When i was 10, I wanted to go back to the 70's, when I was 20, i wanted to go back to the 80's, when I was 30, I wanted to go back to the 90's, now I'm 40, I wouldn't ever want to be in this generation. wow this put me in my feels. SO many Peter Gatien parties. I'm a Boston party Kid, so every trip to New York was so cool, we'd pack so much mayhem into a week or weekend. Skatingboarding, clubs, Guinness binges, party favors, Satellite records, 12 inch Dance Trax, shopping, punk squats.. hardcore shows. Good Times long gone. Thank you Frankie for your incredible contribution and heart. Seen him so many times. best Frankie story: one time my friend tore into my driveway out of nowhere and was like, hurry up get in! and we drove like mad down to providence... walked in the club and it was just Frankie and a handful of people on his Birthday at the living room. Like what? Some girl yelled, "Frankie Bones, you SUCK!" then he ripped it. for like nobody. I danced by myself for two hours and we drove home. I have no idea. lol.

Bones for me was the most influential person from my neighborhood, I went to school with Denis The menace back when he was a skate boarder and I looked up to that whole crew, Bones, Adam, Heather were like my own neighborhood celebrities. I was a few years younger but me and my friends used to cruse down 86th street listening to Freestyle music but Thursday nights were special because Bones was introducing us to techno music live from a radio station called B91 fm from Kingsborough community collage and we sometimes had to drive to Manhattan beach to get better reception but that got my crew started at hanging out on the Bay across the water from el grecos. Best summers of my life until the plum beach raves which were where rave life started for me and my friends. I was A DJ and I even produce music as a hobby as I have been using Logic Pro since it was Logic Platinum in 1997 and it was always DJ Frankie Bones who was my biggest inspiration.

We were playing club-klub music since 1966 MFSB, Love Is The Message. The first true Club/Klub song before disco. It was called club-klub, because it was played at nightclub's or niteclub's. We had house parties and basement parties those were called, "House Parties". Chicago got the musi from these New York transplants Frankie Knuckles and Robert Williams they launched House Music there and Robert Williams recreated Paradise Garage and The Loft out Chicago.

The Roxy was a roller rink and then a Club. It was across from Studio 54. 1018 was formerly The Funhouse.

The sound systems were installed by RLA (Richard Long & Associates), Richard Long did the installation at The Warehouse Robert Williams returned to New York City to get Richard Long to install the sound system like Paradise Garage. All thos clubs were copies of New York clubs.

The name "House", was created from Chicago the name of it was Club/Klub and that was long before any name House. We were playing it since the early 1960's. Frankie Knuckles is from The Bronx, Robert Williams owner of The Warehouse is from New York. David Mancuso had private parties long before Chicago had any House or any name of it. David Manuso's Loft started 1972.

Big up Frankie. I remember seeing Grandmaster Flash perform 'White Lines' at the Roxy in 84'... in the audience was Blondie, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. I lived in NY in the 80's and 90's and was a bit of a club kid, lived in Brooklyn before it became a lame parody of itself w/ the really non hip, hipster wankers. The first official House music club in N.Y I remember was a place called Black Market' in the West 20's in Manhattan in 1985 but I never hear it mentioned much. The 'Outlaw Parties' of the late 80's on places like the Highline and various venues around Manhattan and on the lower east side were the best for me. Looking back I was lucky enough to have experienced a Golden era in NY in regards to music culture. Great interview, thanks.

First storm rave party I was a year into military service, and missing NYC nightlife. There truly was nothing like it anywhere else. But my boy told me about Storm Rave and I knew we had to go. I only went to 1 rave at that time and that was in the UK countryside, and when I saw the flyer for Storm Rave I knew instantly what it was about. I honestly only remember about half that night. I remember popping a "Bart", which was acid, and that's all she wrote. I woke up, shirtless, laying on the floor of beer covered floor. The next Storm Rave, I swore I wouldn't get so fucked up that I didn't remember anything, so I just drank. No drugs. I'm glad I didn't, got to witness Sven Bath. A night I'll never forget. I also met Adam, Bones, and Heather that 2nd one, but never really connected afterwards since I was in the military and we were in the middle of a war, so I had to go back. I got out in 94, and continued to support the scene till 2000. Opened up my own record shop, and did a few parties w Adam over the years, and well, all good memories.

I was lucky enough to do visuals for frankie at a small party for a friends b day. It was surreal but so glad I got to do it. i knew Frankie was influential to the NY scene but I didnt know most of the story so this was cool to hear those stories. I miss the days of bigger clubs. Not things like brooklyn mirage or whatever but Rocky, tunnel, sound factory. For me, that was when I first started coming to the city. I actually did get to go rollerskating at the roxy before it closed. That place was such a great space.

