In ROTTMNT, it’s actually a protective shell he built to cover his real shell, which is too weak because he’s a soft-shell turtle. Leo, Raph, and Mikey are a red-eared slider, snapping turtle, and box turtle.

Donatello’s near death in the IDW comics left me with an emotional scar that I doubt will ever fully heal lol. A few years ago at a local comic convention I got the opportunity to listen to Kevin Eastman talk about issue 44 and he said that they work on the comics several issues in advance so when one is published, they’re already way passed it and working on new things. He said that the Thursday after it was released he woke up to the internet losing it’s minds over them killing Donatello and he was like, We did what?? 🤣 But that was because he and Tom Waltz had already wrote him being ok. LOL

For me the most tragic and emotional death of Donatello was this one (IDW) due to his shell being smashed in and the turtles and their allies all morning his supposed death. I’m sure that “Blood in snow” (The Last ronin: #4) will have an even more brutal and devastating death for Donnie as well as Splinter, can’t wait to see how Mikey reacts to those two’s deaths when he finally arrives in Japan and how he will fully become the Last ronin.

​@@sarahshivak2593, two reasons why they most likely kept Donnie for last in the Last ronin comic series could be. 1) When Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird were coming up with the concept for the series over 30 years ago they probably had it all planned out in advanced for which turtle would die first and how. Most likely Kevin wanted to keep to the original plan and that’s most likely what they did. 2) As I stated above the people behind the comic are most likely keeping to the original plan and also it would make sense to keep Donnie as the last to fall. If you think about it both Mikey and Donnie have a strong bond (quite possibly as strong in this incarnation) so after seeing his final brother die/fall it would be the final straw for Mikey to push him to become darker and more vengeful if he witnesses his brother’s death or sees his corpse. This could possibly be the reason why and would be really impactful on the story. So this is most likely why Donnie is the last to die.

In all techincallity he was immortal while in Metal Heads Body which if I recall happens in different series also I just don't remember what itteration it occurred (I was smaller cut me some slack)In that version Metal Head was turtle sized and Silver he also had hidden weapons built all throughout his body. I think he was Baxter's creation in that iteration and Donnie had reprogrammed him or something like that but I honestly can't recall because it was so damn long ago.. All I can remember was due to a life threatening injury he was stuck using Krang tech and Metal head's body. but that's all I can recall..sorry.

Definitely, He’s been close to death and turned into a cyborg (Image/Urban legends), He’d been double mutated (2003), he’d got his shell cracked and his consciousness downloaded into the Metalhead robot (IDW), he had been mind controlled, possessed/double mutated, molecularly scattered, chocked and turned into a cyborg (2012) and whatever death waits for him (The Last ronin). I absolutely agree, Donnie has the worst luck out of the turtles mainly his 2012 version.

There have been occasions though that he’s not been so lucky like, 2012 when he had been infected by experimental mutagen which gave him ‘shell acne’, brutally beaten and got impaled. So overall even though he’s luckier than Donnie he still gets it here and there, lucky though that he’s The Last ronin.

Apparently for behind the scenes for the Last ronin mini series Kevin Eastman always wanted Mikey to be the surviving turtle due to the reason you’ve just said and because he’s the youngest. This is what I’ve seen when I bought the Director’s cut for #1.

Not a fan of this art style. IDW seems to be heavily inspired by Nikelodeon TMNT 2012. And i sort of liked that series, but the Turtles look so weird and slim. I prefer the original Mirage art style.

Leo is lean as he’s the most all-round skilled fighter, Raph is stockier as the brawler, Mikey is a little pudgier and Donnie is the thinnest since he uses his intellect more than his physique in combat

At this point in the comics Donnie wasn't on best terms with Splinter or the Turtles, because Donnie was worried about Krang terraforming Earth while Splinter was too caught up in getting vengeance on Shredder, and pushing the brothers to train. So he kinda goes out on his own during this arc. This is why Donnie compromises and seeks out help from the Foot.

Comic books often kill off characters only to bring them back later. Because of this I rarely feel anything when a character does die. In the back of my mind I'm thinking, "They're gonna bring him back.". Donatello's death in the IDW comics is one of the few exceptions. Even though I knew they were gonna bring him back his death still got to me. It was brilliant to have Bebop and Rocksteady kill him. This shows they are dangerous foes despite their stupidity. Never in a million years did I imagine them killing one of the turtles. The emotional drama the others are dealing with over Donatello's death was surprisingly done well.

Man i hate what the producers of almost every series do to Donnie. In the Movie reboot, the batman cartoon, the 2012 series, he is thin, has glasses, a nerd geek, the weakest turtle, stupid voice and a simp, always getting his ass kicked. I get it he is a techno geek, BUT the 2003 series for example did it good! Looking normal, kicking ass, not being inferior to the rest of the team. I hate it how Raph and Leo always get the main roles and Donnie and Mikey always are the Side Turtles. Make Donnie great again!

I’ve been collecting the 13 hardcover collected editions for some time now, and have been looking for ANY material on KZbin that looks into this series, it’s lore, or anything related to behind the scenes material for this series, and believe it or not, there ISNT much material on this series on KZbin. To be honest, I would LOVE to find something along the lines of a breakdown for each of the 13 volumes of the IDW collected editions. Seeing as how you’re such an avid and awesome Turtles fan, I can only imagine you’re probably the most qualified to ask of this. Lastly, (I know this is a bit long, I apologize) as I was getting ready to get into the IDW series, I had a VERY hard time differentiating the difference between the MULTITUDE of TMNT comic lines that have come out over the years. Is there ANY WAY you could do a video breaking down the different series that have come out over the years, and what content is included with which series? I know there were the mirage comics, image did a tmnt run, idw… shoot, if you go on ebay and search tmnt IDW comics, you’ll see just how confusing it can get for someone trying to collect ONE specific set compared to another. I would REALLY appreciate ANY help you could give or any light you could shed on these matters. AGAIN, I LOVE what you’re doing here. The content is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I think this was when I stopped reading the comics regularly and keep forgetting what I left off, this had definitely scarred me even when Donnie bounced back. I think this is my favorite version of Donnie, I don't know why, how, but something about him is just perfectly different. He's a total badass when he wants to be too

I did like them in out of the shadows, yes they're not competent enough to take out one of the turtles, but gave'em a real run for their money! They have the best scenes in the movie!

What I remember as a kid is when mike went blind for awhile in the Archie TMNT adventrues series. it was in issues 53-61. And of course when the the mighty mutamales team got massacred in TMNT adventures issue 54 (which included favorites like mondo gecko, man ray and leatherhead) and that was a kids series

@@pardonmygiggles7101 technically, every TMNT iteration has had drama, 2012 and 2003 had issues related to drama between the family and even outside friends. Besides, they are still continuing the plot related to mutant town, Peace with Footclan,the moves of Baxter and now the RatKing.

It's a lot easier to write something that's just unnecessarily dark it's far more difficult to write something that is dark uplifting inspirational and down to earth because then you actually have to respect your characters enough to make them seem somewhat human
