I was fortunate enough to Dj at the Limelight in the late 90's. Being a Techno dj from Houston Texas this was always on my bucket list, So thankful for the opportunity.

I loved the Funhouse, Roseland, the tunnel, Limelight,1018s & list could go on & on. There are no clubs like the ones from back in the days. What a time to be alive.

Thanks Eddie, enjoyed the trip down memory lane, went to many of these clubs in the 90s. My favorite was Palladium which was originally started by Schrager & Rubell after prison. Then purchased by Peter Gatien in the late 80s. In the 90s, the primary entrance of the Tunnel was on the corner of 27th street. Up the block on 27th street was also Sound Factory Bar which became Twilo. Club Exit in the 90s started as Mirage which was a 2K - 4K space. Webster Hall is an iconic NYC club which is still opened as a music venue. The top NYC House DJ’s at these clubs were Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Hex Hector, Louie Vega, Victoria Calderon, David Morales, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Kenny Dope, Junior Sanchez, Frankie Bones, Charlie Casanova, Keoki, Armand Van Heldan, Sasha & Digweed and many others.

I used to hit all those clubs with Jeff Nec back in the day, it was a great time. My favorites were The Fun House when we were teenagers and the Limelight when we were in our 20's. 4D and Tunnel were also fantas-great. The best part of it was that on Friday and Saturday nights they would have live performances of all the star house music talent of the time including Madonna, Planet Patrol, Afrika Bambaataa & the Soul Sonic Force, D-Train and so many more that were awesome. Other camera shy clubs that we used to frequent back in the 80's and early 90's were "10-18" and "Emerald City" and a bunch more that I have trouble recalling the names of due to all the elicit substances we were ingesting at the time. Canarsie rocks the house yo! ;)

Thx for brining me back to the 90’s, Jeff. Especially, your walk through the Funhouse. I spent many nights on that stage. Studio 54, Copa, Latin Quarters, Limelight, Roxy, 10/18, Tunnel, the Saint, Garage, etc were also cool.

I wish these guys who used to have these nightclubs would get together to create another dope NYC nightclub. There’s plenty places to do it. Just need to get it going now. I know I’d surely DJ those events without issue👍🏾😂

LARRY passed in 1992 . There's a party in his honor every years since 1994 !!! I attended a few, even got to talk to one of the owners at one of the parties MEL CHEREN (RIP ,who has 2 documentaries on youtube) and got an autograph for his book about the club ,KEEP ON DANCING. Also before they put the apt building up, they did a gigantic street party (which is up on KZbin) for the dedication. I've had thoughts of snatching a KING STREET since back in the late 1980's after the Paradise Garage closed but didn't wanna get in trouble as it's considered vandalism, but others did DO IT, for the first couple of years after 1987 (September of 87) , the city couldn't KEEP A STREET NAME UP, people kept taking them. The other owner was MICHAEL BRODY, and the "club closed for the following 2 reasons, 1) COMPLAINTS, on the western side of KING STREET is residential and their complaints got too much for the City not to do anything about it. 2) MICHAEL BRODY had HIV/AIDS and was dying. Also, THAT I KNOW OF, Larry is the first club dj to sing on a record : REAL LOVE by MAN FRIDAY feat LARRY LEVAN.

My dads long time friend who I was staying with in 2002 was a huge fan of Larry’s and he had his photo ID from Paradise Garage along with his partner who had passed from the same thing over a decade or so prior. Sad. He told me all about NYC nightlife and showed me pics of Danny Tenaglia’s spaceship DJ booth I dont remeber seeing it but I did attend several of Danny’s “Be Yourself” parties at Vinyl/Arc before leaving NYC in 2003.

I moved to Manhattan in summer of 2002 and got a job as a promoter at Exit under Danny M. /Michael Julian for Sexy Saturdays and one party in particular was for Perpetual Dreamer “Sound of Goodbye” . Attended many parties at SoundFactory, Roxy, ChinaClub. Also promoter for John Blair/Beto Sutter mainly at ROXY and a few other Gay Circuit events. Lots of fun but by this time NYC nightlife had been changing rapidly under the rule of Giuliani so it was a strange time especially after 9/11. Most memorable events were Paul Van Dyk @ Roxy w/Luis Diaz opening and the time I met Paul Oakenfold at the Bunkka CD release party at Virgin Mega Store in Union Square and was funny because Iwas promoting his party at Exit that weekend so when he asked if I was coming to the party I told him I was promoting it and opened my messenger bag and showed him the huge pile of flyers lol. He laughed and was like yeah man! He told me to come to the booth n hang out for a bit Was definitely a highlight for me in my NYC days. Its almost hard to believe its been almost 23 years this fall. Time sure flies.

