Bruce Campbell is telling the fans the truth. Ash is a nightmare to get the rights to as he's owned by 3 different companies (why Ash Vs. Evil Dead had to be careful about mentioning Army of Darkness to avoid legal action). The Joker is an easy choice as Mortal Kombat is also an AT&T/ Time Warner property so Warner Bros. would prefer to use characters they own. There's a better chance of Ash Ketchum being in MK than Ash from Evil Dead

1) No, not really. If you listen to Bruce's answer, he phrased it kinda vaguely, almost like he was still under an NDA. Couple that with the fact that copyright information for Army of Darkness was featured in an email sent to gaming websites (meaning they _did_ have the okay at one point), and it's obvious that we're not getting the full story here. 2) Again, no, not really. If it's so difficult for a major publisher like WB Games to get a hold of the rights to use Ash, then how the hell did Poker Night 2 and Dead by Daylight both get to use him despite being from much smaller studios?

The craziest thing about the Mortal Kombat Live Tour was the ending, where _Shang Tsung_ of all people talks about never using violence except in self defense and to be a positive influence to yourself and others. As for a Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat crossover (Krossover?), both sides have stated that they like the idea but Capcom isn't okay with including Fatalities. Partly because most of the Street Fighter are against killing (including _Akuma_ if you'll believe it), partly because the level of violence in MK is just so much more than SF's. And obviously Netherrealm doesn't want to cut corners.

Worse yet, sometimes the host providers of certain niche websites will suddenly have a stick up their asses and delete anything they suddenly decided don't want to allow being posted, and if there's no notice about it (and more often than not there isn't) and neither anyone in the community nor the original creators have any backups of their own, then yeah, things get lost. Something involving such a massively popular figure like Markiplier had no chance of getting lost, however. When things are in the eyes of enough people they generally don't ever get lost.

After what happened to MK9 and how most of the DLC characters in 11 are just guest characters, I think having them is just a huge liability. MKX will probably be the next one to go as that has what are now Disney properties in the game. If Mortal Kombat games from here on out have no legacy beyond a set number of years until they're gone forever then having John McClane or Snake Plissken show up in your game just isn't worth it, and unfortunately NR/WB have no intentions of fixing up legacy MK titles and releasing them onto Steam like other franchises have.
@Darxide233 жыл бұрын
@@cooljim1376 I didn't know 4 guests out of 12 DLC characters was "most." 5 if you count Joker, but since WB owns both DC and MK, I wouldn't count that. Besides, the licenses they get for guest characters have no expiration date and are forever. The thing with Freddy Kruger was unique since the rights holder was taken to court and lost legal rights to the character because they never technically owned him in the first place making the license WB/NRS had with them null. The original scripts had this fight but I have never been informed if it was ever filmed. What we do have are photos of Bridgette Wilson pitted against a monk on a beach. We know nothing else about it. That photo even appears on some International releases. The ONLY easter egg hidden in MK media I am aware of is the Kitana captured and Baraka being killed on the original Annihilation DVD. It's nothing special and I have no clue why they added a scene already from the movie there. Sonya also had a shower scene in the original MK movie scripts and they also explained where the warriors would sleep. As someone else mentioned there was a burial scene planned for Art Lean.

If PSASBR had more content and characters, I think it COULD HAVE caught on with the FGC and become a niche/special pick for tournaments. It reminds me a lot of how MKvsDCU, DLC and all, was unceremoniously canned due to the lack of sales and Midway’s closure/absorption by WB Interactive. Regarding it being a contender as a VIABLE Smash Clone…stranger things have happened…like Atlus’s “Catherine” becoming a super steadily growing competitive game that, until the remaster “Catherine Full Body” introduced Online Multiplayer, was exclusively Couch Co-Op outside of the Single Player focus of the story 🤷🏽♂️

