Hey guys!! Just un important reminder. Electrical wiring is something really dangerous to do by yourself (DIY). The right thing to do is to hire someone that has studied and know it he/she is doing. We are doing this part of the build by ourselves but we are actually both engineers and even though we don't really work on the engineering field we have this knowledge and we understand the standards. The second thing is that all we are doing is based on the Brazilian standards (NBR-5410) and the standards change from country to country, so take this as an example, not as a how to video. Well hope you guys like it! Oi pessoal!!

Valeu pelas dicas Gustavo. 👌🏼😊

Hey Duca+Roberta, again Great Team Work and the system you 2 use..is realy well thought off..wiring trough conduit in the wall, is the safest and in case of trouble easiest to trace.. Plus, you dont have to demolish your walls when somthing fails.. One Suggestion, zipty all the conduit as strait as possible to the metal frame, so when the walls are up and you wanna dril a hole or screw somthing against the wal, you allways know where the wiring is.! Succes and Greetz from across the globe.

Hi guys, Been watching your videos from the start love your videos , I miss the snap when changing scenes or subjects that was one of the reasons I started to watch you guys in the first place. I am really concerned about the way you guys are doing electrical. I know money is a concern, you should try to run all your wiring in aluminum conduit because if you have a break in the wire anywhere or it shorts out, it could start a bad fire. And be stuck in there with the fire. Because that plastic loom could burn real easy with that insulation. You might consider a professional. I like your very positive can do attitude. And your hay let's learn something cool to day if you guys have an electrical storm outside and it hit your home your plastic loom will burn real easy. I just worry about you guys. Keep up the good work. Hope to see many more videos.

Thanks a lot for worrying for us Kent. About the plastic conduit that is the standard used in Brazil, it is tested and it complies with the standard. We are actually both engineers and we are doing everything 100% according to the Brazilian standard NBR5410 as it’s supposed to be. Don’t need to be worried we are playing safe. Having always less wired that the limits allowed by conduit. 👌🏼

You didn't need the plastic conduit. You could have just used 3/12 wire which contains a neutral, a "hot" and a bare ground and is sheathed already, throughout most of the house for lighting and plug circuits. They are separate of course, lighting circuits and plug circuits so if you blow a plug your lights still work. Electrical is very easy to do for residential. Usually wire needs only be run in conduit underground, outside and areas where vermin (mice and rats) could possibly make contact with it such as crawlspaces for example. In the kitchen and bath you use the GFI plugs and the dishwasher, hot water dispenser and fridge have their own circuits.Wiring is not rocket science lol
@ScottM1973
@ScottM1973 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you thought of this but have you considered just running all the wiring across the ceiling and then down the walls? Also are you worried about mice/rodents using the wooden conduit to get around and possibly chewing on the wiring?
@OddLifeCrafting

There is not enough space on the ceiling. Specially on the connection in between both sides of the house and on the east site (as the ceiling is a little bit higher. 😏

Why did you use conduit as in New Zealand houses are generally wired without any? The wires are placed through the frames before the walls are put on and then the outlets and lights etc are fitted once the painting has been completed. Does it have anything to do with using metal framing?
@OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 4 жыл бұрын
It’s easier to have them to put the wires after building things and also to exchange them whenever it’s necessary. And it also protects the wires to get in touch with wood and other materials and avoid any problems

Do you have a work around to prevent the wiring running in the channel along the floor from being exposed to water. I am thinking if you ever have a leak from a sink or something it could hit those lines. I know they are coated and in the conduit so it may not be that big a concern but, wondered if you had a fail safe for this?
@OddLifeCrafting

The wire that will pass under the sink will be inside of a shaft but also inside of a water tight conduit. The wire for the kitchen will run underneath of the countertop not on the floor to play it safe. 👌🏼😊

If I may Let's make believe that you are moved in and coming home from a hard days work on you boat renovation. Open the front door and reach for the switch you want to illuminate (a table lamp, ceiling...etc.) Don't forget the outside stuff such as porch light, wp (weather protected) outlet(s) Here, at the lockset side I'd install a double gang (a box that will accomodate two switches or outlet), one for outside light and one for inside. Place a junction box there. I like mine at 42" oc. (on center) your preference... Repeat the process with each room, always asking the same question "Where is the electrical demand and how can I control it with convenience?" In other words, where is my electrical demand and place the appropriate box in its proper location. For instance, your office is outlet hungry such as router, laptop, printer, phone charger, camera charger, ambient lighting, and spare for future use etc. You might want to have a couple of outlets above table height for convenience. What I'm trying to say here is that Your'e working backwards, the reason you lay awake at nights. Install your boxes first THEN connect the boxes. Don't forget your communication such as CAT5e or fibre optics for your internet router etc. A conduit is ideal for this application since the technology changes so rapidly, a conduit will allow out to 'fish' a newer faster cable in the future. I would then rough wire the boxes eliminating the costly conduit by using grommets. kzbin.info/www/bejne/anjKfZ6Jdqd8Y7c You have me somewhat concerned at 5:41 If I understand you correctly, the electrical panel is under the kitchen sink cabinet. You might want to check with your MASTER electrician. Main panels are not allowed in wet areas such as bathrooms. Something to do with water and electricity not mixing well. A more sensible and cost effective method would be to locate the panel close to the service entrance conductor (that big wire from the utility service) keeping it as short as possible. Most panels are at eye level in an enclosed cabinet. A simple box with a door is all that's needed here. OK! I've done enough damage here...time to move on before I get thrown out. Cheers, N
@OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 6 жыл бұрын
You are right to have this worries Robert but let me defend ourselves hehehehehe. We actually didn’t do it backwards (we believe) we just didn’t lock the boxes on place but every single conduit was based on the exact place we want outlets and switchs. That way it took so long for us because we needed to work on the furniture plans so we could decide where we want the switchs for lights and the outlets, including outside lights and outlets. About internet/tv cables they will come underground until the west container. The main switch box is not going to on the kitchen cabinet. It will be on the sit of the dining table, that it’s not really a wet area as there is no hose close to it. Underneath the kitchen cabinet we will have a water tight conduit bringing energy to the bathroom and to the storage place. 👌🏼😊

thats a one time use line guide, next time, take two rings and tape it to the tube ends and pass the guide through the ring and through the tube through the other ring at the other end and back through the tube, now cut the string and tie the string and to the string start that you passed through the starter ring. wala you got a re-usable guide that you can last for the lifetime of the house. want to rework the electical or add more functionality to the house through data cables you can without the need to even take out your drywall.

Also if you want to be able to add an extra wire in a conduit (or in case you need to ever replace a wire) make sure to tie a new piece of string to the wire when you pull it through. This means you end up with the wire installed and a new piece of string in place ready to pull a 2nd wire.
