Losi Tenacity DB Pro and TT Pro 4s Motor Upgrade

This is a really easy and cheap way to safely run 4s power in your buggy or truck. It’s certainly not the only way, but it’s a great option. Happy bashing!
Motor- Spektrum SPMXSM2200
Battery hold down extension- two 3mm x 45mm screws, two 10.75mm spacers
Pinion- 18t Mod 1, 5mm shaft

yes it does fit i have a motor and esc out of a 6s erevo in my tenacity, it does backflips like crazy

Stock esc? Does the motor overheat at all? Because my tenacity db often overheats with at 14t pinion gear.

Yes, the stock esc can put out far more current than this motor can draw. Are you running 4s with the stock motor?

So I only want to run mine on 3s battery but want to run the 4s motor. my stock motor would overheat on the 3rd battery even with dual cooling fans and heat sink. my question would what tooth would I run with the 3s battery with the 4s motor? I like the option of having the ability to run 4s if I wanted to.

Hard to say because there are a lot of variables, but I’d probably start with the 17t that came with the car and adjust from there. Do you have an infrared thermometer? If not, you can grab one on Amazon for 20 bucks. Best way to monitor your setup! You should definitely try a 4s though. You could then gear it way down but still have the RPM’s to get the speed you want. Heat will never be an issue. If you’re worried about your drivetrain you can turn your punch down to limit torque.

Thanks for the reply, I don't have any 4s batteries right now but will buy some in the future. I have just 3 spektrum 3s 100c batteries. I do have a infrared thermometer. definitely will try 4s sometime. I am not too worried about my drive train, I have replaced all of it anyways, I'm a little hard on it....ooopss.

Did this today, also swapped out the pinion gear for an 18t. It seemed a little tight even when I adjusted the motor as far as it’ll go. Did you have the same outcome with the 18t pinion gear?

I did not have any issues, there was plenty of room for adjustment. Can you rotate the motor and use a different set of mounting holes? I don’t remember offhand if this motor has sets of holes with different spacing.

did you have to adjust the motor mount? If i align the 4s motor it seems it needs bigger mounting screws which do not fit the standard motor mount, wondering if you drilled them out to fit bigger screws

I did not have to modify anything. If you got the Lasernut motor it will just drop right in and use the stock mount and screws. There’s another Spektrum 1900kv motor that’s meant for a 1/8 buggy and has a larger can size. It’s a 4274 instead of the 3660 that fits our motor mounts. Maybe that’s what you bought by mistake? If you can make it fit it’ll be a torque monster.

Does 4s have a higher top speed in comparison to it on 3s.

The 1900kv motor spins at a lower RPM than the stock motor, but since it has a lot more torque you can put a bigger pinion gear on it to get a higher top speed.

I would assume so, but the chassis is a different part number. Might have to drill some new holes.

You definitely can. I’ve run 3s on an 18t pinion and the motor doesn’t get over 130 degrees. You could get away with bigger, I just leave the 18t in there because that’s what I run with 4s.

@@misterts7635I have mine on 18T on 3S with the same LaserNut motor. The stocks setup felt more powerful. I feel like I downgraded. What do you think? Maybe the lower KV works better with a taller tire? Like the ones found on the LaserNut? Thank you

@@thecustomshopinc.6883 run it on 4s! The advantage of the lower kv motor is that it can be run at higher voltage without overheating. The lower kv motor sacrifices rpm for torque gain.

tenacity on 4s is where its at 3s was ok but i like overpowered if i can hold the trigger for more then 5 seconds not enough power

Not so far. I’ve had to replace diff gears once but it was still on 3s at the time. Just don’t keep the throttle wide open on jumps and you’ll be fine!

They hold up great on 4s. The only time I’ve blown one out is when the foam got waterlogged. I’ve run at least 4 set of them.

Yes, stock 40t spur. It runs very cool with an 18t pinion, so you could definitely go up in pinion size.