The HD Collection is the one I am most sore about. After hearing about it and it’s cancellation years ago I was so bummed out. Even now with so many classic games getting HD remasters, remakes etc it makes it even more painful this never saw the light of day. I am guessing that it’s cancellation might have been because of the franchise being acquired by WB and they decided to cut the game instead of continuing to fund it.
@mekkimaru23653 жыл бұрын
As a HUGE MK fan, they could have simply put the HD remake to a vote via CrowdFunding. Sure WB could have put a small amount towards it and see if there was enough interest or not. I know the FGC community is quite small, but MK is still in the Top 3 most well know Fighting game brands. Add to the fact, that many longtime players consistently rate MK2 as their favorite with UMK3 not far behind, it just seems like quite a wasted opportunity. I know an argument can be made that they are "old games",and some may just see it as trying to "cash in", but looking at some of the work that has gone into the graphics and even updating a lot of the finishing moves (especially the animalities), but if it had a budget price, I do think a lot of MK fans wod buy it - even a lot of casuals who maybe knew of the history, but had never had the chance to actually play them. I bet a lot of the remade assets are still in a vault somewhere. Sure they can't have scrapped and binned the whole project

Mortal Kombat Conquest's lost media could include its Season 2. There are scripts of the first episodes somewhere I believe. There are different versions of what this Season 2 Episode 1 was about but here is the main one: SPOILER: at the end of season 1, it appeared that Kung Lao, Ciro and Taja were killed by Shao Kahn's extermination squads/dark priests. In Season 2, it was going to be revealed that this was all part of Kung Lao's nightmare foreshadowing his eventual demise. The nightmare was part of the plan from the main villain of the season (not clear if it was going to be another MK character or new one). Season 2 was dropped on pre-production due to budget limits. The producers and studio considered the show would cost way too much and specially having an animatronics Goro like in the movie at the end of the season as they planned.

The theatre showcasing a story of a samurai warrior being chased by Ninjas and eventually saving the day is incredible! No singing or campy stuff, just a kickass super fast excellently timed martial arts play with great acting that all attendees love. If they did it like that then I bet the MK Tour would have still be played even today. If the MK Live Tour production team was thinking the same to the same level as the Ninja Village then it wouldn't have been a train wreck, it would have been a smash hit. However, I doubt the US production team would have had the same dedication and excellence as the Japanese Ninja Village.

Here’s something that I was witness to back when MK2 was released. Back in 1993, I was a sophomore in high school. For years (and up until 2002 when I moved away), I frequented a local arcade called Jillys Arcade on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ. There were a number of arcades on the boardwalk (and I frequented them all), but Jillys seemed to always be on top of games and was overall larger than the others and thus would have more games. Now, I don’t know how it worked back then and even now, but since Jillys was always on the ball, they would constantly get new revisions of games. Mortal Kombat 2 was no exception. Because I was a “frequent flyer”, I knew most of the employees there. One day I got there and one of the MK2 cabinets was off and being worked on. I don’t remember if it was another employee or a 3rd party vendor, but I do remember talking to one employee that was there and told me that they were “updating” it. Having no idea what that meant, I went to play other games. Later I came back over and that same employee was playing the MK2 cabinet that was being worked on. He was pretty good at the game and I learned some stuff from him. Anyway, I’m standing there watching him, probably wondering to myself “it looks the same. What did they upgrade?” when he did something on The Pit stage and it did something that put him at the bottom of the pit and he fought a fucked up Kano. It immediately reminded me of the Reptile fight at the bottom of the pit in MK1, only Kano instead and he was all beat up and bloody. To this day, I have no idea what he did to make that happen and shortly after that day, there was yet another revision “update” to the MK2 cabinets, so it never happened again. Thinking back now as I type this, I’m wondering if the owner didn’t have some sort of sweet connection at Midway to test all these different revisions. Or maybe most “big” arcades had that sort of pull or whatever? If there are any previous arcade owners from the 90’s out there reading this, please chime in!

There's so much to unpack here, I just recently re-watched Mortal Kombat (1995) and thought it was alright, but I'm in the process of watching Mortal Kombat Annihilation and... it's just so bad (yes it's taken me multiple sittings, the movie is just that terrible). I didn't realize there was even more cringe worthy stuff in this franchise! Thanks for going deep into this, Mortal Kombat will forever hold a special place in my heart, as this was one of the first fighting games I own on the Sega Genesis and was probably too young to be playing this kind of game but did anyway.

