I didn't have the time to go to trade school as I was working full time in a job I really don't like but have been there too long to leave now. But I have watched several of your youtube videos and also seen several of your tv shows, i plan to spend alot of time on your academy site. Thanks again for everything you are doing.

Hearing your story reminds me of my dream, building a machineshop and making other peoples dreams come true. I love CNC Machining and I want to thank you for everything! I really hope I can advance in my dream soon, but i know it will be one step at a time and there will be many many steps to go. The one most important thing is to never give up no matter how hard it is and how far it seems.

Titan, this is the most inspiring/powerful message I have ever seen on KZbin. There is so much I want to say but I have a hard time putting thoughts into words. Your message hits home because of so many parallels in our lives when compared. However, I've only achieved a fraction of what you have. I don't own my own machine shop but I have my own desk now :) I'm a 2 time ex-con; along with the Lord machining has changed your life; your rise, fall, and everything that goes with it; your pondering of there is more to life than just making parts/money; your desire to change people lives; believes teaching people/convicts a trade will grant them the stability they desire; and believes that education is a solution. I'm just amazed, rarely have I ever heard anyone speak like I think. I love the Lord with all my being but I've fallen away. I've been gifted with these talents and I've fallen short. I'm not worthy crosses my mind everyday. Right now I'm on the path to returning to the top. I'm currently working on a prototype for on an idea, which is a platform/product/service/job that evolved into a goal to give people financial independence/independence if they are willing to put in the work. However, I'm struggling because of the learning curve and money(mainly money at this point). I've been praying off and on just looking for a glimmer of hope. "Ask and you shall receive." Titan, you are that glimmer of hope. If I can make this idea happen, I will hopefully shake your hand one day. I've clicked subscribe and I will make sure ad block is disabled. Thank you man, your message is what I needed.

Titan, I've watched a fair amount of your videos and have come to the conclusion, you have a good heart. If you didn't, situations like this wouldn't bother you at all. For the time being, focus on all the good you have done in the past. All the birthday and Christmas presents you have provided the means for, for your people to provide for the people they love. All the Thanksgiving dinners and vacations your efforts have allowed you to make possible for your people. All the mortgage and rent payments, and just all the joy in general. You have an amazing facility and knack for this trade, and now you have an open door to re-invent yourself. The machines are there, the building is there, and you have an army of people that would jump through hoops to get you back up and running. Learn from the past, evolve and come back stronger than ever. Kick some ass my friend. Good luck.

Mad respect bro. Ive been machining only a few years but in that time we've gone from a small shop owner, who was every bit as devoted to his employees as yourself, to having been bought and sold twice. The problem is the investors only care about making a quick buck by cutting benefits, bonuses, overtime and of course layoffs. What suffers the most is the quality of the products and late deliveries, which push customers to look elsewhere. Investors are destroying the industry. I pray there is a positive change soon. Thanks for bringing recognition to this industry, makes me proud of what I do.

You sir have a powerful message. I look forward to watching more. The trades have been left behind, with everyone trying to be a manager or money shuffler. People tend to forget the satisfaction of making something with their own 2 hands.
@BoB-Dobbs_leaning-left
@BoB-Dobbs_leaning-left 5 жыл бұрын
The trades have been left behind by the very CNC machines he relied on for his business model. I doubt if he felt that bad about the "Trades" that lost their jobs as an effect of advances in production tech, the tech he bought into. That tech will continue to advance, if you don't stay on top you fail,. It's a never-ending spiral. We need to think about our entire global systems, seriously.
@stephenwgreen78
@stephenwgreen78 5 жыл бұрын
@@BoB-Dobbs_leaning-left I understand why it looks that way, but running a cnc lathe/mill is a skilled trade. It's more controlled/automated than a bridgeport, but it's not just a pull-a-lever-till-you-die job. It also comes with living wage pay. Much like drill press / mill / circular saw made their older counterparts obsolete for manufacturing (and now considered more of an art). That's the price of technological progress, not an attack on the tradesmen. It's also why an old IT guy who programmed on punch cards & also continued learning gets paid a crap-ton more than a fresh grad that can install windows. There's a fair bit of skill lost for the next generation with advancement (the underlying knowledge about how the internals work), but anyone in a trade wants to remain viable they always have to learn. Lastly, I wish you nothing but the best & ask that if you are a machinist/tradesman displaced by technology please learn the new tech so the information you have can be passed to the next generation and not become lost.
@BoB-Dobbs_leaning-left
@BoB-Dobbs_leaning-left 5 жыл бұрын
@@stephenwgreen78 I am, actually, retired but I do see your point. My point was that, eventually, with a growing global population and automated machines doing the work. There will come a point where we will have to address the fact that, unless we reassess the "Working for a living" ethic, there will not be enough people with the money to buy the goods produced. We are beginning to see this already, that's why I say we have to seriously look at our entire global/financial system.
@stephenwgreen78
@stephenwgreen78 5 жыл бұрын
@@BoB-Dobbs_leaning-left that's true. At some point in the future the possibility of automation taking care of our basic needs would require a rethink of the entire system. I'm an old star trek nerd & would like to believe in a world that's just all people working to advance the species. I'm also a bit jaded & believe there would need to be an awakening among the working class, leading to a global revolution against those profiting from unnecessary (but less costly than automation) low wage jobs. Those in power almost never willingly give up that power.
@Patrick_Cashman
@Patrick_Cashman 5 жыл бұрын
"Free the human hands, free the human mind." - Tanaka The points about losing jobs to automation are valid. But look at it another way. Very few of us would like to return to the days when 70% of the population worked in the fields, or mines, or other brutal manual labor jobs like that. As technology has advanced, people have found other ways of working to make a living. As it continues to progress, there will be yet more innovations, more ideas, more ways to work, that we have not yet even dreamed of. As more of the population begins to use mental power instead of physical power, there will be a (continued) exponential growth of ideas. Just as new ideas have kept more and more people busy using their mind instead of their back throughout history.

