I have watched this several times at this point. The TTS voice doesn’t bother me, but I see why it bothers others. The quality and time it has taken you to research and experience this show to its fullest is amazing. Absolutely great work. I watched this show first when I was in a children’s hospital and I remember when boon died, where I was, what I was doing, and the weather outside. All those memories, a few moments in time, linked to this show. The mind is an amazing creation. Good to hear your actual voice is coming to this project, but I respect and love this video also. Keep up the great work.

Its all connected! We all came, and will all return. The patterns, the numbers, are no coincidence. YHWH... The BREATH of LIFE. Light is sound, and sound created this place, everything in it, and us. The darkness is real, and is the enemy. Darkness can't create, but only manipulates, twists, and flips what is already created. The light rules over all, including the darkness. Just as you turn on a light switch in a dark room, and it floods the room with light extinguishing the dark. Light is more powerful than dark. Thus... Good is light, dark is bad. Choose to spread light by doing good. The most important lesson... Belief in the light extinguishes the dark. Yeshua, Jesus Christ is that Light!

@@janessap1739 As Christian said to Jack in the church at the end, “some died before you, some long after you”. We saw Boone and Shannon die. We saw Jack die at the very last scene when he closed his eyes on the island next to Vincent. Kate, Sawyer, Claire etc… left the island and lived for however long they did. The flash sideways in season 6 (off the island stuff) was after they all died. The incident at the end of season 5 (Juliet hitting the bomb) put them back into the present time on the island from where they were, 1977 back to 2007. If that makes sense. They didn’t die in the plane crash, they didn’t die when Juliet hit the bomb, they all died at various times. If that makes any sense. Haha

This is a masterpiece! Hands down the best analysis of LOST on the internet. I really appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into making this. What I like best about your videos is that you manage to draw logical conclusions almost entirely from information that is presented within the show itself, and not just baseless speculation that borderlines on fan fiction like many others do. I know a lot of people like to claim that LOST didn't answer any of its mysteries, or that the writers were just making everything up as they went along, but the answers and larger narrative were always there for the fans motivated enough to dig for it, such as yourself. Bravo!

@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 The effort in this is staggering. Well done mate. However, you have really tried to help damon and carlton out by inferring things they themselves didn't have a clue about! The show is still my favourite show ever but no way from season 1-6 was this thing mapped out. They were writing it as they went, that much is clear.
@LOSTEXPLAINED108
@LOSTEXPLAINED108 2 жыл бұрын
@@DannyOmu First of all, thank you! How they wrote the show is more complicated than "they had a plan from the start" vs "they made it up as they went." In season one, they were making it up as they went, just to keep up with the network schedule. Between S1 and S2, they started planning out the mythology. Hence why S2 introduces so many foundational elements such as the light/electromagnetism, DHARMA, the smoke monster, etc. They knew what answers to a lot of the mysteries were and where they wanted to go. The rule in the writersroom was: "If anyone can beat the current answer they have planned for something then they will change it." They had a road map that could be adjusted (and was adjusted) as they drove along the route. However, that isn't to say that the narrative was aimless or did not have purpose in the direction it was heading. Writing for network television across six years will always feature unexpected pitstops and diversions and route changes. They don't have perfect control over everything like an author would with a novel. So, I don't hold their feet to the fire on any of the inconsistencies or mistakes that got made along the way. I suppose there is a reason they haven’t sat down and explained their intentions behind everything and want the show to speak for itself. They don't want to trip over their own feet. LOST is full of potential plot landmines for them if they say the wrong thing because we have all watched it so closely. And we're often ready to pounce! I choose to be generous to the writers and their intentions and maintain good faith that, while ideas evolved and changed over time, they had specific meaning and intention behind the mythology. I'm a big believer in "trust the tale, not the teller". Audiences usually think more deeply about a work of fiction that they love than the person who created it. Whether or not this applies to the LOST writers, I don't really know. I like to believe they knew what everything meant by the end and could easily validate or dismiss my ideas one-by-one. This is why I mostly try to avoid using interviews and quotes from them as proof of anything (with a rare few exceptions). Because the only canon that counts is the show itself, and what we as viewers/fans make of it.

@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 Yh i hear what you are saying, but there are a few things with the writers that just really annoy me. They lied on multiple occasions. They said it wasn't going to be purgatory......then circled back to purgatory for season 6 😐 They messed up rebecca maders age, then said it was her fault. 😐 Nothing the smoke monster did in season 1-4 really adds up to MIBs motivations in season 5 onwards.... Sayid moves on to afterlife with Shannon. wtf. Sayid gets absolutely butchered from season 4 on. The writers said dead is dead, but sayid was resurrected.....which means anyone can now be brought back.... Like I said, this video is amazing but it definitely feels like you are really helping the writers out with things THEY should have made clear in the show. I shouldn't nees to watch this to know if mother was smoke monster or not 😌 I am an hour into your review but will be watching more tonight!

