@ 4:48.. Pea the inability to think in compass / map directions is not just a PI thing. It's more a woman thing. Using my sister as an example she had no clue about going west then turning north to reach some location. But tell her it's next door to xyz store, and she knew exactly where to go. She must have shopped every store in our large town.

masks dont work.. lol.. no. not being contrary, just a genuine expert on the physics of masks people wear. a common mask is fine for small particulate matter, floating dust, light smoke, etc. but, no mask people by that isnt a HEPA filter, can filter out, or stop transmission of, a viral sized particle. the average virus ( most are very similar sized, and ALL are sub-microscopic, meaning ,you need an electron microscope to see them ) that can get carried out of your lungs, via exhale, breathing, etc, along with the water molecule, is about 0.1 to 0.3 microns in size.. the virus itself is 0.04-0.064 microns in size.. your top grade mask ??? 5 microns.. average paper filter masks ?? 10-25 microns.. and cloth masks ?? 25-100 microns-- good for nothing but visible dust or bigger. not mask sold, not even N95, filter out viral particles attached to water vapor expelled from your lungs.. thats just the laws of physics at work, not politics. secondly, unless you genuinely COUGH or SNEEZE thru your mask ?? you wont expel a particle BIG enough to be actually filtered by your mask. i use our own CDC website for filtration size, viral particle size, and water vapor molecule sizes.. i dont pull them outta my butt.. and,, our own CDC ( in USA ) has at NOT TIME made this statement ' Wearing a mask will stop or inhibit the transmission or inhalation of any virus ".. they know if they did, they could be sued for wreckless endangerment of public health and safety by issuing a false statement.. and it is false.. they say instead " Wearing a mask may help prevent transmission..">. help prevent.. NOT STOP.. its a nice and deliberately vague statement. "wearing a mask saves lives !".. it could.. but again,, they leave out " Wearing a mask saves lives because it will stop transmission or inhalation of Covid 19"... they NEVER SAY that.. ever..because,, again, they cant.. its a false statement, backed by easily checked technology. simple filtration transmission test using quantified agents that can determine particulate size that a filtration media can in fact, filter out. how ELSE do you think they come up with things like HEPA filter ?? or N95 ? or even Surgical mask ratings ?? quantifiable testing.. fill a container with contaminated viral particles , put a filter inbetween it and an empty container, using a vacuum pump, pull the contaminated side thru, and they will FLY thru a paper mask as if it wasnt even present.. so i hate to burst peoples bubbles.. but, wearing a mask ?? doesnt do jack sh** in stopping you from getting or passing on, the FLU or covid or the common cold..its physics.. not politics.. and sick and tired of people being lied too..

You know one of the things which just weirded me out about the PH is. When my wife and I traveled there with our kids. I met my wife in Canada but she is a Filipina, on one of our last days in a none tourist area I was randomly thirsty. Normally we either went to a tourist area to eat and drink or bought the stuff out right. However this time I went to a little convenient store and ordered a coke in my broken tagalog. The person gets the bottle... opens it... (I'm like already what the heck!!!) gets a plastic bag (I'm like wtf is he going to do now) pours it in the plastic bag with a straw, places the bottle into what might be a box, hands me the plastic bag. I can't tell you as a Canadian and one from a large Urban centre of Toronto how freaken strange this was. I even asked my wife... "Is this normal" she told me yes, at least in her province. I told her that her people were strange and went on drinking my coke out of a plastic bag with a straw like a complete weirdo. :(

The reason for that is the bottle has a deposit on it and most if not all Filipino's will take the bottle without paying the deposit and thus the store would lose money therefore, the plastic bag and straw.

I bought a boxed set of crockery in Cebu SM. As I was taking it off the shelf, three store personnel came over, two opened the box and examined every cup and plate up close while the third watched. My take is that it was a time filling exercise by overstaffed store members trying to justify their employment.
@garycampbell6245
@garycampbell6245 Жыл бұрын
I would suggest it more a helpful gesture as you had no Filipino to do the check properly at hand. I would have been very grateful because just imagine having spent a large proportion of your earnings on a product, carrying it home in a jeepney or trike and then opening the box to find one or more items broken. That is how they would experience the necessity of having to check what you bought was AOK before leaving the store.

The part about directions reminded me about another bit of Filipino culture. If you ask for directions from a stranger (for example on the street in Manila), and the stranger doesn’t know the answer, they will give you directions anyway. They’d rather make something up than admit they don’t know. Maybe Pea can explain why 😅

One thing I have really learned and applied to my own life I learned from Filipinos. The crooked finger for you come over. Very Bad managers have used this sign, and when I ignored them and told I am not a dog...but a man. I do not respond to this sign as it is very bad and disrespectful! I also told them that it is possible that you do this and to a Filipino man..... Something very BAD can happen to you. I am not an exception either! They usually change...Fast!. They come to treat you MUCH more politely. Thank You FilipinaPea, for explaining much about your culture so i do not offend and maybe learn something and understand, enjoy, and maybe adopt in my life too!

