off. They never stopped pushing the later with some mild success under Karakri, Wind-ups and to a greater extent, Subterror. Clown control also had a bit of a hurrah on some of the platforms depsite being a less planned archtype and more just old cards that made the gimik work in the right settings.

I posted this as a reply but was worried it got buried, so I'm pasting it here too :) I like the idea of having a shop after each duel with key staple/archetype cards. In order to buy cards from the shop, you must spend 2 cards of equal rarity to get it, and you can only make up to 3 purchases each episode. This synnergizes well with the theme of rare hunters because the winner will have more UR cards to trade in so it won't hurt their deck as much trying to get those UR cards in their deck.

Slifer Slackers Standings: Paul: 1-1 (7-9) Alec: 1-1 (9-7) As many have said I think allowing the use of Polymerization pulls from Rare Hunters would make the game more interesting. Watching these duels have been quite fun, watching old school yugioh play. It's gotten me thinking about how side decking would work during this era. Since it's a GX and Duel Academy themed series, I think it could be fun to have a trivia "test," or "classroom competition" about obscure yugioh rulings or card release dates, monster attack levels, ECT. And have Paul and Alex get points for how well they do and a bonus for winning, and then they can "spend" points on common and staple cards like poly and heroes, but nothing above rare rarity.

someone has mentioned this but my vote would be a shop. In GX, there was a card shop the protagonists go to once in a while to get cards. I think both the winner and loser should get "shop credits" sort of like store credit. But the winner gets less (like half) of what the loser gets and they are allowed to save credits (but only for one more try). Alternatively is that the winner can get one or two cards while the loser gets one more card than the winner. This way both players can get cards to spice up decks and archetypes and not just one person. If you REALLY want to spice things up you make turn things into a rouge-like minigame sort of how Progression Series or Master Roulette does where you have a series of "lifelines" or after the battle both the winner and loser get to pick a "beneficial effect" or "beneficial card" The winner with his own card pool and the loser with his own card pool, with the loser getting a slightly better card pool. For example, at the end of the duel, the winner gets to pick at random from the following effects: "Get an additional booster pack from the set they just dueled with" "Choose any previous set in this series and get one additional booster pack from that set" "Pick an archetype, choose any one spell/trap featuring that archetype, and add it to your card pool" "Pick an archetype, choose any monster featuring that archetype, and add it to your card pool" "Choose any C/UC/R from this set and add it to your card pool" "Choose any generic monster and add it to your card pool" While the loser's card pool can be like this: "Choose one non-banned staple card, and add it to your card pool" "Get two additional booster packs from this set" "Choose any previous set in this series and get two additional booster packs from that set" "Choose any UR/SR from this set and add it to your card pool" "Pick an archetype, choose any card featuring that archetype, and add it to your card pool" "Choose any generic monster/spell/trap card and add it to your card pool." You can implement it with a shop too and thus more effects right before going shopping, this will increase the variety and randomness that could happen. Think of it like a card store raffle: "This card allows you to grab any rare card in the shop" "This card allows you to grab an SR in the shop" "This card grants X additional credits to spend at the shop, the credits must be spent at the shop immediately or else void." "This card allows you to reduce a card price by 50%" You can even make a skit with another APS member being a shopkeeper like in Gx or Crypt of the Necromancer. The shop should be limited to the booster sets already featured in this series/some staples or non-banned cards. Such that any player cannot get a head start on future cards. If it gets too hard/expensive to get old sets or cards, I suggest searching for or making good proxies.

What i mean is as long as you have all the materials on the field, you can sacrifice them to special summon the monster you want (kinda like Blue Eyes Twin Burst) Or winning a duel grants you a polymerization to put in the deck (or missing ritual piece), while if you lose the duel, you can open a pack from a previous set that COULD have Poly

Create a "budget" system within the realm of 10-20 bucks and then have it so you can only pull from the card pools of sets you've already opened/in generation. Then allow each other to save up budget for better decks later if wanted. Will create all the variance you need and give you access to support cards that you might not necessarily get otherwise. Plus it can support cardshops in person for singles and buying online like TCGplayer.

Suggestion: Each player gets two copies of Polymerization and the winner takes a copy from the loser after every duel. Paul starts with 2, Alec 2. If Paul wins, he gets 3, Alec 1, and vice versa. I’m not sure how balanced it is but it seems fun and also fits the theme of the winner taking the rarest card.