I was there at the height of Studio 54 And for the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want to go there when right around the corner You had T Scott playing music in better days am I right? Studio 54 made no sense for the real party people of that era, studio was coke driven Better days was music driven, “turn this muthafuka out “ the dance floor would be screaming, referring to the Dj T Scot ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ now thats keeping it real real am I right children!!?

I been to the LIMELIGHT once, it was a special event on That Night called DISCO 2000 , and in one of the upper cubby hole type rooms were a separate party ... if you could called THAT... in the middle of a postage stamp sized dance floor were a group in a circle, i thought someone was Break Dancing ... it was 2 men on their knees sucking anyone who wanted it ☹, i left , even after paying to get in and being there maybe an hour. One short dude followed me as i was leaving yelling PLZ STAY, I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU, i just said thank you and walked out.

WHERE'D THE GARAGE GO ???!! I was in absolute SHOCK, people that were just goin about their day saw the look on my face and had a look like :WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS DUDE? I stood there for a few minutes just looking up and down the STREET, like : AM I EVEN IN THE RIGHT PLACE ??!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 , it's a APARTMENT BUILDING NOW, wow.

I've been to the TUNNEL(TEMPLE with Dj TIMMY REGISFORD) a few times. I would take the Path in from N.J. A and walk across from 7th AVE. And, i don't know if it's still there, but i would stop by an LAMBORGHINI dealership and just stand there looking at the cars b4 continuing to my night out. (RIP MOI RENEE ,House Music artist and promo person there and other spots) on the hours i'd go would be around 1am/2am, part my ritual i'd stop and get either pizza🍕(I forget the name of that corner spot,Just outside the Path station) or hot dogs at GREY'S PAPAYA 🌭🌭, ANYONE WHO REMEMBERS GREY'S PAPAYA IS AN REAL O.G. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The Palladium was first a concert venue and not a night club. Picture a large old school movie theater. Saw The Police at The Palladium first row during their Regatta De Blanc tour. Wasn't sold out. The following year they really hit it big. Saw Todd Rundgren, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Patti Smith their also and many others. This Jeff guy is a bit of a poser. I doubt he went to Studio 54. I'm 63 and was to young to go but one of my sisters who is 72 went during it's heyday. She was dating a Columbian? Get the picture? Went to Max's Kansas City before it closed and turned into a Korean deli. That place was derelict. I was alo a regular at The Ritz nightlub/concert venue. Saw many New Wave bands there. The Fixx, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Thomas Dolby, etc. NYC was fun back in the late 70's early 80's. No rules and lack of police allowed you to do almost anything short of serious crimes. I was also a bike messenger from 79'-82 across the street from another concert venue called The Savoy. 44th street between 6th ave and 7th ave/Bway.

I would love your opinion guys. as somebody who' been djing and producing music for more then 25 years and been living in london and ibiza, been to berlin at least 20 times and visited most of the clubs, i was quite dissapointed with NY club scene last year i went there. ok, i was only in basement and good room, the music was really good but as far as i know people call Basement "NY Berghain" and thats really wishful thinking if you ask me. you couldnt get a drink after 4am which sucks. things like that dont exist in Europe at least where i ve been. also, you can buy tickets in advance and there is no door policy. so i couldnt really compare "the quality"of party goers to berlin or madrid. the good room was closing at 5!? has ny clubbing scene changed for the worse compared to legendary 80s and 90s?

Twiilo was so much newer and not nearly as good or fun as these old school clubs were. Totally different scene and the crowd was different. Many people loved it but they did not get to enjoy late 70's and 1980's as well as early 90's clubbing. after 95 clubs started going downhill and really after 2000 it really got bad.

Kinda strange how Jeff is being a bit dismissive of Michael Alig and the Club Kids here, when in fact Michael was almost single-handedly responsible for the renaissance of New York's nightlife in the late 80s (remember that Village Voice's article "The death of Downtown" after Warhol passed away?) and then going into the mid 90s with Disco 2000, at the Limelight nonetheless.