Actually, rain making you sick is a thing. Reason being is cause stuff like outright pollution and different types of viruses can be carried by the rain and can essentially "stick" to you once it hits, and a result of your skin being porous by nature, such things can get into your system and thus make you "rain sick". I've had it happen to me a few times, but it is heavily determined by your environment and such. The cleaner your land is, the cleaner the rain will be. I'm a pluviophile by nature, and sick or not, I love the rain. Great vid as always, Sunshine!

I was born in the U.K. and so were both of my grandfathers (my parents were American) so I was raised on the Queen's English and table manners at all times. My guess about why they test the items would be that it started as a way to prove that they were not trying to scam you and sell you broken items. A way to prove that their stores were honest and you could trust them. And over time that became tradition and the reason for it has been forgotten.

After a few weeks. I asked them to call me Buzz because Mr Sargent was making me feel too formal and old. The staff said they could get fired for that...however, they could call me Mr. Buzz and that is acceptable. That is How Mr. Buzz was born. I love the Philippines and the people. I assume spending so much time "testing" products in store is labor cost related. It was common in the US to "test" high cost products in stores 70+ years ago. Back then stores had "sales people" to do this and partly this was to train the buyer on features so they would be more happy with the purchase and be a return customer. But as labor costs increased and manufacturing costs decreases it started to make more sense to save the labor costs of "sales people" and instead just make returning products easier. I first saw this at Fry's Electronics and customers saw it as a plus, a reason to shop there. That trend in retail has continued to the point to enable buying things like shoes and clothes online. People buy, try and can easily return so they feel safe buying and they consume more. This has created a huge stream of opened products being sold in newly created channels. It's all very interesting to me.

The state I live in started dropping the requirement over a year ago and there are still a few people running around with them. I think those are the paranoid ones. It gets less and less everyday though, so you should see a change soon. Hopefully before I get there in February.

People who are still wearing masks do so not because they are paranoid they do it because they have an insight into how airborne diseases spread. Here in Scotland I am seeing more people going back to mask wearing to protect themselves but also to protect vulnerable folk they come into daily contact with. We are now experiencing huge numbers with flu and colds spread within schools and passing on through families. These germs are identical to Covid in how they spread through the air. It is interesting to note that every medical establishment, opticians, spa's you name it have stuck rigidly to wearing masks despite no legal obligation to do so. That there says it all.

Hi Pea, my Philippine wife and I love your channel. We own homes in Florida and the Philippines. I am an LMT in Florida so I have access to mortality rates in both countries. The death rate in Florida is about 5 times the rate in PI. We had vaccines a year before the Philippines did, but almost no one wore masks here. The result was people dying in hospital parking lots because there was no room inside. Masks won't stop the virus from other people, but they do stop the spit droplets from you from infecting your friends. We both had Covid and were very sick. We still wear masks in public and will always protect others by doing so.

