I'm a long-time player of LotRO, and I think your review was very fair. The sad truth is that since High Elves (and Stout-Axes and Beornings) were first implemented as purchased content, their starting zones were not implemented with new players in mind, resulting in the extremely unsatisfying start they provide. As you saw, normal elves (and honestly all of the original races for the game) give a much stronger first impression. Overall you give a really honest and accurate overview of the game's strengths and weaknesses, and I think this would really help a prospective buyer to figure out if the game is for them. LOTR's robust music system is fairly symbolic: Arda was created by the song of the Ainur according to Tolkien, which means that having a good music system is in a sense an absolute must to be faithful to Tolkien.

I remember when ddo and lotro came out from turbine, I had to stop playing due to the amount of space that both occupied and the lag spikes that would ruin missions. I still remember sneaking as a dwarf ranger to literally mordor, I was finally killed by a orc archer level 90 I believe.I feel that the crafting system was unique tho, no game out there had a system from growing and making tobacco or smiting metal working carpentry jewelry. And then there was how ingredients were from the wilds like taters or the skyrim style mining ore and finding uncut gems.

You need to read the dialog and the text .. It is what makes the story shine.. going into settings why main story is told is an anti pattern. And do not use the level up possibility thou miss out on a lot of fun.

Brawler is not premium class ... Brawler is the main part of the latest expansion. All classes were since the launch connected with expansions.

My pleasure. AFAIK, Steam players share the same servers as non-Steam. I do not think you are forced to play through Steam (as that platform forces to load the original launcher anyways). 🥰

To my knowledge there is no official Discord for the game, and the unofficial community Discord imploded about a month ago. However, a new one had spun up which you can check out called "Lord of the Rings" under the Public Discord servers. 💖

LOTRO has very minimal Voice Acting, this has always been how they've done things. There is no indication that LOTRO will ever have more than very limited amounts of Voice Acting. The High Elf Intro is showing off the Second Age and the Battle of Dagorlad before the Black Gate of Mordor during the Last Alliance of Elves & Men in their War against Sauron. High Elves in Tolkien's Lore are "Powerful Beings" and why your High Elf Character is strong against almost every Enemy during this Introduction. There is a Story Element for the High Elf Class when the Introduction is over which is how any High Elf Character will deal with things at the start of the Main Game World. UI Work is something that the SSG LOTRO Team have talked about but no ETA or Details about it.

@@MarleMMO all you need is a minstrel mentor to teach your character to play instruments. If your class is not a minstrel. And if you don't want to use the buttons. There is abc files that will play the songs for you

I've played LOTRO on and off since 2012. The reason why I always quit is because of the lag. I average 120ms at all times, but on any other game, I average 12ms. This is because there are no servers outside of the US, and all the EU servers are EU only in name and are still located in the US. So, 120ms + poorly maintained servers + constant stability issues + peak times = a bad experience. Enjoying everything LOTRO has to offer is impossible when your character is spazzing all over the place :'( The fact there are no servers in England, the country Middle-Earth is essentially inspired by, is crazy. Also, the UI breaks if you play above 1080p *cries in 4k*. This is not me saying LOTRO is a bad game; I am merely saying SSG need to sort out the server lag if they want players outside of the US to play. It is not a very nice welcome for new European players when they find out there are no European servers.

i want to play this game so bad since i love tolkien's work. i played every middle earth game , even war in the north. unironically i havent seen LOTRO until i found the game's AD on some game news site like 4 years ago. unfortunately i see the game is reall outdated. even more than WoW. i want to play this game , i saw an amazing world, locations, details, easter eggs and more but outdated mechanics, graphics.... i would play it but it would exhaust me. this game needs a remaster or remake.... cmon. especially now when WoW is going downhill

Doubtful there will be a Remaster or Remake for LOTRO. I would suggest giving LOTRO an honest try and keep in mind, Early LOTRO as of Update 33 is still pretty much the same as it was for say Questing as they were 10+ Years ago. LOTRO does have a HUGE amount of immersion. It's the largest Lord of the Rings Game, purely based on the Book for it's Lore.

OK, so you picked the worst opening race. I will grant that the high elf has the worst starting scenario. Anybody looking to get into the game should roll a standard elf hunter or a human champion as their first character.

Also note that you chose classes listed as advanced or moderate. They are fun for those of us that have some experience but only after rolling a basic character. If you want to make it hard by starting with a warden have at it, but don't complain that it has a steep learning curve.

Since the review is geared towards newer players, I wanted to showcase the HE since it was provided for free. Alternatively, I chose elf because I personally was fond of their starting area (you can see that I have a 40 elven warden at the beginning of the video). I think the complexity of LOTRO classes are just about right in terms of difficulty. I just wish that the difficulty slider for overworld content was already implemented for non-legendary servers. 💖
