I thought queen f3 was the refutation, but it’s actually knight takes the rook on b4 with check. Where ever the king moves next, the queen always moves to C2 with check to pick up the remaining rook behind the pawn. Queen c2 is the only follow up that wins for black.

Wow. I think even I may have been able to win in that pause the video. I thought the king would hide from the rook on the 8th behind the pawn. On a side note, I've been watching your videos forever but haven't played an actual game in a very long time.(decades) I think I better bare down and memorize these damn openings. I've been putting it off, figuring I'd get them through osmosis or something. Anyhow, in order to do this I need to organize a bunch of them and go from there. Then it occurred to me that I wonder if a study guide would be a good future video for you?? Say, for example, you make a couple moves, pause the video, then say why its this way. Then move on to another opening, rinse and repeat? Just a suggestion that I think could have value. If anyone knows of someone with a chess channel who can help me memorize 20 openings in half an hour which I can play over and over...
@micharespondek1172
@micharespondek1172 Жыл бұрын
You aren't gonna memorize 20 openings in half an hour... If you're a beginner just learn basic opening principles and play games because nobody on your level actually knows any real opening theory. You can watch a video about maybe one common opening like the Spanish to better understand how you should think in the opening, but don't memorize lines if you don't understand the opening.
@onenewworldmonkey
@onenewworldmonkey Жыл бұрын
@@micharespondek1172 Thanks, I thought knowing the main lines of 20 would even make watching others more enjoyable. I doubt I ever play another game, to be honest. I learned when I was 6 or 7 and played all the time. In highschool I won almost every tournament. I was the best in my school, then in the surrounding ones Then I couldnt find anyone to play and stopped. That was 40 some years ago and haven't played since. I got interested again when deep blue beat the best in the world, which saddened everyone. Now I just watch these channels and wonder how much it changed. Even the names of the squares are different.

thanks. I'll relearn a few. I've always remembered a psychologist while in college in the 80s. Every day he taught his children at the age of 5 one 4 line stanza of Shakespeare; the same one every day for exactly one year. He never mentioned it again until they were 18 when he asked if they remembered it. They did not. Then he asked if they could pick it out of multiple choice. They could not. After all the effort he found that they could relearn that stanza much faster than any other. So our memories can be in there deeply, but still in there. I've been watching chess on youtube several times a day for over a year. Yet have not played a single game. The reason is I've been on a long journey to understand how people think. For the past 5 years I devoted the same time to mma. For the same reason. I now have an opinion that is very unique. My opinion is that it all comes from being predators. The moment when a hungry lioness sees a herd of gazelles something happens to her. We don't have a word for it. She considers the wind, topography, chooses the weakest, develops a strategy, etc. This "thing" is what humans have ran with and evolved like a giraffe did with a long neck. So much so that everything you own either solves problems or is ammunition to solve problems. I write this because it is on my mind. Thanks again for your suggestion.
