Christopher Lee has an incredible voice, and Peter Jackson squeezed every drop of talent out of him as Saruman. He plays so many characters wonderfully, but his performance as Saruman and the showcasing of his voice is unmatched in any of his other work. Saruman's most distinguishing trait as described by Tolkien is his unbelievably powerful, enchanting voice, and Lee nailed it. Every line he delivers is like music. I do think that Peter Jackson missed the boat with regards to transforming Lee's character from Saruman the White to Saruman of Many Colours as in his ambition and pride he breaks the unity of white to explore what may be beyond - though that would have probably been taken as an insult to the rainbow community. The transformation of Gandalf from Grey to White was an incredible part of Two Towers, and the similar decay of Saruman from White to Many Colored would have been the perfect parallel.

The bit where the Uruks cover their ears when Gimli blows the Horn of Helm Hammerhand, it is part of the book. I think the reason it got cut was due to the pace fo the scene.

Think the reason the close-up wasn't used was because of the hard winds at Mount Sunday, it made the spit not hit Viggo Mortensen's hand but actually make a sharp corner and fly off so they had no choice to skip it. It's bee cofmirmed in the behind the scenes documentaries.

I think in the commentaries Peter Jackson said something about Gandalf being gone for 6-8 weeks

It is confirmed that Gríma Womtounge did poison Théodred as Christopher Lee in the Return of the King actors' commentary says that's what Saruman told him to do, which in turn is a reference to the book when Saruman ordered to kill and probably eat the corpse of Lotho Sackville-Baggins who had control over The Shire while the hobbits were gone (he and his mother Lobela Sackville-Baggins bought Bag End from Frodo in the book as an explaination why he leaves Hobbiton, to shae off Sauron's followers).

One of the unused Treebeard lines he says "Hobbits? They're not on the old lists." reffering to a bit in the book when Treebeard tries to go throw a list of different creatures such as Men, Elves, Dwarves, Ents and several animals. Either Merry or Pippin suggest to add The Hobbits next to Men in the list, which he later confirms at the Ent Moot that the ents include hobbits in the list.

Talk about suffering for your art 😆

I love that he had to do it in costume, so all the crew would look out and see Boromir out there being a total badass

I don't expect a newer extended edition but I certainly want an anniversary edition with those extra scenes as seperate deleted scenes to be released. Come on, Warner Bros! Just let Jackson release them already because it'll mean more money for you!

I do set decoration at the high school level. I pay quite a bit of attention to detail and someone asked me why I put so much effort into the set. I want the kids to feel like they are performing on a real stage and not some lame effort to "make do".