Thank you! 1981 I was in Auburn to open a new bank, nothing much was happening but it was beginning to take off, I came to the conclusion that anyone could run a bank, I wanted to make a difference in peoples lives, I did not know what that was going to look like, I was young, and needed to learn more, 20+ years later I found myself in Iraq, as a Chaplain, working with a combat brigade, seeing lives getting twisted up, they were soldiers because they wanted to make a difference, team leaders praying with their team before they went on a mission, not just for their safety but that they do the right thing, one of those team leaders was killed on a mission, but he let everybody know, whether he lived or died he was serving his Lord. I've watched your interviews with guys like NYC CNC, but never knew your story. I learned to love machining as a hobby, but have wanted to see Veterans get into CNC but have a hard time convincing them that this is an awesome field. I work full time with the most seriously injured, wounded and ill soldiers who are trying to find their way. Your story is powerful. I know it isn't your story, it is His story! Jesus makes the difference, life is not easy, and I agree that we need your vision to be spread across the country. I live in Wichita Kansas now, home to many giants in the aerospace manufacturing, lots of job shops, Koch industries headquarters, Mr. Koch is heavy into oil and products made from the refining of oil, it seems to be a central location for the incredible opportunity. Old men dream dreams the young have visions. We have been developing incredible technology training facilities, the University of Wichita is focusing a lot of effort, into the development of training highly skilled manufacturing techniques.

Titan! OH MY GOD! You are on my permanent prayer list! I've been involved with 3D printing for the past 6 years now. I've "stumbled" across some of your earlier videos while watching 3D printing additive manufacturing videos here on KZbin and I thought the huge CNC machines were so cool, and I thoroughly enjoyed the content. It's 7 o'clock in the morning right now and I was looking through some KZbin videos and I saw this vlog in the KZbin list about losing a 100 million dollar contract. That piqued my interest so I started watching. Brother... I am stunned! I'm 65 years old and I spent 45 years doing programming and then I was on disability for 5 years but I wasn't ready to be put out to pasture like an old mule. So, I ran for office as a Justice of the Peace here in Texas. I spent 4 years in office helping people with their legal issues. Especially, young people to try to keep them out of the legal system. Now I'm retired and still actively 3D printing and doing 3D modelling and design. I wish I have learned about CNC before now. May God bless you and your academy and your family.

Titan.... I can relate to a lot of what you talked about. In 2010 I shut down my business that I loved because of the economy. I should've shut it down 2 years before but didn't. In 2012 I enrolled into a machinist/cnc machinist program at a local tech center with help from the VA. I graduated with honors even though I felt like quitting for several reasons but pushed on to prove to my kids that you can do anything you set your mind to no matter what happens. Right now I am struggling again.... I have been low for a while battling my depression & ptsd and this week started to get even lower but after just watching this video I sit here with tears in my eye's feeling a little better. I can't say everything that's going on but this week has been very rough at work so far but I keep pushing forward even though I feel the need to do other wise. I am saving this video to my library so I can watch it whenever I need to. Thank you so much for doing this as it has opened my eye's a bit more and hopefully will keep them looking in the right direction. Thanks again!!!

