Lots of folk seem confused about this. The only people teleported off the plane, are the people Locke intended to bring back to the island when he pushed the donkey wheel. He didn't know Frank, and he didn't intend to bring Ben back. And right before he descended into the well, Jin made Locke promise that he wouldn't bring Sun back to the island. Also, corpses can't travel through time, which is why John's body isn't teleported. It's never properly explained, but it's the only reason that makes sense why Sun would be excluded.

Jin was with Sun on 815 but not on 316 therefore her specific circumstances of the original flight could not be replicated and she stayed in 2008

Thank you! Everything makes so much sense now! I never really could figure out why Sun didn't go with them but everything is clear now. Eloise told them that they had to recreate the original crash as best as they could in order to go back and if they didn't there could be huge problems. All the original people went to 1977 besides Sun, most likely because she wasn't with Jin like she originally was. They really did the best they could too, not only do they bring Locke but he's also a proxy for Christian, you have someone restrained and being exported like Kate was but this time it's Sayid, Hurley brings the guitar that obviously represents Charlie. And that's why Ben and the other new passengers didn't go back to 1977. Because they weren't on the original plane.

ugh can't believe i've caught up with all your lost reactions! lost is my all time favourite show, and i adore the last three seasons, which all blend more together to me than the first three. really looking forward to more lost content from blind wave, esp the future podcast! also, in the behind the scenes footage from the lost dvds, the actor who plays richard alpert is in make up and they actually put white eyeliner on him to soften his gaze! so technically he does wear eyeliner, but that dark frame is all natural lol

I think Sun and Ben didn't go back in time because Locke didn't want them to go back. Everyone else Locke wanted to reunite, but Sun he wanted to stay behind per Jin's request, and Locke never considered bringing Lapidus or Ben back. I feel like it isn't a coincidence.

This is basically my theory as well. Locke "touched" the ones who went back, even though not physically. And as the "leader" of the island at the time, it was his touch that gave them a connection to the island that allowed the island to influence where they ended up.

@@eschatological Yeah, I think Locke is way more responsible for the endgame of the show than people realize. SPOILERS.......... he is what lies in the shadow of the statue, in my opinion, "he who will save us all." My favorite theory about this is we know that the island rewards you if you do something for it in return, like Locke tells Charlie in season 1. We also know from Miles that a dead body on Lost continues to emit thoughts, feelings, and desires. To me it's completely likely that reuniting the people Locke wanted reunited was Locke's reward for giving his life over for the island/making Jack believe, which is why his body needed to be on the plane. The only way for them to get back together was for Locke to get his final wish, and they needed his body coming to the island to do it. Meanwhile, MIB is also making plans for that same body.

I think Locke is incredibly responsible for a lot of what happened in the show, because SPOILERS Locke conned himself! If he hadn't lied and told Richard that Jacob sent him, they would have killed him. Instead, he was able to tell Richard that Richard declared him the leader among other things. A lot of the plot derives from Locke being his own mark.

People used to say that its really convenient that exact these people came back, and others didn't... However, rather than the exact people who had parts to play came back, the correct way to seer this is: the present we have seen in the previous Seasons developed the way It did, because, 30 years back, ONLY these came back. And those who came back were a random result or a Jacob choice? That I don't know haha

I think that the people who came back in time are the people that had to in order to accomplish something that had to happen in order for them to come back in time. (I won't go into specifics because SPOILERS.) Also, the Island knew exactly WHEN to bring them back -- just in time to pretend to have been on the sub. Time travel is, in fact, a bitch.

It's because when John activated the donkey wheel, he promised Jin he wouldn't bring Sun back. The only people transported through time are the people John Locke intended to bring back to the island. He didn't know Frank, he didn't intend to bring Ben back, and Sun he promised not to bring back. The island is somehow able to recognize Locke's intentions.

Three things on this show are almost guaranteed every episode: Locke and Jack will be at odds , Sawyer will drop a nickname, and Benjamin Linus will get beat up.

The reason only few of them got sent to 77 was because they didnt replicate the crash as instructed by Heloise. They needed everyone in order to make it as smoothly as possible but because most of the crew wasnt there, it just jumped randomly to 77 while the rest kept crashing. It's all going back to Heloise ending one episode with "god help us all" when Jack asks what would happen if they can't bring everyone.

I stopped watching these a long time ago due to this. My friend told me about this one and I just had to come and see for myself and WTF. They only show 6 minutes at 57 seconds of the episode. No wonder the editing is absolutely horrendous. Theres over 3 full minutes for them to use for their reaction. I've never seen a channel that edited reactions so poorly.

Ben's intention to leave the Hydra island in order to reunite with Richard Alpert and the rest of the Others seemed logical to me. Which is why I found Sun's reaction to him rather over-the-top. One, she didn't have to join him. And if she had really wanted to leave Hydra island for the main one, she could have made the trip on her own. Instead, she insisted upon joining Ben, before whacking him over the head with a paddle. Many "LOST" fans had cheered. I simply rolled my eyes at the ridiculousness of it all and the confirmation of her vindictive nature. As for Frank . . . he seemed to have forgotten just how murderous Keamy and his fellow mercs were. I found some of Sawyer's decisions in this episode rather questionable. To be honest, I found his deception to stay with the Dharma Initiative questionable, as well. I'm not accusing the show of bad writing or anything like that. I just think he had made some bad choices. Kate's little moment of flirtation with Sawyer seemed like a return to an old habit of hers - using Sawyer to erase her romantic problems with Jack. Speaking of the latter, many had cheered at Sawyer's speech criticizing the latter's past leadership. Yeah, some of Jack's decisions had been bad. But not all of them. And I think three years as the "Sheriff of Dharma Land" had allowed Sawyer to develop a large-sized ego. Not only did I find his decision to join the Dharma Initiative a mistake, I don't think he should have given Jack, Hurley and Kate the opportunity to do the same. All he did was drag them into his own deception, just as he did Juliet, Miles and Daniel. I suspect that Sawyer's belief in his own leadership skills was nothing more than a reflection of his skills as a con artist. And with Sayid's capture, his massive deception was about to fall apart.
