i traveled to Uzbekistan recently, there, the bills are,, similar in color, but denoms... laughably high, 100,000SOM is about $10-11 US, depending on exchange rate..a $2dollar taxi ride, is about 19,000 SOM.. yea,, 11000-1 exchange rate.. break out your calculators folks.. side note- almost NOBODY takes a credit card, and finding places to exchange money..... bring cash, exchange i believe at the airport ( or just get it at the airport for whatever they charge extra _).. stayed in two hotels, neither took a CC... just cash...they will work with you in American Dollars, but, you can easily get ripped off, if you dont ask how much it is in SOMS first, THEN ask if they will take American ( or that $20 hotel will cost you $90-100 ). been there, got hit with that. dont recommend the place.(Uzbek ).

In 2014 I arrived in Manila by myself. I had never traveled out of my home country before. Yet I decided to overcome my concerns and just go there. Everything for me went smoothly. My concerns were not realized. The people there were very friendly welcoming and helpful. I was surprised how much American culture was present there. From our music to our restaurants and the fact that they all spoke english, my experience there was wonderful.

My Philippine experience is pretty crazy, but probably not that unique. My first trip out of the U.S. was the Philippines literally being drawn out of a hat. I Google English speaking countries and picked like 10 or 11. Drew the Philippines, really wanted Australia and/or New Zealand so I put it back in the hat and ended up drawing it 3 for 3 and was like well, Philippines it is I guess! 🤣 I knew nothing about the Philippines so I booked a flight to Manila with zero plans (SOOOOOOO NOT ME!!! I was late 30's and VERY much a planned out person.). I met a filipina OFW in the airport coming home to visit her family. Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!😍 and near my age. I struck up a conversation with her and with in 5 min I knew that she was going to be my wife, IF she'd have me...🤣 Until that moment I'd had ZERO plans to marry or have kids. She said she wasn't interested in a relationship because she had 2 kids (their dad wasn't in the picture anymore) and was settled into her life of a single mom and helping support her parents. I still continued to flirt a little thinking it would go nowhere. She eventually installed whatsapp on my phone and said when I get to my hotel to message her if I want and she'd give me some advice on my trip. 2 days later she invited me to her province and I had a GREAT time exploring there and meeting some of her family and friends. Still no plans for anything more than friends from her. I went home and she went back abroad and we messaged and spoke more each day. She told me she thought she was falling for me 2 months later and I already felt the same. I met her 3 more times in various countries and proposed barely after a year and 3 in person meetings. Married 6 months later. A few months will be 5 years and we both couldn't be happier! She never asked me for a penny until we were planning our wedding, and she was still very hesitant then. She's an amazing woman and she seems to feel the same about me. My story turned more long winded than planned, but what I was getting at is you NEVER know what path life will lead you down. Just keep your mind open and be cautious (same for filipina). Always use your brain and pay attention to your gut feelings, not just voice in your head (or lower) thinking how f'ing hot she is...🤣 Good luck to everyone!!! Find a good filipina and you'll never be happier!

I lived overseas for 20 years - mostly in Asian countries - and I can say that meeting people should be the least of your worries. I think it's a lot easier to meet westerners abroad than it is to meet them when you're in your home country. I think the reason being that you already have something rather big in common with one another - you both made the leap. Sure it gets repetitive at times having the same "Where you from... What brings you here.... " type conversations. But you will certainly find it easy to make friends with them as well as the locals.

Forget about alone time, EVERYWHERE we went, Family, Friends and distant Relatives were with us. You will end up paying for EVERYTHING! Meals, entrance to attractions, hotels and transportation, I mean everywhere! The good part, I was a King, anything I wanted, her or her family was there with food, water or even a napkins. Yes, I did not shop around, but I’m more than happy with my life choice to marry her (and her family!).

Practical and correct advice. Visiting Philippines can be frustrating due to delays, out of stock and "Filipino time". What Pea said about accepting even embracing a slower laid back pace and unexpected experiences is critical. After visiting Cebu for 25+ years I instantly reset to a slower and somewhat chaotic life style and have learned to even enjoy it.

