The one finger punch is what's commonly refered to as the one inch punch. Lee would extend his finger to his intended target, and he would push forward making a fist which became the one inch punch. You've seen it already, he's just calling it by a different name. I know this because when I practiced martial arts I learned from a Jeet Kun Do practitioner who was a Bruce Lee nut and he sometimes refered to it as the one finger punch.

I've seen all these videos years ago, I am 67 and I've been a Bruce Lee fan since he played Kato! When I was in the Marine Corps and I was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Millington, TN there was a theater in town that would have Bruce Lee marathons and for 50 cents we could watch Bruce Lee for the entire day! I have read everything written about him and I even was able to duplicate his 1 inch punch, can't do it now but my friends were impressed back then!

Nice one mate, Bruce inspired us all didnt he, i also mastered that one inch punch, i would train with a iron bar with a weight on the top, holding the bar with your fist sideways, would do a 100 snap punches a day, but the power would also come from your hips, I could also do thumb push ups, could never do the one fingure, also would train to kick a light bulb hanging from ceiling, those were the days...also 68 here

I thought he was greatest hero without mask!! Like all young boys who wants to be like their Heroes, I tried to do what Bruce did ,I didn't have the training necessary to have the skills until I was 17. I too learned the 1 inch 👊 & even mollified it to be more explosive via physically scientific research by using the weight of my own body!! I could never say I'm than those who inspired me. The story I'm about to relate is based on true events. As I recall, I only mentioned it once before online and then I was attacked for making things up so forth. Back in the late 60s my brother Ron works for a private ambulance service by the name of Goodhew. They are long since out of business. On a new 24-hour shift he ended up getting a new partner and they started talking about sports and this gentleman Larry mentioned that he taught Kenpo Karate at Ed Parker's Studio on Santa Monica Boulevard. Eventually became roommates. His name was Larry Hartsell. Pretty tough dude I believe he was a second degree black belt? Sometime later he told my brother that he started taking private lessons with this little Chinese guy. This is just a guess but I think Larry was somewhere around 6 ft 1 and 210 lb? I may be a little bit off. The point I want to make is he told my brother Ron that they would get into sparring sessions and he could hardly lay a glove on Bruce because of his speed. My brother got to meet Bruce before he became really famous. This was about the time of the filming of Marlow starring James Garner. Larry invited my brother Ron to Bruce's birthday party at the Golden Dragon in Los Angeles Chinatown. Ron told me that Bruce was super friendly and polite. He walked up to Larry and my brother and said: " who is your friend". Of course I didn't have cell phone cameras back then and I have no video / camera evidence of the incident. You can look up Larry Hartsell on the web and he had done some training with Judo Gene lebell. For the record I am not a worshiper of Bruce Lee, a fan yes, but not a fanatic. However, I do believe he could defeat 99% of Fighters under 175 lb. Just my opinion.

I've heard of Larry Hartsell he was one of Bruce Lee's original students and he was one of the first to participate in a first ever kickboxing match in 1970 and won using JKD techniques.

I believe Dan Inosanto said that if he was in an out-of-control bar fight and needed to make it to the door in one piece, he'd want two guys with him: One was Bruce; the other was Larry. Nuff said. I remember a martial artist talking about rolling with Larry and Rickson and some other high-level grappler whose name I don't recall. He said Rickson would tie him up and tap him and he wouldn't know what happened; the grappler I don't recall was smaller and the guy said rolling with him was like being run over by a fast-moving sports car; Larry was bigger and the guy said it was like being run over by a slower-moving truck except the truck kept backing up to finish the job, lol.

Writer John Little also recounted stories from people who knew Bruce personally and trained with him, and he said they told him the same thing about Bruce. That he was so fast they couldn't do anything to him. He recounted a story of the fight Bruce had with a Japanese karate black belt which was witnessed by Jesse Glover, and Ed Hart who was the time keeper. The karate black belt got laid out within 11 seconds. Bruce was on a whole 'nother level back in the day. Like Larry, other Ed Parker students defected to learn from Bruce.

I was 14 when Bruce Lee died. I was a martial arts fanatic back then, but none of the movie theaters near me would show Bruce Lee's movies like Fist of Fury. Then, Enter the Dragon came out. I hiked to the shopping mall where a theater was playing that movie. It was a Saturday, and I sat straight through the noon, 3pm and 6pm showings! Young people today have no idea what it was like to see that movie on the big screen, the effect was absolutely tremendous. The theater didn't tear my ticket, so I went *back* to it on Sunday and watched Enter the Dragon twice more! My mom thought I'd lost my mind... :)

I loved that movie when I was 14 years old and I still remember watching amazed at his speed and his power and to see his demonstrations where he did it in real life was all I needed to be completely hooked on him and his films. It saddens me that Quentin Tarantino tried to portray him in such a negative light and false manner but I haven’t seen that movie and now I don’t have to bother watching it or any more of Tarantino movies, the people who knew him in life were pretty much all of the same opinion about him that he was a true artist and very passionate and extremely talented, because to be as good as he was at his craft one must truly love what he does and it was apparent that he did and try to portray him anything less is an insult and an affront to his fans his life and his legacy and shows the world what a true pos Quentin Tarantino really is

As far as the world record in breaking boards with kicks, bear in mind that the boards Bruce kicked are hanging, their not being held solidly top and bottom. Lots more snap and power required to break them.