Oh Pea you have to help me understand. I've been watching your videos for a couple weeks now because I plan on coming to the Phillipines soon, and your channel is very informative and, you have no problem, "telling it like it is". Love that approach. I met a Filipina online a few months ago, almost 4 months to be exact, and I realize things are gonna be different there from the state of Minnesotas way of life, but this one stumps me. We geg along great and I love her enough to offer my help to her, financially, which I am happy to do. I also have a box full of various things from here that will help her life be easier and more enjoyable, that will by going out in the mail this week. I know that she has no money so I do not expect anything in return other than the many "thank you's" that she gives me all the time. Well yesterday I asked a small favor from her that now looking back I wish I had never asked of her. Omg, this is where I need your help. I asked her if she would write me a letter and send it to me. She has my name and address and I just sent her plenty of money, and if postage is more than $20 for 1 letter in an envelope than I assured her I would cover the cost of it. I told her it could be only 1 or 2 pages on anything. I said for example, write to me what you, you would like to show me or go visit there in the Phillipines during the first week that I am there, or something like that. I wanted something that I could hold in my hand that came directly from the girl I love, yet never met. I could see inside her brain and how it works thru the content of ideas that she wrote down for me. Plus I would see her beautiful penmanship that she claims to have as well. Now after I made the suggestion of a letter from her and explaining multiple times why I would like that from her and explaining once again even more suggestion as to what to write about, I then ended my inexpensive idea of a letter with the words,"that is not asking too much of you, is it Sweetheart? 20 minutes of your time that would mean the absolute world to me!? Would you do this favor for me???........Pea,...what happened next blows me away, and I need the advice from Doctor Phil -a-Pea! She would not answer my question, not ever after 4 different requests for an answer. Instead she would repeatedly question me "why", which I answered again,...and again why. This has been going on for almost 24 hours now and we have not got past the "letter request" yet. She's buzzing my phone here as I write this to you now. Tell me Pea, why will she not answer such simple and minor questions with the possible answer to be either "Yes" or "No I wont"? She constantly interrupts me when we have video calls, and to make things worse, after interrupting me she speaks very slow,...and CONSTANT, never allowing me to speak. I have butted in to her interruption of me and say "Excuse me, ...I am sorry but did the middle of my statement interrupt the beginning of your statemant"???...and she still doesn't understand the importance of proper communication, especially in a new relationship where you both are getting to know each other better. I explain to her that when one is speaking they are not learning. Only when one is listening will they learn, and by being fair to each other by taking turns talking, then listening and answering the questions that were just asked of you, can you have a "healthy conversation" that constantly moves forward from subject to subject. But if someone does not answer the question or questions asked from the other, even after 4 or 5 repeated requests for sn answer, then red flags go up big-time for the person asking, which in this case, was me. Rather than answer a simple "yes" or "no" she had talked about her love for me, how much she will show me once I fo arrive, to statements lkke "I am not a Terrorist" to talks of her not beind goodf enough for me and I should find someond better, to her plans to see if she can borrow money from relatives so she can pay me back every penny I gave her, ALL WHILE I WAS SLEEPING! I woke up to texts a mile long about anything and everything,....except the "yes" or "no" choice, that I was waiting so patiently for. What am I missing in translation here? Why wont the girls there answer such simplest of questions yet instead outright ignore all your requests to an answer so we can, fairly, move on to the next topic of conversation? I dont get it? 25 hours of stagnent conversations and an unnecessary build up of hypothetical, untrue, self thought scinarios of things soooo off topic that you stop and ask yourself, wtf just happened here? I just asked for a 1 or 2 page letter from her? Never again will I be so,.... ...so,....so selfish and self-centered ljke this again! A LETTER?? From her???? What was I thinking? Please Pea,...I mean Please, "Miss" Pea, what am I missing here? I believe in balance, being fair, being equal , and claiming thag I am no better than the next person regardless of if I am a man and you are a woman. That does not matter, ...to me Do most girls there dodge questions like this? And if so,........then why???

The hand gesture, the Filipino wave "to come here" got me in trouble many years ago. (It occurred when I was in boot camp and our company included several Filipinos.) I did the opposite wave and insulted a Filipino young man to the point he was ready to fight me. I didn't understand until his friend explained the wave I did was like calling a dog. I apologized, but he was still pissed off!

How funny. My Filipina video chats with her sister and just hangs up without saying goodbye when she has said what she needs to say. That always makes me smile. And one day I was video chatting with her and she just walked off. I waited. And then I waited. And she didn’t come back. After 5 minutes or so I hung up. Afterwards she explained it was an emergency and she had to go. You have your ways and I love you for it.

I think the shyness of most Filipinas plays a part in the continued mask wearing. It hides their faces so they feel like they are more anonymous. The eating rituals are very different from what most Americans are used to. Loud chewing is definitely part of eating here but all in all it is easy to adjust your thinking. I always remember that I am living in here and not the US so I just accept the difference and enjoy life here. I do always try to carry a extra little rag so when I am talking to people for a little while I always take it out and offer it for any nosebleeds that I might cause. It always gets a smile and makes people relax. Keep up the good work!!

About hanging out on the phone during chats: My Filipina does it all the time. She will usually say BRB (be right back) which in the US means a few minutes of maybe 15. With her, BRB can be up to or more than 60 minutes. But I love her and have grown used to this part of your culture.

Great video. Pea I have lived in Mexico now over a year, Mexico ties with the Philippines when it comes to noise. It is even loud at 2, 3 and up to 5 am depending. Cars with broken mufflers, they take baffles out of mufflers of motorcycles, then rev the motor up so loud just to drive 100 feet. They set in traffic and if it does not move fast enough they will begin to honk horn or with bus blow air horns. Pass an intersection blow the horn. It does not matter I think they teach it to all drives just toot the horn it does not matter. Fireworks are usually for occasions but here everyday is a special occasion just to be heard. Music starts at 5 am if the tortilla making place is open to let everyone know yep we are open. Seems every store has speakers set outside to play music. So Mexico love LOUD NOISE and do not care what time it is or do not care if they disrespect: THE LOUDER THE BETTER. As for face mask they stopped here to but 80% if not more where mask on bus, on motorcycle and Pea even at the beach here in Veracruz. They will be driving by their self and only one in car will have mask on. Have mask in resteraunt, lower to take bite or drink then put it up fast. So it is weird here too. Thank you for video,