Thanks Titan for what your doing. I'm north of the border and your even helping us. Where I am there is real lack of people who are even capable of learning the trade. I own a small CNC shop and struggle to find employees. Even guys straight out of collage are already hired.

haha! Nice ending! I like what you had to say about teaching. I learn in ways that don't seem to mix well with traditional school but I still think that a lot of the subjects could be taught in a different way and be a lot more effective. I laughed when you were talking about "true position". I can totally relate to that, GD&T was the bane of my existence in machining school, even more than the trig. I still don't have much knowledge because I haven't had to use it yet and I was in the first class through when they were completely redesigning their curriculum so they didn't really know HOW to teach it. The classes that are going through now are learning so much more though. Also, I feel ashamed to admit it but I haven't spent more than about 15 minutes watching your tutorials. I'm trying to get a Mori-Seiki AL-2 running that's been converted to Mach 3 in my spare time as well as trying to diagnose a Mori SL-2 ...and getting a manual lathe up & running so I figured I'd focus on honing my programming skills as soon as I get a machine ready that I can play with. Since I got into this trade, all I can think about is machining. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, all I do when I'm not working is work on becoming a better machinist & working towards self employment. I totally agree with you on how we get the jobs back & become the great industrial nation we once were. We gotta do it better and cheaper than the other guy, period, end of story. Oh, just wanted to say that it's funny how God comes through with the exact amount of money you need. I know that's happened to me more than a couple of times.

I thank you for this, for taking the time to tell your story. Right before Christmas I got laid off from AT&T after 19 years. I am 70. I am building a Blacksmith / Fab shop and I need to build myself a plasma cutter and learn all these CNC skills because because I have 2 daughters that need a future. I believe that many, many of our problems are due to sending the good work to China. You are right, we don't put much effort into training for the trades and that has to change. Keep it up, we need you

Dear Titan When I watched this recording, I was overturned that in my company the same start of the downturn of customers overnight in 2008 from 10 employees I was left alone with a huge loan for new sheet metal processing machines, and it was also thought about closing the company suddenly a new order came in and the old customers started coming back. During this time we also reorganized and began to connect ventilation and filtration to CNC oil mist filtration machines and thus become the best supplier in the country with a pipe system that is 100% tight. Congratulations on the courage of your head up and if you come to Europe, we also have companies in Slovenia that are very successful in CNC machining on a global scale. That's why I invite you to take a look or just a cold beer.

Bro i watch your videos as they appear in my recommendations, i decided to watch this one. I tried in 2007 to learn cnc at a place i worked and the top machinist took me to a corner of the shop where there was stacks of boxes with cnc programming books and said this is where i started and i was overwhelmed and put off as i was just a welder and just operated the cnc machine occasionally and was eventually let go. So all these years later ive found somewhere I can learn cnc and your story is inspiring me to take these lessons. Thank tou TITAN for all you've done, I am a firm believer in free education and information and that is what I appreciate most.

Hey Titan, i am literally going thrue your whole Channel... every Day, every single video.. Im am an apprentice at a machine shop, and we are very busy most of the time, and Im only 21 so i can’t really relate to your story, But i most definetely get how it must have been. But back to us being busy... Im having a hard time keeping up knowledge wise, Because of everyone not really having the time to get me properly through the educational stuff... So i just wanted you to know, that the difference you Want make, is being made. Without your content i would not have been able to keep this Education up, you have teached me SO MUCH, and i wish that i could Thank you in person, But that is unfortunately most likely to never happen... So again, a Big Thanks from me, here in little Denmark, and please do keep up your good work. You are making the difference!

I always watched your videos and thought you had a bit of too much ego, but now that I've seen this video.. oh boy! Never been so wrong about something! God blessed you so much, it's impressive! (Not to mention all your work). You sir have just made me realize that the company I work at (despite being a multinational giant from Sweden with 55k+ workers) is really not the best place for me! Over the past 3 years I have learned a lot in there but over the time I've gotten so overburdened that I haven't learned anything cool over the past year or so; I've just been working my hands to the bones so they can make a profit and then there's no dream to it! No motivation other than the money. This can't be right... I gotta try something else, I know a bit of CAD design on autoCAD, Creo, Pro-E, Solidworks and inventor; I think I can give it a try by myself! Thanks for allowing the Lord to do so much in your life, you are a blessed man. Edit:minor misspelling.