I mean, if you want to know if a martial art or martial artist is legit, the ultimate test is to try it. I was fascinated by Bruce Lee, and also living a life where I knew I couldn't dedicate myself to everything and learn his style, but I thought about the quote, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." So I focused on Bruce Lee's side kick. I practiced it 10,000 times. I watched every source of video I could find, studied his movement, footwork, body position. Many years later, I found myself teaching at a school for 'bad kids', basically. I hadn't done this kick for years. They had a punching bag, and the kids were going at it. I was like, "How about this?", and I knocked the punching bag stand over. Bruce Lee's technique was legit. If a 43 year old dude can do that, based on the technique that I learned by carefully practicing that kick performed by the man... forget his physical prowess. He focused on a small set of moves, and that was in my opinion the key. We'll never have the 'real fight' footage, because it never happened. I will say that I don't think most punks in the street are ready for that. He may or may not been able to compete in the professional circuit - I'll always wonder about that. A lot of people will always wonder about that. Still, his techniques, I learned one. I practiced it 10,000 times, and it's legit.

there's no doubt in my mind with Bruces kicks being so explosive and fast in some of those old demonstrations that if he kicked someone in the head or throat that it could potentially be lethal. To this day I have never seen anyone kick like Bruce in some of those displays wth the guy standing in from of him in the gi. The fact that he only broke 4 boards doesn't matter. The guy was holding them hanging down loosely with one hand. He literally kicked through those boards as if they were hanging in the air. That would be very very hard to pull off.

If you read Bruce Lee: A Life, it makes you respect how far he was able to come, especially from a personality standpoint. Martial arts actually improved him, as he was kind of an immature bully as a young man, and you can see how much of a better person oerson he became as he matured into manhood. He had faults, and I'm sure he was stressed over his money issues at the time( plus the infidelity and cocaine use), but it doesn't take away from what he accomplished.

One thing worth it to notice about Bruce Lee breaking those four boards with a kick, is that the guy is holding them with just one hand; so, that kick has to be really fast to be able to break those boards at the very millisecond it hits them; if not, they will just fly away from the hand of the guy; that kick can break probably eight boards if they were being help by something stronger then a hand.

Bruce died a couple of months before I was born and the very first movie I REMEMBER watching was Enter the Dragon but I'm a realist too - Bruce was human, just a very INSPIRATIONAL human to me. It really bugs me when people take advantage of Bruce's life to get hits on Social Media (Such as the person you mentioned in the video ...) by telling lies. The thing is, I don't blame Bruce Lee fans for believing this person as Bruce has many new fans all the time, ones who don't know the backstory of Bruce so they're "Learning" it from KZbin. I studied goju Ryu while stationed at Loring AFB in the late 70s in Chuck Merriman's organization. I trained as hard as I could to be like Bruce Lee and he was the reason I got interested in karate in the first place...legendary GOAT

Many years ago, back when everything was on video tapes, I once had a clip, that as I remember, was his casting test shoot for Kung Fu, before Caradine got the part. It started off with Bruce going into a western style saloon and him ordering a milk. A load of cowboys took the piss out of him for ordering milk and the next thing a couple of them flew out of the saloon double doors and Bruce and the rest of the cowboys ended up out front of the saloon, with Bruce obviously kicking all their arses. Sadly I lost it years ago and I've never seen it anywhere since, including online.

Weke up and notice that those 5 boards were only being held by 2 fingers which is almost impossible even if you only break 4/5 (Bruce broke all 5 in other demonstrations and also broke 5 taped together and suspended by a string). Bruce Lee broke 12 inches of boards (I may have even heard of 14 inches mentioned in a biography written shortly after his untimely death) that were braced on both sides, the way that they normally are in these types of demonstrations. He was also fond of dropping 2 inch boards and breaking them in the air as James Coburn witnessed and spoke about. The simple physics will tell you that breaking 4/5 boards barely braced, in that they are very free to move away from the force of the kick at the moment of strike is an absolutely astounding feat and explains the effects of Bruce's kicks on various individuals that were his demonstration volunteers, etc.. No two ways about it, Lee was mind-boggling. Cheers.

What I love about your input on the historical context of the life and times of The Greatest and Legendary Martial Artist the Man Of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) Bruce Lee is the truth behind what you’re saying. I’ve followed and studied the history of the legend since around 1970 to include the on film battle between Kato and Robin where Bruce Lee refused to loose again a novice so it was rewritten as a draw. I liked Batman but the Green Hornet had that edge Bruce Lee something never seen before. I need still believe it was cancelled because of his ethnicity. Anywho yeah I started watching Beerdy and was captivated by his storylines he can sell ocean property in Montana lol. But to me a lot of things he started spurring was too far fetched so I began looking for other avenues to find out about and save footage and recording of my Gung Fu superhero and I landed upon one of your stories and been a fan and subscriber ever since, and I dropped the other guy. Keep bringing the noise brother, I say that not because you are Melanin but because you’re a member of the martial arts world.

A one fingered punch might be where you put a box, I used to use a cornflakes (cereal) box. on a table, in front of you and try to hit it with one finger, fast enough, that before it can move away, you punch a hole in it with your finger (I used to use index finger) Another thing I used to do was put out a candle with the draught, or wind from a punch (without hitting the candle and putting it out (that's cheating). You need to be pretty fast to do this but I was only 'ordinarily fast' the sort of fast anyone could do with practice. No where near to Lee's speed. I wonder if these videos of Lee could be AI processed, like a lot of historical footage is being done nowadays that look amazing. Just search for terms like 'California colourised enhanced' Maybe Lee fans could crowdfund the processing. Anyway, interesting video.
