- 3mm Single Strand Twisted Cotton String
Hey guys! This berry knot pattern is a little more detailed than Monday’s pattern. We will use double half hitch knots and berry knots to create this semi-circle pattern. Let’s get started.
Set up - cut 1 piece of rope that is 2 meters in length and fold it so that there is 1.4m on one side and 0.6m on the other. Attach it to your dowel using a Lark’s Head knot so that the 1.4m section is on the right side of your work.
Using the longer cord, tie another Lark’s Head knot to your work leaving the rope loose in between both of your Lark’s Head knots.
Cut 10 more pieces of rope, each piece is 1.4m long. Fold in half and attach to your work using Lark’s Head knots.
Adjust the cord to get rid of the extra space left on the side of your semi-circle.
Using the cord on the left as your filler cord tie 10 horizontal double half hitch knots working to the right.
Using the cord on the right as your filler cord tie 10 horizontal double half hitch knots working to the left.
Tie one more double half hitch knot with your two filler cords to connect the 2 sides.
Starting on the left, tie 6 alternating half square knots (3 alternating square knots). Grab the 2 middle cords and thread them through the middle of the 4 cords at the top of your work. Bring those cords back around the bottom and tie one more square knot (2 half square knots) to hold the berry knot in place.
Repeat this process 3 more times tying one more berry knot on the left side of your work and two berry knots on the right side of your work.
Tie one more berry knot in the middle - I wanted to make this berry knot will a bit bigger so tie your square knots around 4 strands (instead of 2) and tie 8 alternating half square knots (4 alternating square knots) instead of 6.
4 more times as you move along your work. The middle berry knot will use the 2 cords that were hanging down from your Lark’s Head Knots at the top as the outer cords for that berry knot.
Thanks so much for watching!

Very beautiful I love it I tried doing that I think you call it the half not where you go under through and you tie like a knot and then you can like you’ve got there and you go around in a circle. I done it in the middle of my macramé project and it’s a little wobbly how if you have it in the middle and not up against something how can you make it more even

What do you use to get exact measurements for your cord?? Something I'm struggling with!
@LotsofKnotsCanada

Here is my recommendation when it comes to cutting your cords: A more complex design with more knots will require more rope and a simple design requires less. A general guideline that I use - cut your rope 4-8x the length of your finished product. For example, if you would like your finished product to be 1m in length, cut your rope 4-8m in length and then use Lark’s Head knots to attach (one strand then becomes two strands that are 2-4m in length). I always cut more rope than I think I need just to be safe! If I have leftovers I just use them for feathers, keychains, etc.
