Is it weird I get a little hyped every time the Mega Man 2 Dr. Wily's Castle music plays?

The level design realization classic rite of passage for game devs. "oh wait, THIS is the game. I don't know how to do this!" I'll definitely jump into that other video bout development hell. I'm quite desperate about mine and about to retire it forever.

As a professional animator from the TV and Movie space I have been thoroughly impressed with you animations. They seem both fluid and economical at the same time, bravo. For my game all the animation is traditional, throwing economics out the window, and its rough.

John i always wondered, you don't mention it in your videos or maybe you mention it long ago, but do you work on your game and at the same time you have a full time job as software engineer? And at the same time you are merried and with kids and wifu to keep happy? How the hell do you do it all man? It would make sense to me if this is your prio, you've quit the job and went all in as indie game developer. Either way John I'm puzzled and at the same time in awe of you 😁👊👌🤝👆💫👏 you 🤘

Ahh funk, you did mention full time job and family 👌💯 talk more about how your approach will change in future? What will you change? What will your new approach be on new projects?

Hey man, hobby-game-dev here. I just wanted to say, I really like the more "gritty" or "raw" style of your videos. It feels a bit more authentic. Many other channels give more a "youtuber-vibe" than an "actual-gamedev-vibe" (which is fine of course, but there are so many of those channels already).
@NadiaJuMGameN5 сағат бұрын
Building everything from scratch is hard and time consuming. But level design is even harder when you are a regular dev without art skills like me. I am very impressed by people like you who can do both coding and art! It's great to see your progress. Good luck!

That looks super cool. He gives me Logen Ninefingers vibes. The first thing I noticed was how good the sound design was, and I am amazed that crushing and ripping apart vegetables sounded so good.

Great video, but man do I feel you with level design being a time sink. You build all these systems and think "cool, game's basically done, just needs content" only to realise you've only done the easy part... Great to hear you're 80% through though, it's all looking fantastic!

Happy for you John! :D doing my game solo but without the additionall responsibilities you have. I'm 40 LOL we're all get there to finish...we just need to keep on fighting! :D Animation wideo would be welcome!

I'd say, even more than metroidvania, biome is used especially for survival games, like minecraft, don't starve, etc... Also, here, some extra wind in your sails ;)

Well done John! You seem to be very clear and focussed in what you have to do next. Having the bulk of the artwork done is a major plus. I would however recommend lots of playtesting ASAP and allow time for fixing issues and balancing based on their feedback - There's nothing quite like 100 players to break your perfect game and find a 100 new issues! :) As developer also making a game on Steam, I'm super interested in your release phase, timing, numbers, strategy etc. I hope you will be covering that part of your journey (and beyond) in detail. This kind of information is pure gold. But please take care of yourself and don't overdo it - put your health first. We'll be cheering you on in any event! Best of luck! DaleJ.

So this game looks really good. I've wishlisted it and I'm going to check it out when it's published on Steam. I would really like to see a full video on this: 14:22. What would you do differently if you started a new game project. I bet you've learned quite a few important lessons from working on Blood and Mead. And also yes for 3:14 - the Animation Lessons you learned from Etienne (Berzerk studio).

This is a great video. Helpful for me starting out. I have a game idea that would be, well, like a sepia tone, Victorian aged 'limbo', crossed with the item based puzzle gaming of the 'the silent age'. I'm looking for a programmer to help me develop it on the off chance you find that idea interesting?

May I ask what code are you using to create this game?
@malte198417 сағат бұрын
I just now learn how to use Unity (and coding) to beginn with (I'm making something like a top down 2d Zelda game)... got stuck when I wanted to add a fighting animation. Tried out sub state machines and made it worse XD... this here looks like a way better approach... means I have to start all over again but if I figure this out, It will be way slicker. Thanks