Minor note- for the record, Conquest wasn't a failure. It had very good ratings, it's just one of those bullshit TV things where the network said there would be a second season but didn't want to spend any money on it, so it eventually got shitcanned. Which is sad, because for all its faults (CHEEEEEAAAAAPPPP), it was actually fun to watch, the fights were pretty good, and that cliffhanger is B R U T A L.

I've gotten right back into MK recently with 11 and I've been hammering X for the Platinum. Makes me happy it's back to the level of decency the original three had. Man so many memories.

I saw the live tour and remember nothing about it, except for the part where the actors ask the audience to wave their amulets to help "light the way" for Liu Kang or something like that.

I will say about the MKX Generations show, there have been photos released of BooBoo Stewart (Takeda) and of Lewis Tan (Kung Jin before he was Cole Young) and there was a twitter of the....director? (i can't remember if it was the director or what) who did confirm its existence.

You know, we joke about MK Nitro Trilogy on the 32X... but that could have had some potential. Pair it with a Sega CD version of MKT, and it could have been the best version... you just need a 32X...

If I am correct, the novelization of the Mortal Kombat movie confirms the Jade fight. The Annihilation novelization also has more details about Ermac and Noob Saibot, what happened to Kabal and Striker, another thing with Jade, and I believe a nod to Sektor existing.

Will you ever cover KZbin lost media or something similar? Like lost channels and videos There's one that I remember hearing from forums called Sphere Hunter Breakdown, it's really sad and mess up Look it up if you're interested.

I covered a few lost KZbin videos in my 10 Pieces of Internet Lost Media video, and I'm currently working on a part 2 that will cover more lost KZbin videos. But there are definitely enough to lost YT vids and channels to get their own video someday.

Saw the first movie opening weekend, and went to the live tour performance in Green Bay WI. MK was the 90s, and it’s never been as insane.

Great video but Just a FYI the Nitro stuff at end is a little off. I am one who was working on it back in 93. Boon did not post the info, I had via twitter.. I still have the roms and any clarification you need be sure to let me know. Ed mentioned the Nitro as april fools joke back around 96/97 as did we back then.. but rest assured it was a legit version

Legacy Season 3 just baffles me, ontop of Season 1 setting up some characters who dont have anything to do with Season 2, they just end S2 on a cliff hanger and then S3 wouldnt even resolve it.....just skip past it.....Who the hell was in charge on that decision

There was a lost Mortal Kombat X tie in show with a live action fight scene with Fera/Torr (who were exclusive characters to X) as well as a very recent Mortal Kombat Ultra Girls show which is in the style of Teen Titans Go and the PPG Reboot with stylized characters from the franchise and loosely based off Armageddon lore.

Honestly, I think the chances for Ash to be in MK 11 are super slim rn. MK 11 Ultimate was released and it has all the major dlc, basically a "complete edition" or "definitive edition". And I'm pretty sure all the characters (but Ash) in the dlc leak have been released. Unless there's a character pack 3 planned, I don't think they'll release Ash individually.

Way back in early 95, before the original movie came out, i could have sworn i saw a teaser trailer for the Mortal Kombat movie that was totally different than the movie we got, i specifically remember a monk with his mouth sown shut being a part of it. That was when the movie originally had a May release date. Then it was pushed back to August 18, they aaidnitnwas for inclusion of MK3 stuff, but maybe those original trailer scenes got cut? Or maybe im just crazy? Does anyone remember that too? Also, is there surviving footage of Cameron Diaz as Sonya?

So with regards to Season 3 of MK Legacy, there was an interview with Casper Van Dien who played Johnny back in 2018 and he was asked about this, this was his response: "As far as “Mortal Kombat”, we did film that already and it’s finished, but unfortunately, I couldn’t tell you what’s happening with it right now. Apparently, there’s something going on between Warner Brother and NetherRealm Studios and Ed Boon. From what I understand, they really liked how the third season turned out, and the director Garrett Warren and I had some people ask us about it recently, and right now, we don’t really know either, unfortunately." And some unedited footage of the third season did get leaked over on Reddit and KZbin respectively.

Amazing video. The only thing i think that is missing is Sonya as a playable character in MK Special Forces.. the game looks so promising when Tobias was working on it
