The cast talks about how awesome Viggo Mortensen is and how he truly was the perfect casting choice for Aragorn in "The Lord of the Rings"!

Victoria Burrows, the Casting Director for LOTR, deserves a huge plaudits and recognition for the choices that she helped make for the cast of LOTR. Not just Viggo, but everyone was basically perfectly cast.

I think LotR actually undersells Viggo's ability and talent as an actor. While his portrayal of Aragorn was obviously great, he is surrounded by some many phenomenal actors in this movie that he has relatively little space to shine. I recently watched The Green Book for the first time and that movie really brings him into the spotlight and gives him the opportunity to show what he can do in full scale. Truly an amazing actor, and very underappreciated by Hollywood.

The Lord of the Rings, Green Book, The Road, A History of Violence, Appaloosa, Captain Fantastic, Eastern Promises... These are all are amazing movies and Viggo Mortensen always delivers - *always!* The only movie with him in the lead role that I saw and didn't like was Crimes of the Future and that sure as heck wasn't _his_ fault.

It's very rare when you have a great cast like that and an awesome plot and each character has something special about them. And it was also good that the flaws in the characters exposed them, and the strength of some of the characters elevated them which made it a very good story.
@bernlin20004 ай бұрын
Seems impossible to imagine anyone else doing that role, like so many actors in the films. But he's character NEEDS to be a "guiding shepherd" and it's just delightful that Viggo took that on in real life, it's very appropriate. Frodo wouldn't have made it far without "Strider".

@@AliasSchmalias My friend, Hollywood loves to tell tales about actors to make them exotic and worldly. Viggo was born in a small city of about 30 thousand in Northern New York USA. When he young, his family moved to South America for a time. At some point they moved back to this small city and his parents divorced. Viggo went to High School and college in Northern New York. His Father is from Denmark, but his mother is from upstate New York. His parents met I believe when his mother was working at the USA embassy in Norway. Both of his parent died in Northern New York of a disease that took away their mental abilities. 😢 Watch the movie Viggo directed, it has to do with this subject matter.

He basically grew up in Argentina, which is why he speaks Spanish with his siblings, and also lived in Denmark. He's the opposite to the typical American who's never been abroad and is cluless about other cultures. And unless it's changed recently, he's been living in Spain for several years, so he's more connected to Europe than you seem to be willing to realise.

Viggo was perfect as Aragorn, I couldn't imagine someone else playing him. My cousin always said he was the wrong choice, he was such a "laddie", but I think there couldn't have been a better Aragorn. The whole cast from LotR was just perfect, even Sir Christopher Lee praised Viggo and the whole crew as it was the best he ever worked with and that coming from a guy with a tremendous experience and movies he played in. I think he is an very underrated actor with a great experience, fluent in several languages... I just love him in Captain Fantastic.

I wouldn’t call him perfectly cast - he’s a great Aragorn but I feel like you have to know very little about the character in the books to think the ever scruffy, unshaven five o clock shadow suits him throughout the trilogy.

@@ImrahilToChaos I've read the books and still think Viggo is perfect. I think the movies did Frodo dirty at several points and Faramir was also done extremely dirty. I also kind of dislike Gollum's arc since in the books there is never any doubt that there's just no saving him. Frodo in the books never really trusted Gollum but in the movies he even went so far as to send Sam home in a weeping mess because of misplaced trust. I love the books but I also love the movies. Both have something great that the other lacks. For example there are several pieces of dialogue that I absolutely adore in the movies. Sam's little speech at Osgiliath and Boromir's send off for example are both masterfully written and performed. In terms of Viggo as Aragorn though? He's perfect in my eyes. He moves with such grace that it's hard not to find him kingly. And when first we see him he absolutely looks like a dirty, weary traveler. Really, I don't have a single complaint about any of the casting. They're all pretty much perfect... except for Elijah Wood. I don't know even know if that's a hot take or not. He's just not the hobbit we read about in the books at all. He's terribly miscast. Did he do a good job with what he was given? Sure, I guess. He just looks way too boyish. He's supposed to be in his early 50's. Sure, he's a hobbit so he should look a bit younger... but at least make him look like someone in his 30's ffs.

Viggo was a perfect Aragorn - both as a Ranger and as a Commander in battle. Once the war was won and Aragorn became King he was less convincing - he almost seemed smaller in the scene where he tells the Hobbits “you bow to no one.” Bernard Hill’s Theoden was a more convincing King. Nonetheless for all but the last half hour of Return of the King, Viggo was perfect. As we’re pretty much the entire cast.

well imo LotR had a perfect cast for all characters. There isn't a single character in the trilogy movies that i think underperformed or did bad. contrary to the hobbit, where 90% of the cast is atrocious. Granted, considering the writing they had to work with i understand how they were bad. Nobody could lift the hobbit movies cus they were just to badly written in comparison to LotR. wish they would have given Peter Jackson more time and money to make the hobbit movies. If they had been given the same level of love and passion as LoTr im certain they would have been epic.
