LOSS OF MOBILITY There's nothing that is more insidious or has a bigger impact on how we age than "Loss of Mobility." Now, I know, this isn't something that most of us think about in our plans to defeat the effects of aging.
But we should!
In today's video, we'll be examining mobility, what it is, what causes it to go into decline, and what you can do about it. We'll be talking about "mobility" vs. "flexibility," and how there's several parameters that fall under the umbrella of mobility. We'll also go over a series of exercises that you can do to increase your mobility.

Best video that you've made! This is key as you age..your right to say loss of mobility happens and you don't know it. I have trouble opening jars, containers with my hands. I remember when younger I would open jars and such for older people..never thought I would be here

Osteoarthritis is one of the biggest contributing factors to loss of mobility in the elderly. Scientists don't really know what causes osteoarthritis, but inflammation is a factor. Keeping systemic inflammation low by maintaining metabolic health and gut health will help prevent osteoarthritis. Speaking of gut health, I'd love to see a video on research, if any, that has been done about the gut and aging.

What do you know? I'm planning on doing a video on gut health next month, so keep an eye out for it.

@@LanceHitchings I know very little about gut health, and nothing about the gut and aging. Gut health seems to be one of the main levers for maintaining overall health, along with metabolic health, sleep, exercise and psychosocial well-being. There are some unconventional and unproven strategies for promoting gut health, like getting outdoors, getting dirty from time to time, having pets, eating seasonal foods, avoiding antibiotics and anti-microbial products, eating fermented foods, the list goes on. Not much is known about gut health, which makes it a fascinating subject.

This is one of your best, thanks! Makes me wish I had made this a priority when I was 30.

Insightful. When over 50 you begin to realize this is important. Also check out Wim Hof's breath-assisted stretching where you expand the blood vessels in the constricted area by inhaling oxygenated blood into it and holding your breath "in it", then while relaxing you breathe out through it (letting blood flow through). Tai chi can also work but it is so specialized and requires so good teachers and long time that 99% of tai chi students will never "get it."

Yeah, I follow Wim Hof. Great guy, even if he is just a young whippersnapper. 😄

That cross leg stand up test is exactly what I thought of. It’s great. I elevated my computer to a standing height. Keep moving

Good info as always. I recall Aubrey De Grey identifying protein cross linking as one of the major aging factors. Obviously a major contributor to the loss of soft tissue flexibility. I am not aware of any specific treatments to delay this process, is their evidence for collagen and Hyaluronic acid? What dosing? I do vaguely recall some other intervention to inhibit protein cross linking and will try to find and post here.

That exercise you showed is not really so much a mobility test as a test of strength and also healthy BMI. Gonna be way easier if you are skinny. To test mobility take a yoga class. Humbling.

Jade jade jade...most 80year olds i know are super active , and mobile...but the 93 year olds loose it ..i don't want to have limited mobility at 93... Especially not in the year 2021 and up. So how do we fix it. .will there be a cell degrade stopper injection by 2030? I'm pretty sure...

At 72, that's still 20 years away. Most aging scientists predict that we'll reach longevity escape velocity with 10 to 20 years.