My wife and I both love Lost. My wife walked down the aisle to Lost's Life & Death theme when we got married years ago. Anyway, we just started rewatching it with my nine-year-old daughter this week and it's so wonderful to share. It was so great to hear her say, "Can we watch another Lost?" three episodes in. I'm so happy to explore this show again one episode at a time with someone who hasn't experienced it yet. I told her, "I'm so jealous of you, because you don't know what is going to happen" and it gives me such pleasure to see her take it all in. The show hits harder watching it again because my father passed away last summer, and this show is so much about the ups and downs of families, specifically fathers and sons. I know watching it, I might cry quite a lot. But that's the cathartic beauty of this series. Getting hooked on watching it again led me to this channel, and it is just amazing. Damon Lindelof's follow-up show 'The Leftovers' is a spiritual successor to LOST for sure, although it's a much darker and bleaker vision. You might have already watched this though. I'd also recommend a British six-part miniseries called 'The Third Day', which is about a strange isle off the coast of England that exerts a mystical influence over the world and draws people to its shores. Congratulations on the channel, true love and dedication even so many years after the show. I've always thought that I needed to rewatch the whole thing because I missed so many details, but had the idea that most of it was nonsensical storytelling and I shouldn't bother. Oh boy you gave me reasons to watch it again. My god I didn't understand half of it! Do you think, even though the show has a deep meaning and was very thougt through, that they over complicated the plot, making in it too hard to get for the weekly normal audience. I mean, is it worth it to make a show so complex that you need a series of long videos or a lostcyclopedia to get a glimpse of what was gooing on? Anyway great job and thanks for helping me make terms with this beloved show.
@LOSTEXPLAINED108
@LOSTEXPLAINED108 3 жыл бұрын
The overcomplications in the plot were mostly related to the restrictions the writers had in telling the story over six years on network television. ABC wanted the show to run forever until it ran out of gas while Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse (the showrunners) wanted to end the show so they could tie off the story neatly. They campaigned for an end date from the start and were forced to stretch the narrative (you'll see a lot of this happening in seasons two and three). They were adding more and more mysteries and plotlines in order to play for time. Anyway, after a rating blip, ABC finally agreed to an end date. A lot of the inconsistencies and overcomplications came about as a result of the writers flying by the seat of their pants during those early years. They had a plan for the overall direction of the show but that plan could not be implemented because of uncertainty surrounding how long they would have to keep this juggernaut of a narrative unfolding. I think LOST has a very rich and complex mythology as a result of their planning, but it was made more complicated and confusing because of all these adjustments they kept making. The show was ahead of its time in terms of the level of detail that was put into the storytelling from the start. However, it was a network show and had to also cater to audiences that just want dramatic escapism every week. Some people watched the show without really worrying too much about untangling the mysteries and answers. They just enjoyed the ride and never really looked back that much (I know people who did this with LOST; they loved it and obsessed over it while it was on, but once it was over they never went back to or talked about it again). While others in the fandom -- like me! -- really wanted a deep dive into all of this stuff and became obsessed with detail and figuring it all out. So, to answer your question, I think the complicated mythology of LOST is a mix of intentional planning and unintentional diversions and detours. The writers knew that their audience was split between the aforementioned groups (the casual viewers and the obsessive hardcore fans) and they tried to ride that line all the way to the finish line. The causal viewers don't worry about the mythology too much. But, for those that care to go on these deep dives, we can unlock all of the information the writers embedded into the narrative and debate/discuss/hypothesise over forever. The ambiguities and seemingly unexplained mysteries (that have clues) are what keep people like us talking about the show ten years after it ended. Sometimes, it's a mystery that has multiple interpretations/answers. Other times, it's a mystery that has a definitive explanation. And then there are the times when the answer is contradictory or inconsistent, and we must try to reconcile it with the other information presented. Only fans who are truly in love with the show go to those lengths. And we are the audience, I think, the writers had always been writing to and hoping for. :)

I would answer your question about "did they overcomplicate..." this way. Some people like 2 chord punk rock, some like 200 piece orchestras arrangements but both are ART.. In my opinion the writers did something almost impossible to achieve. They fed you a metaphorical cheeseburger, a story you may have eaten hundreds of times but they made a burger like the world had never tasted...to me that is Art.

