Hi Charlie!
@plutoniumZRAGE7 жыл бұрын
Both of those are actually terms from ancient European languages! :) Northman is a literal translation of Old Norse "Norðmaðr," meaning "Norwegian person." Long Winter is a less direct translation of Fimbulvinter, the three years of winter that comes before Ragnarok, the end of the world in Norse Mythology. :)

Before Saruman was gifted Isengard, who lived there? And why was Isengard build in the first place, what was it purpose? :)
@avrorik3697 жыл бұрын
Isengard was a military fortress to guard the Gap of Rohan (called the Gap of Calenardhon at the time). The Numenoreans built the tower of Orthanc, and the surrounding fortifications were added later by various tenants. The Gondorian army originally dwelt there, but later it abandoned Isengard to the Dunlendings.

Wow so Eomer was actually Théoden's nephew? And Eowyn was his niece? Are she and Eomer brother and sister? Wow that's never touched on in the movie. Eomer is just know as the Third Marshall of the Mark. In the movie's they make it seem as if Eowyn is Théoden's daughter, which I was always like why doesn't Eomer just marry her and be in the royal family, well he is! So Eowyn actually does marry Faramir, nice, I hope there relationship was touched upon in the books because it seemed rather rushed. So What becomes of Faramir, he's not a noble of Gondor, he's married to the niece of the former King of Rohan, does he go back to Rohan and help them?
@Cookiesdiefrombehind7 жыл бұрын
Captain Harlock you should rewatch the movie. Eomer totally calls Eowynn his sister when Grima spies on her.
@Captain__Harlock7 жыл бұрын
You know, your totally right I do remember that. Théoden still treats her like his daughter though. It has been awhile since I seen the movies I shall correct that.

If you compare LOTR and GOT you can see that Westeros is far larger than Middle Earth and has far more communication. GOT plays out more like late medieval with knightly orders having great amounts of power and prestige and trade cities rivaling the influence and power of nobles. LOTR is more like early medieval with people carving out land in once great empires.

@Max1990Power5 жыл бұрын
@@MrMarinus18 yeah because martin used the war of the roses as inspiration while Tolkien had Beowulf and Edda. So his medieval world is more into 700 1000 AD. Also the Rohirrim use burial mounds. Sort of like childeric in Belgium and in Scandinavia. When I think about it. If rohirrim is more of 600-700 AD Gondor is more like Konstantinopel or the empire built by Karl the Great.

11:06 How was Wormtongue able to use spells and witchcraft? I thought only Valar, Maia and people with rings of power were able to use magic.
@TeenageMutantZuckerTurtle3 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure the Witch King of Angmar was already a pretty nasty sorcerer before he even received the ring? Don’t quote me on that, but I thought humans (and elves, obviously) could use lesser magic without a ring of power, maybe using some sort of lesser magical artifacts. Gandalf does reference magic rings to Bilbo in the Hobbit, and lets him keep it before realizing it was the One Ring years later, and I doubt he would have let him keep it if he knew it was one of the rings of power at all, so that sort of confirms that there are other lesser magic rings out there that weren’t one of THE rings. And I always thought that it was Saruman’s spell on Theoden, not Wormtongue’s. Saruman made him weak and pliable, and Wormtongue was just there to whisper in his ear and tell him what to do?
