Love this review, you talking about the not wanting to spend 200 on a new seat was all i needed to know,. Its not a free product you were given its genuinely something you bought to use and have really put in the hours because its what you were able to. Im thinking about picking one of these up thanks for the video!

Great video!! I just ordered the beaver tail rudder, I had no idea there was a better option available and just assumed I'd always have to fight the factory one haha! I had some steering issues as well but I replaced the cables with bike brake cables and rerouted them through the hull a little better. That repair has held up so far but now I'm tempted to get the 8ball set up. Thanks again this video was very helpful!!

Thank-you. I highly recommend it. There is almost zero friction when turning and with the bigger beaver tail you turn on a dime.

Right. Glad to have helped. My steering wires broke at the back there you connect it to the rudder. I am in the salt and it just corroded the wires at the connection point. I suggest you coat that connection or get coated wires when it inevitably breaks.

sorry for all of my comments trying to get my 8 ball and beavertail rudder fitted. finally got them on. still need to run the cables and rudder deployment rope. Progress, but major pain.

No worries. It is a pain but well worth it for the upgrade. If you are using your kayak in salt water the cable can break right where you connect it to the rudder. Rinse it there every time you go out. Maybe flex seal or something would be good to put on the cable so it can't corrode there.

Having to make so many repairs to the steering would get old very quickly, hopefully that will be the last time you have to make that repair. Seven foot swells? That's a roller coaster ride, Haha.

How hard was it to set up the new steering? I saw you moved the wire location to a new spot. Can I just buy the steering control and use the same existing wires from factory?

It was pretty easy. I think you could use the existing wires. The steering did break on me at the back right where it connects to the rudder. The wire corroded from the salt. I am gonna run some coated steel when I rewire it. But I think just rinsing the connection after I went out every time would have made it last longer or coating it with some flex seal spray.

It'll get you there but you'll have to deal with the steering after a bit.

Back in July I bought a similar lost creek pedal drive. Paid 1600, and I love it! Took it out on the sound last night, only issues so far are the difficult steering, and the rod holder it came with isn’t strong enough to troll with. It didn’t break but no matter how hard I tighten it down, it spins and I end up having to turn around in my seat to see if that last jerk to the side was my rod or a rogue wave. Do you know of any drop in trolling motors? I was looking at the back end, and I think I could pretty easily make an extruded aluminum frame in the back to add a bolt on transom, but then again I don’t want to constantly be taking the rudder on and off.

I haven't used any trolling motors but the kayak spot lock ones attach at the front of the kayak. The issues I saw with those were they were heavy and the battery wouldn't last all day. My pedal drive just broke but I have had this for almost 3 years now. I may get a motor and do a video on that.

Couple of friends have the Hobie mirage pro angler 14 he has so many accessories like electric motor, live well, led running lights, full screen lowrance. only $4,600 plus all the add-ons he put on so i'm sure it's a lot more then that. You said you were fishing last week was it for kings at Sekiu?

Right. Sounds like his kayak is more decked out than most people's boats. I went to Neah Bay but the tides weren't in my favor. I didn't get any but I salvaged the day with two lings and a cabezon. Unfortunately, they came out of my cooler and dried out on the trip home. I guess I was driving too crazy.

which feelfree 8 ball steering system did you use? I see there's two. Don't see a difference. Don't know if it makes a difference since it's being retrofitted to a different model kayak. Same for the beavertail rudder, which one did you use? I'm also considering running my cables inside the kayak down the side to the rudder rather than under the seat and then inside to the rudder. Thanks in advance.

I bought the feel free 8 ball steering. I don't see how you attached it on the gear track. Did you keep the stainless steel plate on it? If so how'd you get it attached to the gear track?.

ok. figured our how to get the steering handle ontp the gear track. Trying to figure out how you used the old rudder mount as our kayaks are shaped differently than the feel frees and there isn't a mount. But can't figure out how to get the pin/biltong the rudder to go through the lostcreek mount.

At 4:22 you have to drill a new hole to mount it.

A little bit. The seal on the back hatch went on me and I had to reseal it. I forgot to mention that in the video. But that doesn't seem to be your issue. I'd return it.
