A lot of the extended scenes are fun world-building but not pivotal to the theatrical films, but this one might have been a good scene to have kept. (1) Humanizes Boromir, which is sorely lacking in the theatrical cuts; (2) Sets-up Haldir for his heroic appearance in Two Towers; (3) Gives more depth to Legolas, who doesn't get a lot of screentime; (4) Gimli without a helmet; and (5) further cements the grandiosity of Lothlorien.

they're of the same race, but they are placed in different lands. Thranduil moved north, and Legolas is his son, and mirkwood & thranduil's palace are seperated by a pretty large amount of land, which is probably why they don't know each other that well.

@AlbertoDeSagitario Well, the battle of Dale is a battle heavily involving the dwarves. Gollum was imprisoned in Mirkwood for a time, and escaped in an orc raid. Mirkwood was one of the three major targets in the Northern theatre, one being the Men of Dale and the dwarves in the lonely mountain and the other being Lothlorien.

@TheDragonBites sam's the most easily related to character. Unlike Sam, Boromir is practically a Gondor noble and is one with particularly great standing. Sam is merely a gardener. Frodo may be a hobbit as well, but he is Bilbo's heir, basically making him a "hobbit noble".

@skeletortheskeleton13574 жыл бұрын
I'm a year late to the party, but I think it is because it is very easy to accept something, even if they tell you what, but it is way different when you live it. Frodo might of have never imagined he would go through such harshness, or at least, it is less present to him until it happens. If I told you "You will cut yourself with paper tomorrow" You would be like "meh, what's a cut all about?" But when you cut yourself you'll most likely be like "AH SHIT THAT HURTS"

Legolas i can imagine looking at him more because of concern for the burden and darkness he has to carry. Something deeper, you know. Gimli too, has more of a stern "poor boy" look on his face. The hobbits being more ill equipped for such things, might be a bit more accusatory in their reaction here, in their hasty feelings. At least that's what i think. :D

Did I get the wrong impression or did Sam, Pip, Merry, Legolas and Gimli look at Frodo in a judgemental way here? Also I noticed that these same parts were seen by Frodo in Galandriel's mirror in the theatrical version of the movie. Something to wonder about...

Elrond´s bro chose mortality, while Elrond himself was made a half-Elf - because you cannot become a full-fledged Elf if you were a human before. If they existed - I mean Elves - I would REALLY love to become one. Because they are not completely immortal - rthey just heal quicker and they can die e.g. in a battle. Otherwise, if not harmed, they stay immortal. Good to know, because immortality could be a pain in the ass - you quickly get bored by it, and... what then..?

The temptation of power and wealth is a most cunning one, even more so when the people you care for, the people you love have death looming over their heads (so to speak) you endevor to gain power to defend them, to ensure their survival, such was happened to Boromir of Gondor (and to Anakin Skywalker among others). Like Boromir Anakin payed the ultimate price for giving in to the tempation of evil (even though it was for a good cause).

Between this scene and the one that precedes it there should have been another scene where the orcs of Moria catch up to them but the Lorien elves shoot them down. I know this scene was filmed because some of it appeared in at least one trailer. Why hasn't this scene make it in the extended edition? I would very much like to see it. Anyone know where?
@debbie45033 жыл бұрын
The scene you talk about was somewhat similar in the book. The Fellowship had to sleep in the tree's on the border. The Orc's came up in the night and the Elves drew them away.

If you want to go right back to the firstborn years sure, but a much closer event was the Dwarves stealing an Elven city whilst they were being ran out by Orcs, you wonder why Thranduil wouldn't march to the aid of Thrain.

@AlbertoDeSagitario He's not mentioned after he guides them to Lothlorien. Peter Jackson used the appearance of the elves at the Battle of the Hornburg (or Helm's Deep as it's called in the movies, which is the ravine the fortress behind it afaik), to represent the sacrifices of the elves in their final days in Middle Earth. The only elf there is Legolas, otherwise. The elves of Lothlorien are assaulted by the forces of Mordor, but its out of the movie's narrative, much like the Battle of Dale.
@poundingonthedoor15 жыл бұрын

Many of the Lorien Elves were Silvans (Thranduil's people), but presumably a good number of the older ones were Sindar (Celeborn's people) or Noldor (Galadriel's people), and these dominated, so the cultures were pretty different.