Eh. I wasn't too fussed about the traffic when I visited Cebu. The fact I'd spent some months already in China at that point helped a lot. Going direct from civilized traffic with road laws to "anything is legal so long as no-one dies" traffic would be a big jump. But experiencing "yes, there are road laws, but only when convenient" traffic first helps the transition.

The traveling between places was horrible especially, I remember I drove from Ohio to New Orleans in less than 15 hours. I've made two trips to the Philippines, and both times I relied on public transportation. Traffic in Manila and Cebu is INSANE. I commented to a Filipino friend that the Philippines has similar markings on the roads to what we have in the US -- lines to mark lanes and where to stop for traffic lights and so on. But in the Philippines, they're just for decoration. No one pays any attention to them. In the provinces the roads are pretty empty, but if you're in a car you'll regularly find yourself overtaking a tricycle (motorcycle with a sort of side car) or bicycles in the road or other slow-moving vehicles, and it's apparently routine to just beep at them, they pull a little to the side, and you go around them. If I end up moving there, it's going to be quite a learning experience to learn to drive.

Awesome advice to first time visitors. It's all here. I first visited Philippines as a solo traveler in 1999. I met my future wife and returned dozens of times in the coming years whilst we were dating and trying to arrange a fiancé visa for the UK. She came to the UK a few years later and we got married (we just had our 20th anniversary!). Since then, we moved back to the Philippines where I lived for 7 years and we adopted our son. We moved to Australia in 2016 and that's where we live now. We have returned home (yes, I think of it as home) a number of times to visit family. Honestly, I would much rather live there if only I could earn a decent wage. The most important thing I would say is to be patient, polite and respectful. Anger and tantrums won't help and you'll just end up embarrassing yourself and those around you. Another piece of advice I'd give is don't try sarcasm, satirical, ironic or dead-pan humour as the majority of Filipino's just won't get it and they'll take you literally. Filipino's generally appreciate a more innocent and direct type of humour such as slapstick or gentle & playful teasing.

I agree with anger and tantrums. You will find yourself that you are the only one acting that way, while the rest of the people around are enjoying their time or more appreciative, instead of complaining and showing frustration.

I found the remaining calm hard for the first week, as we’re so used to how efficient 1st world countries are. We’re also still stressed from our busy Western lifestyles. But after about 1 week, I learned to just let things go and. It be angry about what I can’t control and change and I actually felt so much better. Then you start to understand why the locals are so laid back. They have no control over how things run there. So why should they rip their hair out and stress about it. Great country. I would love to visit again! ❤❤❤

Pea, just got back from my first month ever in Cebu. I went as a single traveler. No girlfriend. I had an AMAZING time! The country is beautiful, weather warm but the best part hands down was the people. There really is no way to prepare yourself for how friendly locals are towards foreigners, especially Americans. I was asked many questions, like why I choose to visit the Philippines! If you're going to visit the country for the first time, understand you're going to be charged more than locals. But it's so cheap, it's not a big deal. I agree with Pea, if you want to meet a girlfriend there, wait till you get there. Meet someone "organically" meaning not online. Actually go up and talk to a Filipina (Don't be creepy) you'll meet some amazing people that way. Cebu was 100% perfect for me. Big city but with all more rural areas to explore. Finally, Pea, I want to thank you for your advice over the last year. I wouldn't have tried the Philippines without your information.

Since I left the PI in 1980 when I was 12 I came back alone in 2010 for the first time since I left. I am glad I came back alone, gave me the freedom of mobility of doing things when and where I want. I went back to where I was born to start with, Sangley Point area/Cavite City and ran into some friend's cousins who were looking at me weird. They finally approached me and said, I think I know you! Then when everything clicked with us, it was like I never left. They called my old friends that happened to be in the area still and we were all up for 2 days catching up. Then about a week later I went to Dumaguete and ran into my now wife at a coffee shop. Which upon first meeting she told me to get lost. LOL but ran into her again a day or so later and there is started or ended pending your point of view. So I brought with me my first trip, 3K US. Only spent 2K. But that was mostly because I knew not to get caught up in what seemed the cheap prices because in the long run you will spend more.