I relate to Jhon Lock so much, suffering with health issues and having people tell me what i can or cannot do, so i was sad when he was manipulated and killed. I watched it all in a month. The ending was confusing at first because i was convinced there was an alternative reality. But then you explained it all very well. My husband loved it too, my only regret was only watching it now. You can relate to everyone and their problems. I love this Channel and your fantastic work, and hope you continue to put all of this in your own voice. I love this series

Excellent video. Just finished re-watching this show and found myself remembering how much fun it was the first time and how enjoyable it really was (and still is). Character development is what shines in this show to me. So many heartfelt and touching scenes and very few shows had you hooked and caring about characters the way this show did. I get some wanted a nice simple logical explanation for everything, but I prefer the less obvious. Being completely non-religious I had to suspend disbelief when watching, but no different than watching a sci-fi show where humans travel faster than light and keep running into other humans on various planets that just happen to speak perfect English. There are few shows like this and few that get really invested in the characters and care so much about them. This video helps to explain somethings that I just either took for granted or even just pushed aside and didn't realize that it really did make sense overall. Thanks.

Absolutely Fantastic. Taking it in bits and pieces, to slowly reabsorb it all, and then, at the end, re-immerse myself in the world of LOST. Truthfully, I was quite disappointed with the series ending, but, only fairly recently, specially after understanding other TV shows such as Westworld, The Good Place, Matrix Saga, DARK, Russian Doll etc., I wondered, had I actually entirely grasped the show for what it was trying to portray. Key traits of Existentialism, Stoicism, Determinism, spread throughout the series... which forced me to revisit some classics from a fresh perspective, such as, Groundhog Day, Stranger than Fiction, to name a few.
@XanderShiller

I agree. For me it was the Sopranos which remains my fav sitcom/dramedy. Except with Groundhog Day, my critical thinking/philosophical side subsides when I realize it's essentially Bill Murray learning how to seduce/manipulate his producer. Like a Hollywood love story. Not the "tradition " kind.

This a masterpiece of a video for a masterpiece of a show… outstanding work and puts many things into perspective for sure. What are your thoughts on the swan been built before/after the incident? Change of plot for the writers maybe? Anyway hope to see more from you soon.. see ya in another life, brother.
@LOSTEXPLAINED108
@LOSTEXPLAINED108 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the very kind words and your support :) My thoughts on The Incident are that -- ignoring any retconning from the writers -- Jughead caused an implosion that staved off disaster in 1977. This implosion plugged the leak. Which bought DHARMA enough time to fill in the bottom of the hole with concrete. From there, they finished construction on The Swan and continued to study the electromagnetism. But the leak started up again sometime between the final stages of construction and the station being fully operational. How do we know this? Well, "The Incident" originally took place in 1977. But the computer itself is a slightly later build (based on the Apple II), which means the button was not implemented for another several years. The orientation video for The Swan is also dated 1980. Which means the leak came back slowly over time, forcing DHARMA to alter the purpose of The Swan from a research station to a world-saving barrier. They installed a reactor capable of absorbing the electromagnetic build-up so it could be discharged safely. And that is what is hidden behind the sealed wall up top. For whatever reason, that room was abandoned some time between 1980 and 2001, perhaps due to an almost-incident in which the button wasn't pushed in time. We can only speculate as to why they walled off that room, but it was most likely to avoid another meltdown. When Desmond turns the fail-safe key, he is essentially detonating this reactor and blowing up the pocket of energy.
@harleyt3563
@harleyt3563 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply and that actually makes quite a lot of sense as I had been reading some completely off the wall theories about this. Yours is most logical within what we see in the show for sure! Take care brother
@chanceneck8072
@chanceneck8072 2 жыл бұрын
@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 Perhaps they walled off that reactor room, because the pocket had built up too much electromagnetic energy again, to a level that would be too dangerous for people to get that close to. They could only keep the energy at bay by proxy by pushing the button, the failsafe system was still intact, because the reactor maintained operational. It´s just that the electromagnetic levels AT the reactor became too high again for humans to go there, so they sealed it off...... Anyway, I would LOVE to see some of that stuff and like some of the mystical ancient Island lore explained in some sort of prequel or spin-off. Although it could bring the risk, that they´ll fuck it all up.... (btw: that´s also, why I ALWAYS spell the Island with a captal "I"! Because it certainly is a character of its own...)

I don't think I've watched in full a youtube video of this length before but I'm glad I did. I was one of the people who was not pissed off at the finale and grasped at least some of what the writers were going for. This video really fills in many of the gaps of things I didn't pick up on during the time the show aired. I'm still unsure about the idea of destiny or if a timeline is simply something where people do things of their free will, but when you look at things in reverse to see how it comes together, it appears to be destiny. But that's simply because of how our brains construct events into recognizable patterns. Anyhow, maybe both are somehow true. Thanks again for the effort put into this.

