Spent 4 years in prison after a failed home invasion. I was a degenerate alcoholic, lost wandering aimlessly in life. After leaving prison I was in a halfway house and picked up the newspaper and on the front page was a small article about federal funding for a CNC course offered to anyone but mostly parolees. I made it my mission to get into that class and I did with state grants. I graduated top of my class and was hand picked by a shop to start training as a CNC production machinist. That was 5 years ago starting at 11$/hr, I am now close to 20 working as 2nd shift supervisor and teaching first shift at the same school I graduated from 5 years ago. I just hope you know how much this channel and your testimony has been a HUGE inspiration for me over the last 5 years.

Hello there. I'm new to working in the CNC production environment. It's such a wonderful industry. I'm a retired watchmaker, but finances forced me to return to the workforce. I'm learning that the industry is full of really great people, and if you're a motivated, self-determined person, you can really do well in this industry. Any advice for a middle-aged, autistic, and fairly high iq worker? I'm used to running desktop scale machines with 4" plunge depths, and now I'm running machines with automatic tool changes, the size of a car! It's wonderful but I'm scared!

I lost someone very close and it hit me hard. I don't know if I have any advice except don't give up. Tell whomever you can how you feel when you feel down but the next day you do whatever it takes to put one foot in front of the other. I can say It does get better. Use this opportunity to rebuild yourself into something better and new. It will take all you have but it will be worth it. Good luck.

They used to have those opportunities. For generations prisons would offer all sorts of training and job opportunities. But they started taking almost all of it away because the trades use tools and people would use those tools as weapons or use the shop to make weapons. It's unfortunate because a lot of guys wanted the training and more than that they wanted to pass the time being useful. They still have jobs and some even pay but real training for serious trades has unfortunately been removed for the most part. When I was in the joint I was one of the head cooks and made 22 cents an hour. One of the best jobs in the prison.

@@Mr.Potato420 ya exactly. Now back then they had all sorts of opportunities. The conditions were much harsher but so was all life back then I suppose. Wood shop, metal shop, machine worker (license plate makers) along with outside work crews such as woodland fire fighter and forestry services were very common in state pens around the country. They still have fire camp to this day. I got to do some time at a fire camp and during the winter/off season we would do jobs the rangers needed done such as cutting down dead and dying trees, pulling weeds, and such. Then during the fire season/summer we would fight woodland fires. That's the best example of a trade you can still learn in the joint. Especially since the "hotshots" are a federal crew you can get hired with them when you get out (since federal government allows the hiring of felons). I did it for a small time but then went back to the joint :/

I’m going to be honest, I have nothing to do with machining or engineering, I wish I did but life took me other places. I wound up here because I was looking on google for how to use citric acid on stainless steel for a project. But I somehow got here and listened to this whole testimony without pause. This is so awesome… I spent about 10 years in an active drug addiction, in and out of jails and institutions. I lost everything. I finally came to Mobile Alabama, and went to rehab. While I was in the rehab, I saw a job add on Craigslist at a local Machine Shop that needed help. I interviewed and got the job as an operator. They trained me, got me up to speed. It’s been 2 1/2 years now…. I am doing my own set ups. Some of my own programming. Editing G Code, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.. I’ve learned so much, and I am so IN LOVE with the trade. I have had over $10 dollars worth of raises in 2 years. I am so thankful, and so blessed. Thank you for your story Titan. I hope someone sees my comment…. And sees my story. Machining definitely is connected to love and creation. He made us in His image including the creating part. Mr. Gilroy, I welled up plenty on this one. I heard you review a small hobbyist machine this year which I just purchased to replace my old mill. You said its good for that 60 yr old that works a day job and supports a family. Well, I bought my first cnc 4 years ago and now I'm buying a new one to keep up with my new client. They are a company that produces eyewear since 1918 and are the last in-house producers of eyewear in the US. They provided frames for military and presidents and they are giving me the honor to take on some tool making chores for them. I am saved and have very similar experiences with your story. Since 2003 the Lord our Father...your dad and my dad, has provided and opened doors like "I know that I know That I know". I love telling people the deeper testimony, but to talk with you some day would be an honor. If it's when we are out of here, so be it. But you have been an incredible inspiration brother. Thank you. I have to say I always love to hear stories as I get to see God in action. I will always give a homeless person a dollar yet I always ask them for their story. I have to admit that typically I don't light Titan's speaking style. The way of his tone, the emphasis he tries to make. I love machining. I came from a family that's all machining, really old tech manual machine. I used to hate working on those machine when I was young because that hard work.. At 14, 15. I'd rather have time to play like any other kids. I ended up with a degree in electronic engineering after years of moving to the US. When I saw those CNCs, it just click. I love them. Wanted to learn them. Because my bread and butter for the family is my electronic job, I'd time and time again given up offers to jump over to machining. A place where I will need to work from the ground up again. Where I would not be able to make the California mortgage payment and put food on the table. But I love those machines. I love to make things. Until a couple years ago, I finally was able to buy my own cnc, a HAAS mini. I had to read and watch KZbin to learn my way through. From CAD to CAM to macine setup and all those offsets.. That's when I found Titan's channel. I respect the guy of his experience and success, but more importantly his spirit to help. His endeavor to help people in more than just machining, but life. I admire his ability and success. I may never be able to get anywhere near the level of perfection he expect or get anywhere near those expensive machine to learn, I will continue learning and watching. Thankyou all those who spent time to share and teach, especially those who did it not for money.

Subscribed. Been a tool and die maker/manual machinist all my life. Long story short ended up down in the dumps. I gave a few tools to a step son, my tool box to a welder friend. I was giving up. Thinking some really dark shit. Had to leave a very high paying job in Nunavut because of injuries I hadnt given time to heal. I took a few months off. Got very depressed and lost all concfidence. Anyways I found an advert for alocal machine shop and thought why not. Sent a resume in. They put me on a CNC lathe and I loved it. Tried to come to work with a good attitude every day. I'm on a CNC boring mill now and thriving. I have tears in my eyes writing this but they have no idea they actually saved my life. Thanks for your story

I wish i saw this 4 years ago. I used to work in engineering 2009 to 2012 but it was never my passion, i turned 30 this month and just started teaching myself to tig weld off youtube and came across your machining videos and somehow developed an immense passion for machining just by seeing the possibilities🤔 i never saw a future for myself as a machinist in the shop i worked at. The staff where never pushed or taught anything more than they needed in order to meet targets, and we ran the most basic setup, (Coal cutter teeth) We where just organic robots running inorganic machines making minimum wage. I wish i had a father, mentor or boss like you growing up.

Thats my dream to become a profesional cnc machinist. To become a programmer. Becouse i was amaze in the world of CNC MACHINING. Soon i achieve my dreams. And explore more in the field of cnc machinist. To be honest i have no proper educational attainment in the field of machinist. More on experiences. Sometimes im suffering of bullying and insults.
