Bruce is still a cultural icon today. Revealing his drug problem would have detracted from his superstar image even five years ago. However, the man was human and his back injury would have plagued him for the remainder of his life. If Bruce had lived even five more years, he would have been hurting pretty bad. The man was human, even though a superb athlete. Sports injuries end many careers. The pain would have only escalated with age. He needed his pain killers just to take the hard edge off his injury and once he started he couldn't just stop. Tragic as it might have been, it was the price he paid for pushing his body to the limit.

I took JKD from his predecessors and I’m honored to have done such. This is a touchy subject for me as I am a wounded combat veteran with addiction issues myself. Warriors tend to use substances to escape what they can’t face at the moment of insecurity to their souls (PTSD). He grew up hard and fast. The part (although disputed) on Bruce lee the dragon story where he saves his son from the curse is a good example. He gained peace from fighting his demons and coming out on top. After that, nothing mattered to him but going home to see his family. He died shortly after unfortunately.

Addiction makes for a very sad life. Addicts (myself included) cry when they talk about the shame, guilt, isolation, damage to relationships, and self loathing that it causes. Maestroland - When you become a famous celebrity, you know for a fact that you are now in the spot light. It is the price of fame & you have to take the good with the bad. Bruce Lee was a glory hound & craved fame. If he didn't want people to know he was a drug addict, he shouldn't have done drugs. Weed is not a big deal, but apparently he was a coke fiend too. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions have died, been kidnapped & disappeared to smuggle people like Brucie & Charlie Sheen their fix. People that demand that supply bear some part of the guilt for that. Brucie was painted as some noble saint, yet in reality, he was always a sheep following the in-crowd to stand out for a role in Hollyood. His aura of nobility is gone, for me at least.

People have used drugs for recreation as well as for other purposes for thousands of years. It's only 'frowned upon' in modern times because of social engineering by governments who have created a vastly profitable 'war on drugs' These letters should be testament to Bruce's dedication to health and fitness and prove that drugs don't make a person lazy or a criminal, that is the individual who does that regardless. I heard in 1990's that Bruce took hash and cocaine but I didn't know he took LSD and psilocybin. That would have really helped expand his personal philosophies. Ugh no. Drugs are inherently dangerous. It’s not all about “profit” either. Sure, you can take them in a “safer” way. Medical use, etc. but drugs like cocaine are not safe, and drugs that alter your perception of reality can have an extremely damage effect on people and can exasperate pre existing problems. Anything that is altering the way your body functions on a chemical level can be either dangerous or lethal unless it is to fix something or improve something. You are being reckless with what you are saying. Some people have hyper sensitivity to various substances and there is no way to tell until it is to late. Bruce was already a very abstract thinker long before he was introduced to drugs, firstly by Steve McQueen. The drugs ultimately did contribute to his death even if they were not the sole factor.

What you've got to remember is in the 60s/70s in the arts, music, movie and performance world people genuinely believed cocaine was good for you in increasing productivity and creative output, and acid for spiritual awakenings (which happened to be something Bruce was searching for his whole life) and grass possibly for in Bruce's case muscle relaxation and winding down after an intense workout. The man wanted to be at his optimal prowess and perhaps this was a short phase in his life. Bruce Lee was a constant searcher for truth and dipped his toes in almost everything and drugs play such a minute minor role in every incredible achievement he made. The impact he had on martial arts, opening the door for asians in hollywood etc was and still is unabated.

Nope! A lot of people in those circles KNEW these drugs were dangerous and could kill you or cause adverse effects on folx too. They were more so being rebellious, experimental and counter cultural about things. They knew the risks. The same happened with Heroine, folx claimed that drug increases productivity, but folx also knew it was dangerous, addictive, and it really started killing people, yet, they kept taking it saying, “It made Miles Davis a genius”. As far as marijuana, folx had known for decades that it had medicinal properties as does acid, but the way folx were taking it then, wasn’t really healthy, and a lot of them knew it wasn’t optimal, but they valued experimentation and experience over safety. A lot of them were influenced by foolish rhetoric of the counter cultural drug culture.

It's incredibly easy to overdose on coke by accident. Even longtime cokeheads make mistakes with dosage sometimes. My dad was a longtime cokehead and I grew up around it. Although, you can functionally use coke your entire life in a "healthy" way (aside from maybe damaging your nose), a killing dose is actually not far from a normal "good time" for those who've built tolerance. Seems Bruce was hitting it hard once he began. The day he died he was with that woman in her home, wouldn't be surprised if his death was actually a coke overdose from partying with the woman. Also, if you mix alcohol with cocaine it creates a stronger effect that's really pleasurable, but more dangerous and many people coming down from the high will overdose in their sleep. Of course, Bruce being Bruce his family and everyone involved would want to avoid the scandal and harming his legacy so it's only natural they'd want to cover this up. With the impact Bruce had on the world, it was for the best because society was still immature regarding drug use and conversations surrounding it. I think society has matured enough now where we can talk about these things in an honest way without harming Bruce's legacy. It was important-- especially for the time-- that Bruce remained a deity to his fans.. especially all the little kids who saw him as a super hero.

