The softlock issue is almost gone on release FYI: They made it so you can lower the difficulty at camp, but cannot raise it. So as long as you have a file back at camp, you'll always be able to drop the difficulty if you're really struggling. You cannot, however, change between casual and maniac (permadeath), once you've started your game. Pretty fair way to balance it

As a single parent, it would be awesome to see a quick mention of if you can pause a cutscene. I'm fine with games being cutscene heavy, but when my toddler acts a fool I need to address it without having to miss anything (which is also why I never play online games anymore).

Oh man I don't have a toddler but my cat and just life tends to interrupt. I am playing wasteland 3 right now and oh my the number of times I wished the game would pause much less any cutscene type situation. It amazes me that single player games can't be paused at almost 100% of the time.

The whole "rewind a bit of the combat" is a great idea to make the ironman mode actually playable. I never use this mode because I'm afraid a misclick or a bug might cost me a battle or even a campaign.

Like you said Undo, battle system (monsters and how battle animations are shown etc etc), leadership and other things as a package are really reminiscent of Fire Emblem Three Houses. I haven't played other FE games so maybe it is as a whole. Sounds quite interesting especially since you say the story is engaging.

This seems really close to FE:TH. I enjoyed Three Houses combat for a while, but it got stale to me long before the game was over. I was hoping this finds a way to keep fresh all the way to the end, however it sounds it might suffer the same fate.

Just looking at the review, it appears that "inspired by Fire Emblem" might be a bit of an understatement, just with a more western atmosphere. Not horribly surprising that enemy/encounter variety would be an issue, that's usually what you get when you're fighting pretty much all human soldiers in a deliberately gritty/low-fantasy setting without dungeon delving. The same thing looks like it applies to the party: When you were sorting through characters, most looked pretty "generic soldier-guy" compared to the colorful cast of most CRPGs (and especially compared to colorful anime-ish aesthetics like Fire Emblem). All that said, it looks like it implements those mechanics quite well, and the positive things you had to say about the story give me a lot of hope that their personalities and struggles are more interesting than their faces would suggest. Overall, at this price point, you've got me curious enough to take a deeper look.

I think it's pretty great as it is because if you added that you'd make it pretty difficult for the community to create added content. I think I have like 100+ dowloaded modules and full campaigns created by the fan base/community.

I like this game a lot:: 1. takes around 1o minutes to download 2. Battle cinematix looks amazing 3. rich story. Couple things I don't like: 1. some dialogue parts are mute...2 . I thought the story was weak, but I liked the combat. It would be really interesting to be able to explore the map instead of getting caught up in the plot. Basically the game turned for me: Skip cutscene 3~4x > Fight > skip dialog with NPCS > Leave Camp > Skip cutscene 3~4x > Fight....

zones of control sound like an excellent idea, i know tactics ogre had a similar system, but that game leans more toward th fftactics style of gameplay, while this one is more like fire emblem, which i think could use a similar system

This game is EXTREMELY similar to FEthree houses. The monster mechanic and divine pulse mechanic are almost exactly the same, and the combat looks quite similar too. That being said, FE3houses is one of the best games on the switch, so if this comes close to the quality and polish that game has then this game is probably awesome.

Pretty impressive game, especially considering its their first one. Its HEAVILY inspired by Fire Emblem Three Houses with a western visual. The armor designs are beautiful but I feel it is a tad bit slow issuing orders during combat.

Kind of a lot to answer in a comment, but I work at this seven days a week almost all day and the rest is streamlining what I can. You'll notice the videos use the same transitions and are generally edited in a way that is quickly repeatable, I write bullet points as I play games not scripts, I dont put my face in the videos purely to edit faster, the daily videos are short easy topics, etc. Also worth mentioning that when a video publishes isn't necessarily when I finished something so by the time something publishes I'm a day or so into the next thing usually. Just a lot of practice makes perfect across seven years of making videos to find something that works for me. When I hit 100k subs I will probably start taking a day off a week though.

My first impression has been that it's good but a lot of people are going to complain about the serious case of skill emblem going on here. On player phase it's easy to figure out who will get hit for what, but on enemy phase it's hard to calculate what you'll get hit for because of all the passive and active bonuses sitting all over the character sheet, which makes playing on ironman tedious.

I liked your video however, I still don't understand the complexity / simplicity of the combat. For the majority of it, you moved and clicked attack or spell. So, are there things like DoT, Stun, Snare, or similar to which we are used to from the generality of TRPGs?
