I love his stormlight series because it has such great examples of creative fantasy. It's not all grim dark or dystopian. The main setting is a bit dystopian because it takes place in a very stony environment with a bunch of racists basically at war to commit genocide, but the magic and descriptions for other locations in the world are wonderful and peak fantasy imo, and the character writing is fantastic and features some truly good hearted people trying to make the world a better place. Like there's one place that sometimes gets referred to called the Purelake, it's a region that's about 1-2 feet underwater at all times and always warm, and the people there are laid back and content. There's one city that's a main location that's built into a mountainside from the peak straight down to water for a major port. It's one of the largest trade hubs in the world and has a massive library with a kindly old king that provides free healthcare to literally everybody that comes to the city. Stormlight Archive is basically Sanderson intentionally trying to write his version of a modern epic fantasy with many locations, characters, magic, politics, etc., and I think he's doing a great job.

Kelsier’s scars still need work. They need to be a lot more vertical than horizontal as they come from reaching in past sharp edges to grab an object then withdrawing past those same sharp edges again. The only way they would be horizontal is if he were rotating his arm while exposed to sharp edges, though this may be possible at times the vast majority of the scars should be down the length of the forearm. Think of it as plunging your arm down a monsters throat to get to a treasure, you have to reach past those razor sharp teeth with very little clearance available and you’ll catch on them going both in and out.

Vin: The drawing is amazing. You managed to make something like an actual mistcloak work (as opposed to a mistcoat), and I enjoy the obsidian daggers. If I had to nitpick, I'd point out that her hair is significantly shorter for most of book 1, which is what this seems to be based on. Kelsier: A bunch of other commenters have mentioned that the scars should be more numerous, longer, and more vertical. I won't harp on that. I'd note that descriptions of Kelsier's psychopathic behavior don't begin or end at "he smiles too much." The man is fully capable of justifying any of his murders to himself. I enjoy that he doesn't look TOO young in this, he's ~40. I also like what you did with his smirk. Kaladin: The dude is, like, 19 in Rosharan years, and ~21 in ours. He absolutely can't grow a great beard, though I do like this take on his face and expression. Like most on Roshar, though, he is significantly, significantly darker-skinned than how you drew him. As Sanderson also mentioned, Kaladin is ~7ft tall, and significantly leaner than the drawing. Shallan: Honestly, this one was basically perfect. Unlike most depictions I've seen of this character, she actually looks as young as she is in book 1. Were I to mention anything, it would, of course, be her exposed safehand. The exposed hand is essentially equivalent to being topless, a glove is maybe equivalent to extremely skimpy clothing, and the sleeve covering the safehand (which is standard) is a basic feature of the Havah's design.

Shallan, especially at the start of the series, would've found having her safehand concealed only by a glove scandalous, too. The lingerie comparison is well-found, but doesn't hold up entirely, seeing as lower class women usually only wear gloves instead of a full sleeve. I guess it's more similar to a tight tank top? Fine for many people, but a bit revealing for people who are used to covering up more.

Each person, even if they aren't empowered/a mage themselves, has a certain amount of BEU (breath equivalent units) Investiture in their very soul. This varies between 1 and 3 BEU per planet, and Roshar is at the latter extreme.

Soo, perfect IP for this type of video (for me). I feel like once an actor portrays a character, especially if they do it well, whatever image you had in your head from reading the books just dissappears.

I just clicked because I am curious and I only really know the stormlight archives because of a metal song about that series by one of my favourite bands. I was so excited to learn more about Kaladin in this video because what I know comes from the song and a reaction video by a stormlight archives fan. Kind of unreal to be watching this after having sung along to that song with the band this sunday. The song is Violent Shadows by Blind Guardian if you are curious, BG often writes songs about fantasy books.

It was extremely validating to be like, "Jazza, you got the most cloak wrong" only to have Sanderson agree, then be thinking, "Kelsier's scars aren't that big, there's lots of little ones" only to have Sanderson agree, then be thinking, "Why are you drawing Kal so stocky?" only to have Sanderson agree, then to be like, "Sanderson is so going to call you out on her hand not being covered," only to have that happen immediately, and finally get to Steelheart and think, "I don't have any concerns about this one," only to have Sanderson once again agree. It's probably because I've read the books more recently (I started just over a year ago and have made my way through almost the entire Cosmere), but I'm glad to know that my imaginings of the characters seems to be pretty close to the authors intent.

I never thought Kal or Shallan were Asian looking. Kinda neat to hear. I definitely didn’t imagine either with that ethnic comparison. I’m Korean and thought both were white. Kaladin is a bit off just due to the fact that he’s 19 in the first book. You drew him as something of a 30 year old who’s been hitting the gym relentlessly for the past 10 years. He also would’ve been malnourished as a slave and even as a bridgeman. And a more scraggly since it’s described that way a fair few times in the books. Again, most men at age 19 (especially of Asian decent) can’t grow much of a beard.