Good advice! It seem like the looong flight would give people the hint that "we're not in Kansas anymore." But I guess I forget sometimes that some folks expect other countries to be just like their hometown, and aren't used to being patient and flexible. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ You do manage to teach everyone that lesson with patience and humor. 👍🏼😊👍🏼 Keep up the good work! I know that you are making a lot of people's Philippines experience much better! Take good care!

Very good video. Philippines time is like Latin American time. That is easily addressed when setting boundaries which appears to be the key when melding any cultures. I have travelled a lot and have learned to adapt. The best example is traveling to the French islands in the Caribbean where Americans are not well liked and accepted. I remember getting off a cruise ship in St. Barts and no taxis were taking passengers. I walked up to a taxi with my gf and 4 nurse companions. I said Good morning in French and gave a destination in French. We were the first to leave. The same is true in almost every culture. Providing an effort goes a long way. Your advice on meeting many women on social media is spot on. Every Filipina is trying to stake a claim on a foreigner and doing it with many foreigners. I have many friends who I advise because they are naive. They all know now to state from the beginning that they are only interested in friendship and won't consider taking any conversation to a higher level until two weeks before arriving. They all know that they don't want to meet a Filipina or her family at the airport. They also know not to announce their arrival date and will make any contacts after their arrival. This way they control what they want to do as a tourist beforehand and if they want a companion for any part of their trip. This is important as many are also exploring retirement options for their second trip. Keep up the free flowing advice videos with the comedy intertwined. I would still love to see a few videos that are complete comedic sketches and spoofs that can hilariously show the issues foreigners experience and must avoid. The downfall is the amount of editing. Magandang gabi.

Hey pea my beautiful friend, most westerners, especially from the United States are lazy, and don't do their do deligence. The first time that I came to the Philippines, I did it by just doing my own research and always keeping myself updated. Unfortunately, most western people don't even have a patience meter. Everyone is always in a hurry to go nowhere. I really never understood that. Since living here in the Philippines, I had already had a lot of patience, but now, my patience meter has quadrupled. When someone asked what time it is, I say daytime, hahaha hahaha hahaha 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂. Hopefully, people who are coming here for the first time, will do their research, go through your awesome videos, and be prepared to have a great time. Because it really is better in the Philippines. Thank you pea my dear friend for sharing this awesome video. Please stay safe and healthy, and God bless you and your beautiful family always.😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I've mosty been in Cebu and Lapu-Lapu city and the only "problems" I encountered were rooster noise, mosquitos and headbangs in the jeepney. Overall, The Philippines is a wonderful place for holidays!👌 Although I would recommend a local guide for a smoother experience. I also collected one of those pretty 200 pesos bills with a Tarsier on it.😄 Never knew they were so rare.

I did everything “wrong” for my first trip: I met someone in advance (even though I wasn’t even looking and wasn’t on a dating site. I fell in love with the first Filippina I met. I went to Manila (in my defense that is the closest airport to where she lived). I planned for restaurant visits and specific sightseeing places (none of those happened) I spent the entire time, more or less, meeting family, friends, neighbours, and going to places I’d never have gone to in my own. But you know what? It was still the best vacation I’ve ever had.

I’ve been dreaming of traveling to the Philippines for some time now. The daunting part of it for me is not really about arriving in a new country for the first time, but about dealing with the plane/airport and leaving the US for the first time. My intentions are primarily to experience your beautiful country/culture and to hopefully find a wife. If anyone has some good advice about leaving America for the first time and how to best avoid meeting the wrong people after arriving, I believe my email will come up when you click the L icon. Otherwise, I suppose it’s easier to just reply to this comment. I would certainly appreciate anyone who’s willing to help. And since I’m commenting on this video, I would also like to add that miss pea is looking very nice today. I always appreciate your advice and the format of your videos. Long time fan. -Luke C.

