Thank you so much for the feature! It was me and Popuri's first game jam so there was a lot of nervous energy and we're both just glad to have gotten through! There's a reason the song is about finishing what you started :P Huge shoutout to SometimesSkeptic for the art, and Popuri for all the amazing sound, you guys really deserve the credit. My top games of the jam were probably Handshakes and Soulmates. Also enjoyed the atmosphere and weirdness of Wanderland. Also huge thank you to John for putting this jam on. I learned so much through the jam and met some awesome new people. It's really instilled me with energy and confidence.
@clapostrophy2 жыл бұрын
Wow, a lot of wonderful entries - definitely going to check the majority of these out (as I am a sucker for pixel art, some make it extremely easy, but beside that I can not deny the great visual appeal of entries like “15 light minutes away,” and “Energy Crisis” - the latter giving the impression of a very charming board game). Handshakes is the only one I played yet (as I commented under another video already, it was the first entry that I checked out after I had uploaded mine). Though, really, I am so glad that I participated in this jam, that gave me the kick to finally try my own hands at game making. Also special shout-out to the other 1st-time-game-creators that participated! I would have loved to particiapate way more in the second half (the voting part) of the jam, but I basically just worked on refining my entry, as I wasn’t happy with its state when I eventually uploaded it - and from countless examples I knew when once set aside it would most probably not go anywhere. Next time I try to get that balanced better and also socialise more… that loner path wasn’t exactly satisfying. (And… to no surprise… pulling 2 all-nighters was pretty devestating and hardly of any help.) Absolutely impressive what the contestants came up with here. What a weird thought that all these new games just came so suddenly into existence! P.S.: That “combination of Spelunky and Get Over It” quote had me chuckle… this might be the first one I am going to check out - it checks many personal boxes, while I still hope it is more of a 80/20 ratio of that described combination. :)

It was my first jam, and to he honest I regret some decisions I made. I think if I fixed just a couple of things, my game could've been a hundred times better. I highly (and I mean HIGHLY) doubt that most of these were created in a week. A lot honestly look like they have been in development for multiple months already. I mean, it's nice to see all these great games, but for me this kind of sours the experience.
@ninjamonk2 жыл бұрын
100% agree, there are no way most of theses were done in a week. There are some great games here but they look a little too polished for a game jam.
@agent-332 жыл бұрын
The unspoken rule in game jams is to have a prototype ready to be recreated to fit in the game jam theme. Remember there is no actual way for the judges to check when the game was initially created. No documentation whatsoever so it should make sense to take it as a strategy despite how unethical it looks.
@LostRelicGames2 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for every game shown here; but I and the mods followed the development of many, who were streaming progress live in our discord. These are all mini games, some with teams of 4 people. Don't underestimate what can be achieved in 9 dedicated, adrenaline and caffeine fueled days.

I have a question. My game (the mission of the geometric shapes) had some problems. The HTML resolution was fine at my pc and at my brother's laptop. But when I asked someone else to play it the screen was half. Do you know why? Or can you make a video for it??
@HomeGameCoder2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know! The canvas is not configured to fit the screen. Adding a canvas and starting to put things in there is a recipe for disaster! In a new scene, add the canvas. Set it to 'Screen space - Camera', drag the camera to the variable (or script to do it automatically), On canvas scaler change UI Scaler Mode to 'Scale with screen size' and set a reference resolution (eg: 1920x1080 or 4K or ....the bigger screen you imagine your game running/needing the resolution) Now, the interface is draw where the camera is, with the size of the camera and it adjusts to different screen sizes... sizes, not aspects! Just keep a horizontal margin of safety if you set Match to 'Height' so that the difference between 16:9 or 16:10 doesn't affect the elements! You are good to go!

I joined and made a, to be blunt, buggy and clunky game (For reference, it ranked around 250-350 in most categories), but when I see and play all these cool games, I only feel awe and wonder at how amazing they are! Even if there may be prizes and rankings, the real prize (in my eyes, anyways) are all the cool games that come out from this! Plus, these are the top picks. I guarantee that a lot of the games on there (like mine) are not nearly as polished as the ones shown here! Sorry, ended up rambling a bit. Though, I hope to see you in a future game jam!