I write this as I finish this 5h long video, at first the robot voice bothered me but I was blown away by the content and level or analysis that I just ignored it. I watched the show as a teen growing up, closer to the ending waiting every week to watch via streaming. This show means a lot to me, I made friends because of it and learned a bunch of English. I cried at the ending and I never knew why I makrs me so emotional however now I believe I can finally see. I am an atheist and a man of science yet my favorite character was always Locke and it fascinates me how people can believe incredible things even though I can not. The ending of the show is a beautiful celebration of the human experience and connections yet I can't bring myself to believe real life is like that. It's fantasy and it's role it remind us that we can have second chances, we can regret, we can take control of our lives and act to protect the ones we love but most important we can and should appreciate our soul mates and those who are with us through thick and thin. That being said, I also became a scifi nerd and having 2 explanations for certain things just feels so right and well done. Cheers, thanks for this amazing video.

Bless you, sir! Thank you for saying that and sticking with the video. LOST has meant so much to so many people around the world that it has transcended languages, cultures and belief systems. Like you, I was a staunch atheist when I first watched the show. And, like you, John Locke was instantly my favourite character in the show, and possibly of all time. It's amazing how we can find empathy in fiction for people we might not agree with in real life. The show opened me up to spirituality and existential concepts, as well as philosophy and history and culture (both classic and pop). It's a really remarkable piece of fiction that touches upon both cerebral and emotional ideas. This channel is my small way to help perpetuate that legacy of LOST and contribute to the conversation surrounding it. If I can help to clarify or explain the mythology so that it clicks better for some fans then I am a happy KZbinr! I'm just glad that it is resonating with fans like yourself.

To me the most important thing about watching LOST was to do it as the new episodes were being released. That made me grow with the show. I watched it since I was about 9/10 years old until I finished 16. It changed how I look at life. It was an experience. Not just watching a TV show. People that "bing" it these days don't know what they have LOST. I was there when vids like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYnEcqWHnrCNnqM were mentioned on the lost fan websites that were full of theories, speculations and spoilers. I remember reading those news on new filming locations and seeing those photos from "behind the bushes" taken by fans. Your work and videos is what this show deserved. 6:09 not only did the temple waters heal Young Ben, but it took away a part of his soul, like it did to Sayid in season 6. Hence why Ben grew up to be pretty emotionless and evil in all his ways. Losing his daughter Alex though seemed to somewhat bring back a hint of old Ben, the Ben that would bring sandwiches to an incarcerated Sayid. Even then in losing his daughter, he didn't display much emotion as someone would with that type of bond.

I think I fully figured out the polar bears: They were experimenting on Polar bears to see the effects of teleporting something with a human sized brain (using the Orchid Station teleporters) and also see if they could adapt an animal used to cold temperatures to survive in warmer temperatures (the data could be used for humans with global warming coming). I read somewhere that the Dharma Initiative was trying to change an equation that calculated the end of the world; they could have tried to do that by changing human survivability in warmer climates, hence the bear experiments. The bear Charlotte found in Tunisia was one that they put in the teleporter in Orchid Station teleporters to see its effect. Let me know what you guys think

Very well done. One thing to consider: every script is determinative and so every enacted screenplay is deterministic. The characters do what the writers devise them to do and often with emphases and intentions given them by the director. This was first well-plumbed by David Lynch in Twin Peaks, where there were actually characters who knew they were in a TV show (and why they keep showing that soap opera on TVs in episodes throughout the series). I do have to comment on the faith versus rationality question, however. I may be alone in this, but it is my considered opinion after many years of reflection, that no faith that is not grounded in a rational understanding but also in acceptance of an infallible authority can survive. There does not happen to be any such religion, even the one I personally hold, or there wouldn't be such fragmentation as people mutate their understanding down the ages. That said, it remains that LOST did as good a job of highlighting that there is a supposed conflict between the two and that the conflict does not need to be.

This was wonderfully epic I understand things i never new existed i love these types of movie and series as no matter how many times you watch it you always find something new. I was confused about the flash sideways but i must have known something cuz i cried my heart out a t the end then the titles came up with just the wreckage on the beach no music just the sounds of the waves i howled and heave cried io cried at the end of this to as it put the feelings i had into prospective i will be messed up for weeks every time i think about it now. Thank you for taking the time to do this i know it took a very long time i appropriate your hard work I loved it

September 22nd 2004 the day “Lost” premiered becoming an instant hit overnight averaging 18.5 million viewers on the Pilot episode alone. I love how this series of videos you’ve put together already confirmed what was already given to us during the show leaving us with just enough pieces to put together ourselves. 😎
