What a great program Lost In Space was! Dr Smith (played by Jonathan Harris) was, in my opinion, one of the best actors on TV. This show will live on!

One thing I never understood was how Dr.Smith so badly wanted the ship to return to earth, when, if it ever did, he would immediately be arrested and charged with sabotage and treason and possibly executed. He was working on behalf of a major foreign power, likely Russia/Soviet Union.

The unfilmed fourth seadon episode was called Malice in Wonderspace. Great title and i think it did have to do with Alice in Wonderland.

I lived from week to week for this show in the late 60's! if I ever missed an episode I was grumpy the whole time! it was dubbed in Persian!

@MrEvan8689: What you are saying is true. But the show was never marketed to an adult audience. The reason I think it has lasted so long was the fact that the Dr. Smith character was so unique for the times. A complicated mixture of villain and anti-hero. Sure the show could have stood some better plot developments. But all of Irwin Allen's TV shows suffered from weak writing. The joy of watching is not expecting to see Battlestar Galatica but rather Alice in Wonderland.

@Wellch I can't recall WHICH network You refered to, But I heard an old audio tape of Gene Roddenbury talking at a Star Trek convention in the 70s. He spoke of how he went to the above mentioned network(before showing it to NBC) & tried to get them to take on Star Trek. The told him, 'Well, We already HAVe a Sci-fi TV show...It's called Lost in Space." The audience exploded with laughter. Later, NBC was almost as bad; "We like your concept...but get rid of the guy with the EARS..."

@MrEvan8689 No you don't get it. It was Alice in Wonderland in Space and the campy episodes were also in Season One. Come on.. the Space Croppers, the Keeper, Our Majesty Smith. All first season episodes and all wonderfully campy. LIS was pure fun.

I couldn't agree more. The first season was excellent science fiction. Too bad this series finished the way it did. But crew, cast and producers can be proud of the first season for sure.

anybody notice that Allen re-used costumes, sets, machines on various episodes? it kind of gave the series a cheap look (but not distractingly so--the other elements made it worth while) the man really knew how to save a nickel!!!

One of my fave LIS is the one where the lizard man and the golden man are set to wage war against each other. Penny ends up befriending the 'hostile' lizard man. IDAK was stupid, but as a kid I liked it. Even as a kid, I still preferred the less campy B&W episodes.

Due to budget cuts, they needed to color tint B&W footage from year 1's "The Derelict" and reuse it for this. I don't agree with marcparella that year 3 was worst; I think it was better than year 2, which had a lot of near-unwatchable shows. Recall the silly "Thor" episode, the female dragon chased by Hans Conreid, the thief of Bagdad like alien, the circus troupe one & the awful spoof of Mutiny On The Bounty-"Mr. Kidnow, who stole my goat cheese?" The 3rd year didn't have such horrid clunkers!