It’s so easy to have a heart attack on coke as well. It’s obviously not good for your heart to be stimulated to beating 3 times faster than normal. I tried crack once and hated it it felt like my heart was going to burst out my chest.
@tristarperfecta10612 жыл бұрын
You are very misinformed. It does alot more damage than just to your nose. There is nothing healthy about any cociane use. Lol. And people don't overdose from mixing cocaine with alcohol. That happens with benzos and opiates. If a person mixes alcohol with cocaine, they can just go longer. Take it from a retired pro. It frustrates me when people speak about drugs but don't know what they're talking about. The reason drug addiction is so bad in this country is because of the lack of education.

I was shocked to learn he removed his sweat glands from his armpits(btw I had no idea you could even do that) because he felt it looks ugly on camera when you sweat through your shirt there. It turns out it was really dumb move by him. 2 months before he died he had a seizure episode that was overlooked. What happened he was doing dubbing for Enter the dragon and they turned off air conditioning inside studio so there was no noise being picked up, after 30 minutes the place was like sauna, he fainted and they called an ambulance. Ask any competitive body builder: when they are ripped to single digit body fat for competition, they don't feel well - and it can only be maintained for a short time. We regularly have body builders fainting on stage, being rushed to hospital and even dropping dead. Factor in Bruce's superhuman schedule of training, directing, and being totally 'on' for everybody from co-stars to the tea-lady - all at an energy depleted, physically drained, emotionally exhausted four percent body fat. Throw the distinct possibility of a steroids cycle, and even diuretics into the mix. Then consider the singular importance of this breakout movie to this singularly driven elite level athlete and film artist. I would say that this would be impossible to achieve, by anybody, even Bruce Lee, without a stimulant such as cocaine or amphetamine. And I'm guessing after the show, he didn't take a breath, re-feed, back off the stimulants, and have the 'off season' like a body builder would do after having abused themselves into competitively dangerous levels of physical definition. I would say yes: Bruce would do absolutely anything to be the absolute best: and he was, and remains, the absolute best - right across the board. It reminds me of Electric Ladyland - the absolute guitar/rock album that pretty much killed Hendrix. Yep: I'd say Enter the Dragon was Bruce Lee's Electric Ladyland. A singular Masterpiece standing alone, timeless, ageless, unsurpassed - like a monolith. Magnificent!

@ryanjacobson25082 жыл бұрын
Bruce was looking dangerously gaunt and jaundiced by the time of Enter the Dragon. His skin tone and body fat levels looked much healthier in his earlier movies. Abuse of agents used to achieve low body fat (including "upper" drugs, steroids, Diuretics etc.) is very dangerous and has killed many body builders. By the time he died his body was likely quite vulnerable.

Bruce Lee experimented with mind, body and spirit. He wasn't just a martial artist, but someone here on a mission to transcend. He took a lot of risks. He was kind of a hippy, too. I am not at all surprised at this. Takes absolutely nothing away, it actually adds to his mystique.

It had to do with their health and life insurance policy. That's why Linda kept quiet about it. She basically committed perjury stating he had no drug issues etc. Otherwise that policy would have not paid out. Can't fault her for doing so. So, many people do that themselves and aren't honest. Plus, she lost the love of her life. I'm sure she was devastated and only thinking of getting his body back home to the USA. As well as their children.

Do you really think that people would respect someone so much if they knew he/she was far from the person he/she was painted to be for decades? Bruce Lee was always painted as some super dedicated & disciplined martial arts prodigy. Well, now we know he was not at all very disciplined. He was a coke addict & liked to dabble in various drugs. He was just like any other Hollywood actor, posing as whatever he had to, to get a role in a Hollywood movie. He was a sell out. I know nobody is perfect, but Bruce Lee was painted as such. Things have changed since the early seventies. Both drugs and kung fu have gone global, and for both a good teacher is needed. If you meditate you have little reason to pursue drug experimentation. Stick with kung-fu, it's good for what ales ya. On the subject of Kung-Fu. If you haven't done so already, find a good teacher and stay with him long enough for you to become the teacher. It's only been since 1938 that this world has been soo ignorant of true medicine pharmacopeia. Even our physicians and other people in the medical community are ignorant to real practice due to the Rockefeller and Dupont etc families taking over industry as well as medical school board. Changing the normal practice from a less harmful more wholesome practice to now a vigorous and drastic practice. Dr's give people soo many pills, but many hardly are able to talk to patients of their eating sleeping and physical activity habits. Probably 90% of our medical community has no idea about the 13th body system which regulates all other body systems. 😉 it works with cannabis because we have compounds we all make that are similar to the plant. Thise compounds we produce heals us daily and we use then to stay healthier naturally. ALL media and ALL political parties, are playing us all for fools.
