Hello Ash, I've enjoyed your adventures for many years, and thank you for the inspiration. What has always struck me more than the ease of your documentary style is your talent as a potential world class photographer & cinematographer, when you do choose to turn that part of your work on, it is truly awesome. What are you doing outwith these truly amazing documentaries you bring us to further advance this side of your work dear fellow? :)

Bonsoir Ash, great video as always, I'm the same as you with firewood anxiety ! I keep cutting and chopping, already munching through my massive pile ! I also use a splitting maul, Oak chops so easy but Beech is a bugger ! Keep the homefires burning mon ami ! x

The skies are incredibly clear here during the winter. Never seen anything like it.

Brilliant video Ash, lots of different things going on and a good rescue too. I would be inclined to saw out small sections around the nails and burn them, leaving the nails and wood ash to sweep out. Got to be easier than pulling or tapping them out.

In Sweden, you will be fined if you do not have winter tires after December 1. And there are high fines. First a fine for not having winter tires then a fine for each wheel.

I noticed that people in Sweden split their wood for stacking much smaller than we do here in British Columbia. We tend to larger pieces and more variety in the size. Larger pieces are great to put on a good bed of coals, then turn the damper way down and burn long and slow, like overnight. Then when you get up in the morning, you still have embers and the place isn't freezing. Then fire it up and do a good hot burn in the morning to clean the pipes. You don't get creosote buildup that way.

Not had the proper cold yet Ash.My son lives in Jämtland, it was -27c last weekend, and the village ski slopes are opening a month earlier than normal

Brilliant Ash, love your work !! I've followed your journey from the beginning! As you say you have to get prepared very early because as soon as winter hits, that's it !!!! The Northern lights were amazing ! Back home in North Yorkshire, we live 20 mins from Ilkley 4 miles outside of Skipton( sheep's Town ) & The Northern lights were strong here as well. So beautiful!! What's the weather like now, I bet much colder & more snow ! How's the winter storage of wood coming on ? Keep up your great content, looking forward to your next installment. Take care both.

I was taught to avoid if possible towing backwards when rescuing someone manly for three reasons. 1. The reverse gear of your gearbox is nearly always the weakest gear and therefore the danger of damaging the gearbox highest in reverse. Shock load breaks things.. 2. The ring and pinion in your differential are cut to be strong going forward but are weaker when reversing again higher risk at damaging them when reversing. Again Shock load. 3. Quite often you are rescuing a car that is not as strongly build as your own car and if something brake loose on the other car it can come at you with quite a force. Your car is more vulnerable in the front than in the back, a flying part of a car can penetrate your radiator, break your headlight or the front windscreen or in worst case scenario hit you in the face. All of this can make it difficult to get home or to your destination. On the other hand if it hit the car in the back it can of course damage it but it would not have much effect on the operation of the car.

All valid points which I'm aware of👍 trouble is in this case there is no where to hook too on the back of the pajero. Only the tow ball which would be idiotic

Brilliant one Ash. Just goes to show how good that elastic rope is. Ahh you kind beat a bit of log splitting. And then a bit more arrives haha. Keeps you warm while working 🪓 Would be amazing to see that wolf, definitely a big one. Take Care Bud

Thanks dude 👍 the stretch ropes are definitely a better choice although the one I have is pretty crap so will probably invest in a better one at some point

Do I see some grey in your beard? 😬 Welcome to the "Old Farts Club"! 😂 Edit: Yes, those tracks are likely wolf tracks. Most definitely canine (as you noticed already, due to the clearly visible claws) but even the biggest domestic dog breeds don't usually have prints that size. Also dog tracks are usually rounder while wolf tracks are more narrow which fits those tracks too. Nice find! 👍🏼😉

Great video Ash. You have to investigate if it was a lynx or a wolf. Why not set a trap of some sort so you can make a video who it is, with a bit of luck. Yes i know it´s verually impossible if you don´t have one of those mothion sensors (or whatever they call them) But give it a go. Set out some bate and check who´s coming

I'm still not exactly sure on our total wood consumption as this will be the first winter with two fires running. Right now it's -20 / -25 and we are burning a 50l bag (loosely filled) per day in each fire

The china quad sounds desperate for a valve adjustment haha, can't tell if it's just your audio of if it's that bad IRL but assuming its like a little yamaha/honda SOHC flat tappet copy with screw adjust lash - go on and check it man before you wipe a cam lobe if it's as bad as your audio sounds haha :P
@LostInEurope11 ай бұрын
I think it actually sound way worse on camera than it does in person haha. I've checked the clearances and they are within the only tolerances I could find online for that model. If that's correct or not is up to the gods 🤣

You've moved from the beast to a mini beast, will you change your pajero to a pajero junior?
@NewstromJulianna11 ай бұрын
I think it’s a wolf. Wolves run and walk in a very straight line compared to dogs. So cool to have a wolf but don’t leave your animals out alone.

Any form of Elastic / Kinetic rope, You really wanna pop the bonet becuase if that snaps it will go through the Windshield and you like knife through butter but I'm sure you already know that!
@HoagesMoto11 ай бұрын
Not sure where you come from but I'd be quite amused seeing any Aussie do this and inevitably snap thei bonnet stays/struts off or knock their bonnet back into their windscreen during a snatch recovery let alone not being able to see where you're going, the amount of force your putting into the other vehicle and the drivers signals etc. Not an striclty incorrect suggestion I guess but certainly not the 'norm' to have your bonnet lifted when using a quality snatch strap/kinetic rope on rated recovery points and shackles. Whether that's what Ash was using is a different story lol... but you use what you have to help a mate, no one died and the little yeti isn't in the ditch anymore haha :P
