My cat did spawn in. He was at my workplace and ended up getting hurt, so I adopted him and took care of him. It was an easy adjustment just because we were friends for a few years before I ended up taking him in. He's perfectly fine now, and loves living in a house. With how expensive vet bills are, it's a whole lot more economical when they spawn in, more money available for treats or medication, if needed.

But most quirks more or less come from quirks that parents have.
