We Had an Absolutely Beautiful day out rockhounding on the Yellowstone River. There was a small mishap early on involving a kayak and some camera gear, but everyone was okay and the we still had a great time. We found some lovely agates as usual. Be sure to check out Theo's and Kate's Channels below.

Directly under the bottom left of "Isn't that a pretty sandstone" (and yes, it was) at 8:56 looked like another piece of unakite. I watched Theo's and Kate's videos and was bummed that Theo lost his gear. But he bore the loss with the grace of a good sport and carried on. It was very nice of you guys to help him out. This was, other than that, a great outing with lots of wonderful finds. Thanks for taking us along!

Glad you had fun with your family this weekend Alex :) I'm holding out hope for someone calling Theo about his kayak and gear . You found some lovely pieces. I had a wee bit of a hard time tracking with the camera moving quickly. ( I have a bit of a problem focusing at times ) Take Care and see you next video :).
@AgateAngler
@AgateAngler 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Mary-Anne, I'm afraid that Theo probably won't be getting his gear back, but there is always hope. I'm beginning to think the camera movement issue is more related to the camera (Or lack thereof) rather than the speed of movement. I'll actually be investing in a little bit more of a real camera set-up soon that should improve the tracking issue. Right now, I shoot everything on my old iPhone.

The mark of a true rock addict - the inability to end a rock hunt. “And this’ll be my last agate...wait, what’s this?” 😂 “As I was heading to the car/kayak/etc to go home, I found THIS!” 😂 I’m constantly telling someone in my family “I’ll be right in. Almost done...” If rock love is a sickness, I don’t want a cure. ♥️

Man this brings back some good memories, I remember when I was riding a kayak and a huge log was approaching me, and there was a current pushing me fast towards it, and I slammed into it, flipping my kayak upside down, and i was underwater, got back on, but I lost both paddles, because that log made me drop my mini camera, and I lost all the footage of the trip and that camera is probably still at the bottom of that river. It’s waterproof but it sinks. Good times.

I’m a new subscriber and relatively new to rockhounding. I very much appreciate your commentary. Always up beat and I dig the enthusiasm when you find a good piece. I do find myself trying to see what you’re seeing, especially when you find a piece that has some banding in it and some other physical attribute. Since I don’t have a trained eye yet, I sometimes have a hard time locating what you’re seeing. As a suggestion, maybe you could freeze the shot for a few seconds and edit in some pointy arrows to show us what you are seeing, i.e. show an agate with arrows pointing to the subtle bands that you see. I know that would benefit me and help me train my eyes. Really appreciate what you do. Rock on! Haha!

I asked him if he had insurance on his camera, but he said it was so old it was out of date. He said he was getting a better camera, though. Glad all of you were ok.

Awesome Video!! Sorry about the kayak. I have a question: If you leave tumbled stones in its solution, let's say stage 4, without tumbling (because it auto stopped, and I wasn't home) *Would the aluminum oxide solution "stain" the rocks?* I did leave it for about 10 hrs, after it stopped, when I dumped the tumbler, all the rocks looked worse than stage 3. Just curious if I can redo and save them.

Hey Thomas, No worries about the Kayak. It was a bummer for Theo, but he'll survive. As far as your question goes, (And I am not a tumbling expert by any means) I would not expect any sort of staining or problem from the rocks sitting in the mixture. I would just tumble like normal and see how they turn out. I assume it will be just fine.

Love watching your finds. Does sandstone polish?

It does polish, just not as well as some of the harder rocks and minerals.

Iv watched few of these types of videos now and always wondered why no one takes the rocks to see what’s hidden just below
@AgateAngler
@AgateAngler 4 жыл бұрын
I think because there are just far too many rocks, so you may as well just look at the ones on top. I can be very overwhelming in person.

@@josephstanley200 Lol I brought a steel rake to a much smaller agate beach to do exactly that. It worked pretty well, but the rake was toast after 2 days!

Hi Jonathan, sorry you see the title as clickbait. Agates are in fact Gemstones as they are made of microcrystaline quartz (and quartz is a gemstone). Of course, "Incredible" would be all in the eye of the beholder. Take care.