Frankie is as real as real gets and honest as the day is long. Such a righteous dude. Shopping Sonic Groove on Carmine St back in the day is an experience that will never be recreated. Sunday- closed. Go to church. Adam, Heather, Carlos Tera... they were like a family who recognized the regular party kids and record heads at the clubs and raves. Roxy. Twilo. Save The Robots. Club USA. Tunnel. FunHouse. Sound Factory. Vinyl. Palladium also had Julians Billiards in the same building. Now an NYU dorm.

13:33 Frankie "Shag" Bones @ Dance '89 (Energy) - Raydon Airfield (24-09-1989) Sunday morning 24th This was Energy Dance 89 at Raydon Airfield, Suffolk on September 23, 1989. Charity event put on in aid of the marchioness disaster where all profits were given to the Thames tragedy fund. The event was organised by Tin Tin and Jeremy Taylor , initially it was supposed to be held in Southark Park London but due to pressure from the local council the venue got cancelled at the last minute, the event was then moved on to several other locations which were also stopped and the party finally ended up in an aircraft hanger at Raydon Airfield, Ipswich, Suffolk at dawn on Sunday 24th September 1989. 15000+ people followed in convoy's to attend the party, causing travel chaos along the way. DJ's were Richie Rich, Paul Trouble Anderson, Little Louis Vega, Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold, Jumping Jack Frost, Evil Eddie Richards, Frankie Bones & Fabio, 1989 at Raydon Airfield, Suffolk in England

I'm STILL skating and worked at the Skate Key, skated at Roxy Empire ,and tons of other places. The Disco girl and light fixtures would come down and then retract, and on Sundays the rink was on children's TV. The Roxy also had a Richard Long sound system which was pulled for that Funktion stuff, and it was all over by then..Yes,I still have my DJ/studio gear and that ton of records. Making records from records started with the DJ spinning breaks and then when samplers became affordable...

Great video. I used to throw parties at the same time, my promotion crew was called Mental Unity. I was at almost every storm rave. I always preferred the underground raves in the dirty warehouses. I was with Frankie at a lot of clubs and raves on the east coast. The early 90's was one of the best time of my life. Frankie was the major influence in how we threw our raves.

I remember this one Sonic Groove party in an illegal warehouse, where you had to go to a checkpoint that would tell you where the party is. Once in side they had blackened out all the windows with industrial garbage bags taped over them. A couple hours in, Adam gets on the mike and tells everyone to be quiet for a bit because the cops are outside down stairs (but, “don’t worry cause we locked the doors”, ha!). So everyone just chills for a few minutes and once the cops left, the beat goes on! Really glad I experienced all these many nameless dark warehouses, and also the infamous Lunatarium in Dumbo, and raving inside the Brooklyn Bridge anchorage, the Manhattan 23rd Street Armory, and so on - this will never ever happen again!

so true. i grew up in queens but felt like I spent every weekend in the early 90s at some random warehouse rave, in brooklyn somewhere. half of which woujld get shut down and i'd then run to my car with my friends blasted or high and try to drive home. no gps, no internet. just trial and error. lol

I was 18 going to college in NYC, lived on 11th and B !!… Xenons was pretty close became my neighborhood club😄, got in Studio 54 when it opened for a brief 2nd time?… but Danceteria was the shit! Same the Mudd club, peppermint lounge, CB’s of course, the Limelight was just getting started awesome club!! Not to mention all the after hours dumps!! Walking out the door completely wrung out…seeing all the people GOING to work! 😄A2 is one I remember🤔 Man those were the days!(iam 61 now) And yes, I really miss those days.🤷‍♂️❤️

@jjoker6540 I just turned 50! I’m from Chicago & went to all the underground parties & raves in the early 90’s then moved to NYC in ‘96. Chicago House & Detroit Techno we’re amazing at that time! Moving to NYC I didn’t feel it as much in late 90s but there were still a few spots to party. My first apartment was on 7th st between Ave A & B!! I left NYC in 2021 & man, I watched the City change so much & now it’s unrecognizable! Every warehouse is now a billion dollar home! We’re getting up there in age but music & memories will keep us young! Stay well Bro!

I went energy at Ipswich it actually started at 4am Sunday morning, the reason being the event got busted twice in London so they moved the venue to Ipswich. The car convoy to this event was unbelievable happy days driving to an illegal rave back in the day. I can remember your dj set in Coventry 89 Amnesia house

Going to Tunnel up to 3 times a week during my 20s was some of the best times on my life. NYC was amazing back then, nows it's just neutered and obnoxiously expensive.
