Thank you for this informative video, Mary. One question...what is “GM” as you refer to with card stock? TIA
@marypolancodesigns4 жыл бұрын
I don't know what GM stands for but it really is the best way to tell you how sturdy the cardstock is. Sometimes it is in "gsm" as well. So essentially don't just go by the "lb" of cardstock, look at the g/m or gsm. The higher the number the heavier the cardstock.
@justinesantiago89554 жыл бұрын
Claudia Hi! According to a paper company on the internet this is what they say: Hope this helps! GSM is an acronym standing for ‘Grams per Square Meter’. Quite simply, it allows print buyers and print suppliers to know exactly about the quality of paper that is being ordered. The higher the GSM number, the heavier the paper. 35gsm to 55gsm: This is very thin paper indeed. Most newspapers will commonly be printed on this paper thickness. 90gsm to 100gsm: This is the weight of most household printer paper. The stuff you might pick up in packs of 500 sheets at the office depot. 120gsm to 140gsm: This GSM range covers the paper thickness of most posters you’re likely to find on pub walls etc. Paper with this GSM is sturdy enough to withstand a bit of wear and tear. Its also the thickness of low-cost flyers you might have had posted through your front door by minicab companies and the like. 210gsm to 300gsm: Moving onto premium flyers now. This GSM range will cover most of the sturdy printed flyers you get given in the high street. This paper stock range is approaching card but will still have a bit of a bend when held with two fingers. Think of the magazine covers you see on the racks at newsagents. This is StuPrint.com’s preferred paper weight when it comes to orders of 5000 glossy promotional flyers (£72.50). 350gsm to 400gsm: This GSM is essentially card. It will stand up under its own weight and is most commonly associated with premium flyers and business cards. As well, it is likely to be the stock that high-quality wedding invitations are printed on.

Just as an FYI. If you're not overly concerned about being pretty, Harbor Freight has anti-fatigue mats that are MUCH cheaper than the kitchen versions I've seen! Yes, they are meant for garage or workshop spaces, and so are not what you might consider attractive. While I have never tried theirs specifically, I did get a package of Craftsman brand ones at Sears several years ago. I have them for my woodworking stations in our garage, & they are great! They are squares with notches along all 4 sides, so you can hook them together in different configurations. I think I paid like $9 or so for 6 mats, which are each maybe 18x18" (give or take). The ones at Harbor Freight look pretty much the same. Personally, I would just as soon save some $$$ on stuff like that and have more to spend on useful things like stamps & dies! ;) Who cares about looks, right??? LOL Anyway, thanks for sharing all this info, Mary! I'm especially impressed with the cardstock comparisons. Take care, & I hope you have an awesome day! :)

I had to pause at the bag sealer to say how impressed I am that your seal was so straight! I can't imagine I would do anything other than a zig-zag mess (which could be a cool effect if it's intentional, I guess. ) That looks so easy when you do it. Back to the video & will return with more comments later.
@laurabuehler4 жыл бұрын
Back to finish commenting. I have never purchased the Purple tape because I have heard such mixed reviews. I think I'll just stick (see what I did there?) with my inexpensive masking tape and the blue painter's tape. I'm putting the Rock, Paper, Scissors removable label paper into my Amazon Cart right now. I've seen other people recommend other brands of removable label paper, and, even though they are less expensive than traditional masking paper, I never felt as though the choices were much of a savings. The Rock, Paper, Scissors brand really looks like a bargain & you can buy 25, 100, 250 (and higher) amounts at at time. I'm all about saving so this is a great option. That Fiskars silicone mat caught my eye & it's now in my cart. I've used White Out to cover up mistakes, but I never thought of using it for highlights. As for paper I love the comparison just to show the difference in the color. The brightness of the Accent Opaque is amazing. And you are correct about the GSM. I once made a mistake of buying 80 lb Neenah Index "cardstock," and I had to send it back because it was barely thicker than typing paper. The GSM really gives you the thickness. I'm putting both of your choices in my cart. One thing you didn't mention along with the GSM is how they work with die cutting. I have some black cardstock that is very thick (I somehow lost the packaging to show where it came from & the actual GSM.) I have made tiny die cut letters out of it, and you know how difficult tiny items are to manipulate. With the thicker cardstock they are easy to pick up and move around. You know how people will glue 3-4 together to make them stand out? With the thicker cardstock you can get away with one or two layers and they stick out on their own.
@laurabuehler4 жыл бұрын
I did some digging in case anyone's interested in that black cardstock that I love so much. It's Black Licorice 100# Heavyweight Cover from Cardstock Warehouse Paper Company through Amazon. It's a little pricey as you only get 25 sheets, but I am in love with this paper. Please be sure to enter through any of Mary's Amazon links if you want to search for it and/or buy it so she will get credit for the purchase.

another awesome video, Mary, full of brilliant and very useful ideas, I had a thought about the foam you're using on the edge of your desk, could you cut a slit in a dollar store pool worm, or stick or whatever they're called and use that?, also I've heard repeatedly that electric sharpeners are really hard on colored pencils have you had any issues with breaking tips or the pencils getting "chewed up"?, I hope not, I am disabled and can't use the "proper" manual ones, as I only have the use of one hand, so an electric that won't ruin my pencils would truly be a game-changer, also, have you tried post-it tape? if so, how did it work out?

Hi Gina! Thank you so much, I am hoping they are useful! The makeup brushes; try CVS, or Dollar General. Some have said they got them from there too. You only really need one...and if you want to get fancy, one for every color of the rainbow. And those holders are incredible!!!

I believe it would be called snot tape because of the adhesive. You know that clear adhesive they use on mailers, perfume, what ever. You can peel it off and roll it in a ball. The glue/adhesive is called snot glue.

I was able to find the links but unfortunately was unable to find the holders that you featured. It only showed brushes that were all together like in a container or make up bag. Sad to see that they don't ship to NZ. I was surprised to see that written on the linked page which btw showed a big brush in a holder.

I hada stroke and my left side is now completely useless so I cannot use the manual sharpeners for my pencils so I have tried many electrics, and asked many users the best one I have found that does the least damage to my pencils is the school smart vertical sharpener it is corded, no batteries, but has not over-sharpened or broken a tip yet! I highly recommend it!!
