Wow, what a beautiful hike! I'm hoping to do a trip out to the Bighorn Mountains and trying to find out which hikes to do. I think this is at the top of my list now. Great video, thanks for sharing!

Glad it helped. Check out the trail system in the Cloud Peak Wilderness of the Bighorns between Buffalo, WY and Tensleep, WY along hwy 16. Lots of great options. The All Trails app is very helpful. Happy trails!

You guys are so fun I absolutely love this. I’m going to follow your exact tracks the best I can after the weather gets a little better here in Wyoming. I’m out in Gillette

I’ve been there many decades ago. Very pretty! It was the beginning of July and the lower twin was 3/4 frozen over! For Brook trout I used a fly I made that was a mosquito with a blue floss body and a black thread wrap on that. Had a black feather tail and the standard black and white feather in the front for the “legs”. Use a spinning rod/reel with a clear “bubble” that the line goes through, and you can half fill with water for weight. It should move up and down the line freely. Then a swivel and put on a long, tapered leader. Tie the fly on the end. The water in that bubble gives you the weight you need to cast it far into the lake. Remember to put the bubble on in the direction that will drive the pin in farther when it hits the swivel. I set up a guy at West Tensleep Lake, who was an outfitter, and had caught only one fish all week, with that setup. The next evening he had caught 32 trout! After that I sold him those flies for decades. Worked well in most other lakes in Wyoming mountains too. Lost Twin had Golden trout in it. I assume it still does. For a really great fishing trip go to Mirror Lake. After fishing it, fish down Middle Tensleep Creek. Eventually you will arrive at the trail that you took to get up there. But about halfway down you will come to a beautiful 15 foot waterfall. The pool it makes used to be full of fish! If you see an old, dead tree there with “KB” carved into it at the edge of the pool, that was me. Should have the year as well. Probably washed away by now though. That was in the 70’s as I remember. Great video that brought back fond memories! Thank you!

I miss the Big Horns. I was born and raised in Worland. You can only guess how much time I spent in the Big Horns. It was my back yard. Sadly I now live in Phoenix.

Great video! Do you remember about how long it took you to hike to the lakes?
@kimberlynolan27452 жыл бұрын
Round trip for us was about 13 miles and probably 6 or 7 hours of hiking. However we enjoyed the lake for quite a while and changed shoes several times for the river/creek crossings.

Bears are not much of threat at all in the bighorns as compared to other mountain ranges in Wyoming, never seen the need for bear spray there...
@nolanventures4734 жыл бұрын
Very true. The Bighorns are tame compared to the Winds, Yellowstone, Glacier and the like. And in theory - no Grizz. But I have come face to face with several black bears over the years. Most run away - about 95%. But some just don’t.

Scott and Kim, I am going to be heading to Glacier from Tulsa. Is this worth the stopover to hike or just better to keep going onto Glacier? Have done all your hikes in GTNP so not so sure this is that scenic, please advise.

Lost Twin Lakes is a fantastic hike. Would absolutely recommend. However, it's different in that this is a Wilderness area instead of National Park, which in this case involves a couple easy creek crossings (no bridge) and although rugged, terrific clearly defined trail. If it doesn't take you too far out of your way, it's definitely worth a day hike.

Thank you. GoPro hero 7 black on the entire video. Best thing I can find that will hold up in weather, water, and being dropped. Works great too.

We used 40% deet and had 100% deet on hand but did not need it. The only time is was bothersome was when changing shoes after river crossings. Even then it was not terrible.
