I live in the same county where the Hewell Pottery jack o lanterns are made. They are made of Georgia red clay and come in different sizes and shapes. Everyone had one on their porch during Halloween growing up,they still make them, but they don't seem to be as popular now. I absolutely love them and buy everyone I come across at yard sales and estate sales, usually for a dollar or two. Last month I was at a sale and they gave me 2 because they didn't think anyone would buy them. I have around 30 now and put them all out every Halloween, they look awesome all lit up on the porch! My kids love them to. I have several that don't have hats, so I just drop a mum in them and they look super cute with their floral hairdos 🎃

The cookie things you mentioned are rosette irons. You were right it has a metal stick like handle. The cookies are very thin Christmas delicacy. The irons are dipped in a batter then fried in lard.
