Man I can't thank you enough! ..... 3 years ago I was mining Ethereum but as the crypto craze died down, I lost my interest and stopped mining. I sold the mining rig with the data and a screenshot of my seed phrase in the rig. I had a copy of the seed phrase but later on found out I was missing 1 word. I tried recovering the SSD from the rig but sad enough the new owner installed a new OS on it, thus the seed phrase was erased as well. Out of desperation, I brought the SSD to a professional data recovery specialist but they cant recover they files because the data was already overwritten. Until I found your video and I was able to get that one word missing. Thank you so much man, I hope you keep this up!

Yep, it's certainly a double edged sword in terms of the learning curve and lack of opportunity to recover from mistakes. The crazy thing is how quickly it goes from taking minutes to recover, to taking weeks. (eg: from 3 words missing to 4) As much as banks are annoying and dodgy, being your own bank helps you understand part what they provide for normies as opposed to just storing your cash under your mattress.

If you scrambled it then unfortunately you are out of luck, as the math for descrambling 24 word seeds make it impractical. On the other hand, if it's just a minor typo, two swapped words, etc, then that's easy.

Just run BTCRecover with all the defaults, you don't even need placeholders for the missing words for two words missing. It's a straightforward recovery. If you can't work it out, just generate a test wallet first and get it working with that.

If your situation is one of the two I described then more hardware doesn't matter (Especially if it's the one where you only have 5/24 words) it's still unrecoverable. If you are only missing 5 words then it's possible that in 20-30 years technology improvements might mean that you could throw enough computational power at it. (Something in the order of a 10,000x performance increase)

You can't use your own list with BIP39 and shouldn't be choosing your own seed words a anyway, this is terribly insecure. (Humans are really bad at producing true randomness required for cryptography) Your best best is to let your wallet generate a seed phrase for you and if you want to add your own custom phrase, add that as a BIP39 passphrase.

Bitcoin on a ledger device. Yesterday I connected my ledger to my laptop after about two years. Once connected to ledger live it said the firmware device needed to be updated, this update didn't work properly but I did reset my device. I thought this would be fine as I had my recovery phrase to hand but I have never used/checked this. After trying to input my recovery phrase it said not matching, but then my whole device is also now stuck in bootleg mode and I can't repair it on ledger live, getting the error software not genuine. Is it normal for a device to not accept a seed sequence even if it's correct perhaps due to the device not linking properly to ledger live? or is it more likely that my seed is wrong. @@CryptoGuide

The Ledger accepting a recovery phrase happens before you connect it to Ledger Live and is based on the words themselves having a checksum. If you don't have the address then you can just give BTCRecover a go and use it with a Bitcoin address database. (I have a video which talks about this and it's also covered in the BTCRecover documentation)

If you have just lost one word, then simply using the defaults and entering the 23 words you have should find it quickly. (For only one missing word, you don't need to specify the location) If you want to avoid this sort of drama, just stick to Bitcoin.

Having a word occur multiple times in a seed phrase is perfectly valid, does it actually tell you that the seed is invalid? (Or that the checksum fails or something?) If it is invalid, my suggestion would be just following my video on installing BTCRecover, set the BIP32-path to be that of XRP and then specifying that you have 2 "big typos"
