UNSPONSORED VIDEO
I recently visited LOST CREEK MACHINERY in Ottawa, IL. The owners had just recently made their largest buy ever of quality tools. These tools came from a collector that had an ENORMOUS accumulation of machinist tools. The showroom is so loaded with machines & tools, it is actually mind blowing & overwhelming.
Join me as I run the camera thru their shop in a frenzy of excitement . Lots of STARRETT tools.

Thanks for the tour! Lots and lots of fun stuff there. In case you haven’t seen them, there is a “body mount” for your iPhone or GoPro. It’s straps around you like a backpack but it’s on the front side hanging the camera a few inches below your chin. This way you have both hands available (you could have shown us the inside of many more boxes 🤗), they’re pretty cool.

We had snow the same day here in North Central Iowa, it was greeted with disdain! I loved looking through the "plunder" with hopes I would spot a woodworking machine but none to be seen. I have always wanted one of the big heavy duty wood lathes like we had in shop class back in the early 1960's. I think they were Rockwell but can't be sure. Instead I am stuck with a crappy Craftsman. Thanks for the ride along Mr. Pete.

What is truly staggering - and I have said this before - is the implication behind such a haul. Just imagine what's still out there? And how much stuff the USA (and others) have produced. An absolute monument to the centuries of success of US industrial production. And that this is all now considered to be unwanted!

Great-looking box of Starrett mics there towards the end. Several years ago I found a box like that, full of 8-10 of the analog (ie; non-battery-powered) digital mics. I think it might even go up to 12". They had just been "certified" and the price was like $950...so I bought them. Still have them to this day, although I don't have much call for the ones over 6-7" in model engine making. But the deal was so good I couldn't pass it up--and I'm glad I didn't. I also bought a box with a metric mic kit a couple of years later, but it's much smaller--I think there are only 5-6 mics in it. But for the $350-400 it cost, I couldn't pass up the deal...especially when the mics look like they've never been used. Sometimes you find those incredible deals and have to move quickly. Looks like I need to call these fellow about stocking up on milling cutters and reamers.

Tool and die injection mold apprenticeship in 1962 all the journeymen tool chests contained many sturdy Surcret tins. In 1964 we produced an AISI-S7 hob to form the 8 cavity tooling for the bottom and cover molds to make them from plastic. I like the tin better.

So sad to go through those tool boxes and see the lack of organization in them. We had a guy in the shop once that we offered to buy him a wheel barrow to put his tools in due to the fact of how he kept his “tool box” un-organized. He just would not buy into the fact that those tools were his present and future success/failure in the trade.

Lyle, we had a defense contractor that relocated from Pennsylvania to Florida, and they scrapped around $5 million in carbide cutters, some of which were proprietary, but most weren't. I tried my best to point them in the direction of trade schools, but alas, they got junked. I probably could have bought some at the yard, but they were a bit far for me to travel that far.