At first i thought this was click bait, but it turns out to be one of the most inspirational heart felt videos i have seen in a long time. the shop i was working for in 08 went from 20 people in manufacturing to 2 and even at that i was only working 3 days a week. our military contracts dried up and we ended up branching the shop into the job shop market. we did well for about a year then the job shop work started becoming harder to come by and i was back to working three days a week, i ended up leaving that shop for a few months and coming back. I had brought in a guy i went to school with to replace me and after i came back he moved on to working for one of my tool suppliers. my current boss went in asking if he knew any lathe programmers and he referred him to me. i worked for 2 years as a contract programmer while doing my full time job and finishing my associates degree in manufacturing. when i decided to leave my previous job, my contract job became my full time job. over the past 4 years we have gone from 6 machines and 10 employees to 20 machines and 50 employees. i am willing to teach anybody anything they are willing to learn, because i realize they are the future of the industry;because i was once that 20 year old kid who thought what we do in this trade is truly an awesome thing. thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the industry i love.

I like how you're an emphatic man, much like myself, I am not the emotionless robot that my machines are, I find that my "weird and odd" emphatic nature does wonders for boosting morale in the work place and getting things done all the while with smiles on faces and peps in steps. I'm going to open a very small (handful of guys) but state of the art shop in the near future and I've got a LOT of confidence due to certain sacrifices I've made (and funds acquired). - Mid thirties and always been single thus childless, totally career driven (no wife or kids etc. a.k.a major overhead cost negated). - Live inside my shop because I'm single (no home mortgage etc. a.k.a major overhead cost negated). I don't see it as a job, I see it as a lifestyle and I know it sounds extreme but I don't see myself as missing out anywhere. - My future staff are the family I never had, the personal sacrifices I'll make insures their positions, the way I treat them as family insures my shops success. - My future shop is my home, I cannot see the sense in initially hindering myself with a house mortgage when I'm just going to be at the shop all the time anyway. - My future 15yr old apprentices will be the children that I never got to have and be treated thusly and become ten fold what I'll ever be. Because the latest cnc machine is better than the latest super street car. Because the latest cad/cam is better than the latest xbox games collection. Because the latest tools are better than any tackle box filled with fishing lures. Having said the above, I don't actually intend to live in the shop for the rest of my life, just until I feel that the "hard yards" have been done.

Damn Titan man! that's one helluva crazy amazing story bro! I started watching initially just out of my curiosity because of the title, but then I realized your telling of your story had grabbed me and my fascination grew. We've been to similar places if not situations so it was not hard for me to find a profound interest in your story. I don't have the abilities to operate a CNC machine even tho they fascinate me and I'd love to learn it, but I am no machinist even tho I've always been a fairly talented mechanic. So thank you for sharing your story and experience and for carrying your torch of success and knowledge to us all! God bless you man, and thank you.

Dude I have watched a few of your videos now, and they are very inspirational, I am going through growing pains, just started my shop, got my CNC plasma, my basic tooling equipment / welding equipment, and I am growing myself to be a full-fledged machine / fabrication facility. I'm battling in my mind why I should continue to rent my space, rather than buy, but I truly believe that your message was set up there for me to realize that it's okay to not own everything right off the bat, and to grow, and let you your business grow with you rather than you grow too fast for your business. Thank you for everything

@@lukeblaikie507 I think you will find that is the problem with your thinking. You don't want a contract that's bigger than you are. It is *always* *advisable* to *bring in help* , ie: work with the 'competition', ie: see an industry as an association of professionals who earn real results from doing real work. A big job needs all your time? Not the way I see it: The bigger it is, the slower it moves, and the more each mistake costs.

@@weareallbeingwatched4602 Is this common practice? Say boeing wanted 1k parts a month. Your shop was only capable of 500 a month. You call up old bob down the street and cut profits and work 50/50. Is that a thing machine shops do? or do they just turn down a contract that would be good if they only had the labor force.
@zedex1226

@@lsswapeverything2518 Usually it's easier to sub out the whole order, inspect them when you receive them and send them on. A "job shop" receives a lot of this kind of work. Another common example is the customer is a manufacturer that makes their own parts for a finished part. THEY get a flood of orders so they sub out X many of such and such components while the rest of their crew focuses of the remainder. That's how job shops get a rep for being feast-or-famine and hectic. They can't predict the work load as easily because it's dependent on many more outside factors. There are clever ways to make it work out good though.
