But that's my objection to TR - the lack of respect. I do wish another presenter - preferably one with an enquiring personality (rather than a confrontational one) had led the way: he appears to have been scripted to ask the "dumb questions", but the constant "why are we digging here not there like you said yesterday?" is unhelpful. We accept it's all exploratory - these digs can take years - so forget the "we've got to prove it and we've only got 3 days!" Jeopardy and focus on what can be done. He's better in some than others, but for me an historian would have been more in keeping. Or Guy, perhaps?

@@IamBlueCat666 oh get a grip, he's the presenter of the program. It's his job and he doesn't choose who does what, that's the producer and the director. Anyway the episodes stopped ending with a presentation and turned into a piss up and feast, which I'm sure the team preferred.

Absolutely love this show!!💚💚⛏️⛰️ And I thought our local 1777 cemetery was old!😂 BTW I'm a granddaughter of a few American Revolutionary Soldiers. Happy we kissed and made up!!😘☮️🇬🇧🇺🇸

Seeing Phil heave a spade-full of mucky goo onto his tailing repository reminded me of a scene in a Monty Python movie when a pair of Serf's are foraging on their hands and knees near a path and one says "oo look, oi found some lovely muck here oi 'ave". Phil is such a charming, mischievous character and I generally enjoy his shenanigans.

I love this sort of Time Team, I love them all to be fair, but this one really was good as it brought so much investigation from different areas in to it to piece it together.... hearing them say that dock was wiped out somewhere between 1650 and 1700, and then to find in 1673 a massive tidal surge went through the area, really brought the history alive somewhat. Brilliant stuff.

I’m baffled by the lack of subscribers on this page!! Hopefully it’s a relatively new one? Because I know KZbin is huge with us history nerds

0:31 What a sweeeet boat!! Can anyone tell me more about her and that design? A lugger of some sort? Is it particular to that area? Nice big piece of Newfoundland salt cod at 47:13 too.

No. A gaff cutter known as a Colchester smack. many of them were around and still fishing for spratt in the winter and I think oyster dredging too, when I was a child. ( Now 75) Their fishing registration number was preceded by the letters CK then their number, CK stood for Colchester Creek ( River Colne) actually. My parents owned the Martello Tower at St. Osyth stone and that was where I was born on Christmas Eve in 1947. I have lived in Australia for the last 50 years.

I am with @A Bleese when they say they regret never getting to go to one of the digs. 20 years and I never made it. I guess I just thought it would go on forever.

I was lucky. My wife was one of the archaeologists on Time Team. She now does quite a bit with Helen Geake at the British Museum.

Anyone know what bird that is calling at 3:48 and elsewhere? Always hear it on the coast in shows set in the UK, always wondered what it was!