UK here not America, but please stay away from anyone who wants money from you, and say no. Otherwise it's just a friendly nation, in general you won't have much trouble, very welcoming. Don't carry a lot when you go out, leave it all safe and locked up. There are thieves out there like any place, but not a huge issue. Just play smart and don't stroll around like an idiot carrying your entire wealth or something, keep travel bag to your front against your chest if you need one so you always have eyes on it. Photocopy your passport and get it laminated if you can. Use as backup if ever needed. Get a SIM card in the airport to avoid getting one later. Don't pack much, you probably won't need it. A t-shirt, socks and underwear for each day, few shorts and a pair of pants and you're pretty much good to go, obviously barring your own personal stuff. Really though half my luggage was dead weight and I couldn't return with many goods since I packed that thing to the brim initially. Sunscreen high SPF, buy at home and take with you. Mosquito spray just in case, depends where you go but you shouldn't see too many in tourist spots and bigger places. Taxi's will try and overcharge, would recommend apps like grab/joyride if they work at the time. Stay away from ice. Leave most of your electronics at home, not only is it a hassle at airport but taking something like a laptop or whatever just detracts from your trip. Airport wise I mean it depends on your airport but most of your problems will be your home country as most checks are done before your flight to the destination. Once you've done your home countries it'll be the same or less strict coming back. I'd recommend chatting to one or two people from the Philippines if you can beforehand. Even as friends it's nice to have a local to throw a text at if you ever need to, and most of them probably would show you around a little if you were interested in that rather than exploring independently at first. Don't expect it to be America and just go with the flow. I personally am a walker and people watcher, just visiting and walking around can be quite a great experience for me, regardless of where I go. And I'm sure you'll bump into people that want to chat with you. I personally want my space sometimes so I throw in some earphones lol. I wish I could comment on the wife part but I unfortunately do not travel for women, at least in terms of looking to hook up with one (no particular reason, it'll happen when it happens). I'd take my time my dude and don't jump for the first one you see, there is no rush. I can tell you personally all the Filipinas I know that I had no intention of meeting have been the friendliest, motivated and high spirited people I've had the pleasure to know. They are not all saints but honestly find the one that fits; where your brains just meld together and work on the same wavelengths, you'll get there. Relax and chill, take it all as it comes, it is what it is. That's the way to live. Be open for anything and for plans to change, try to appreciate where you are and its differences, big and small. You got it 👍 now start planning the flight, those things get expensive And yes you got me, I don't know why I watch these videos either. Pea is just like a little spark of joy and that's good enough 🐸

Pea: Great information on this one. I really wish I could afford to swing the bat at going to the Philippines. I really relish the idea of a really laid back happy society and style of living. I can see some people planning their time in the Philippines if they are on a 2 or 3 week holiday. But if you are an Expat and planning to stay for any real length of time, yeah, better get used to things going a whole lot slower than you planned. For me, I really want to go to the Philippines for a STAYCATION, get there and stay there! For all those that aren't a Patreon yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Pea's Patreon page is awesome.

It's so funny because much of everything you say will be forgotten in a few minutes by someone whose never been to the Philippines. But to someone who knows, every little thing you say makes sense. I don't speak much Tagalog, mostly Waray but many words are the same. It's really funny whenever I say something in Tagalog or Waray because the first reaction is usually school girl laughter and giggles when they here a westerner speak the language. They really get a kick out of it. When it comes to my wife, she's very strict about proper pronunciation with me but I'm certain there's still a little foreign accent. Don't try to use american cash unless it's brand new condition. They'll put it under a light and use a magnifying glass if possible. It's not where you go or what you want to see there as much as it's spending a lot of time with people. That's the real beauty of the Philippines. The people. They all want to know as much about you as you want to know about them. Amazing different cultures there. Slow down, stop and talk to everyone if you can. You'll learn a lot about yourself.

Pea sums it up nicely. Can’t stress enough the importance of rushing in slowly when it comes to finding a long term love of your life. DO NOT COMMIT TO ANY ONE PROSPECT WHEN YOU FIRST ARRIVE. Most will show interest in you and you are hyped up and ready to go - be patient and let them know up front “I’m keeping my options open - atm”. Resist the urge and get yr mind above yr belt! You will find many, many women who you think would be suitable but be a good student and do yr homework. You could end up making both of you unhappy in the long run. TAKE YOUR TIME!!
