It is so rare to find a reviewer of Well of Ascension who gives it so much praise. The usual response is that the book is okay but not as good as The Final Empire. I thought I was the only one who enjoyed it more then the first book. Also, I can't wait for your reaction to the climax of this trilogy. Prepare for your mind to be blown.

I think when fantasy books get political elements it turns a lot of people off, I've seen a similar sentiment echoed with Oathbringer from the Stormlight Archive. Personally, I love that so these books were fantastic for me. I can't wait to my mind to be blown!

I also just love the moment when Vin and Zane get to Cett and Vin is so sure that he is a mistborn just hiding behind disability. I so appreciate how convinced I was that Vin was right, yet she is human and makes mistakes. And her mistakes just happen to be at the expense of hundreds of lives.
@LostinDiscovery4 жыл бұрын
Ugh, yeah. It was tough to see her cope with the reality of what she had done there. I'm glad Sanderson wasn't afraid to have Vin commit some horrible acts.
@adoniscreed40312 жыл бұрын
Not to pat myself on the back but I knew that Cett had no mistborns the second that Vin suspected him... On the other hand I was sure that Remoux was the Kandra and that she had to get to the Well to save the world so I got fooled by Vin's gutt feelings plenty throughout the book hahaha

The second book is my favorite in the trilogy! I know most people love Book 3, but I just loved how in this one we focus on the fallout of the events of the first book, and grapple with the challenges of ruling. I especially enjoyed Elend's moral and philosophical ruminations on leadership. Is giving free will and choice more important than actually protecting the population? Good stuff. His character didn't do much for me in the first book, but in this one I really liked that he was just a regular guy, surrounded by people with extraordinary abilities, trying to do what he thinks is right. Also the friendship between Vin and the kandra gives me life! Happy reading :)

I really enjoyed spending more time with Elend in this book and seeing his internal battles as well, he quickly became one of my favourites. Thanks for your amazing comment! I'm eager to see what book 3 has in store :)

this one was page turner for me. final empire was a solid book, but i expected more from it. While third one had depressing somber tone, which is not bad. this one was just so exciting. i wanted to now what would happen to the characters every page. action is my least fav part though.
@atropa4111 Жыл бұрын
This! I see soooo many comments about how book 2 is "one of Sandersons weakest books, and the weakest of the trilogy" yet, I find myself still reflecting on WoA as my favourite of the three books. The philosophical and political commentary on what it means to be a good man, a good leader, a good king, weighing up the value of not only your own moral code, but their decisions versus what you know would be best for them as their leader etc. I found all of that rivetting and I hate hearing people slam on it for being 'boring' or 'slow'.

I agree, this book, IMO is so much better (though I still loved tons Final Empire). On the things that Sanderson could improve, as you said, the romantic relationships are too bland. I dont need "hear" from the narrator "Elend loved Vin", or "they kissed". At one point I was like: I know the love each other, but I dont believe you!!! Show me, dont tell me. Granted, Elend WAS better and expressing his love with his actions.

Yeah I agree. That’s one of the things I loved about Kelsier’s and Vin’s relationship. It was never stated that Vin loved and trusted Kelsier, but it was obvious by the way she acted

Just finished Well of Ascension. Ended up enjoying it even more than Final Empire! In FE, Kelsier was my favorite character. In WoA, Zane was my new favorite. At least for the majority of the first 3 parts haha. I was so intrigued by him. I was hoping Vin would “save him” and he would end up uniting with Elend against Straff. But then came the moment when I first realized Zane was lying to Vin: when he told her the assassins at the assembly were Cett’s. I had thought Zane was being pulled away from his father, whom he was already trying to help poison, but in that moment I realized he was playing both sides and I just wanted Vin to kill him! I was also shocked that OreSeur (TinSoon) was the Kandra spy. I love how we’re hit with that but then he tries to help Vin so it’s easy to forgive him. He was just following his contract after all. Love the twist at the end that the worldbringer writings and even the Keepers’ copperminds were being messed with to trick everyone with false prophesies. That kind of had to happen though or there would be no book 3. I loved how Vin killed Straff. So many authors would’ve had some verbal exchange between these two right before he died, with Vin lording her victory over him before killing him. Love how Vin didn’t even give Straff the time of day. Just duralumin steel pushed through the sky and sliced him right in half. Love Vin ♥️ One thing that bothered me is that nothing is revealed about Zane after his death. No one mentions the fact that he had a Steel Inquisitor’s spike in his chest. I thought that was kind of a big deal. It appears no one even discovered it. Vin also doesn’t take his atium stash that he brought with him when he went to collect her. I kept waiting for it to pop up during a later fight. Like when all seemed hopeless, Vin would swallow an atium beed from the stash that had been found in Zane’s cape pocket, but nope. It’s never even mentioned again. Did no one even check his body or rummage through his pockets after his death? He so often uses atium that Vin should have assumed he would have some on him. I just found it odd that those things were just totally dropped and never mentioned again. It’s like they just threw his body in a cart and dumped it in the River and no one checked his corpse for anything. That was the one week point for me. I’m hoping something about this is brought up in book 3. Can’t wait to start Hero of Ages! Possible book 3 spoiler.......... Since other reviewers have already spoiled Kelsier’s fate for me in a nutshell, and I know he is a ghost at this point, I’m assuming he is the mist spirit. The only thing that gives me pause is that Alendi also claimed to have seen the mist spirit a thousand years ago, so maybe not. Would be cool though if Kelsier is looking out for Vin in his ghostly form at this point in the story.

Also I agree about elend, since the first book I've been expecting his death at some point and obviously i don't know yet but he's built up so much resilience, I feel like giving him allomancy was just a set up to make us feel comfortable before he does die, and honestly i could see vin dying too.
