+@sandmangti7040 💪 you have an Elise? What mods have you done or are you considering?

Recently upgraded battery to Zero Gravity. 30lb drop in weight. Right at 1% drop in weight just for battery. So much easier to set in. High cost however.

@@sandmangti7040 ooh… great idea. I have one in my Cayman. I was just thinking this Elise is too heavy! 😝 🍻

Really glad you have done this video, i have Elise that has been in the family for 21 years and this will be the first job once I have the funds. Cheers for the upload 👌😁👍

Tip on the tightening of pivot points in suspension, is they need to be under load then torqued down, so that they won't have the bushings in a bind. Place a support under the lower suspension arm in the area of the ball joint and lower the car till it barely lifts off the frame; then tighten the fasteners to spec .
@HelpMeDIY9 ай бұрын
+@warrenlucier5796 are you sure that’s true for an Elise? I’m having a full alignment after it’s all back together
@warrenlucier57969 ай бұрын
@@HelpMeDIY Yes, for all suspension, and the only items that wouldn't require that are spherical ends, as they have no bind in them. Sorry, but I thought it was important for you to know about that item.
@HelpMeDIY9 ай бұрын
+@warrenlucier5796 absolute! Thanks.

@@warrenlucier5796 You are right, I know it for a fact for a Porsche 996! Otherwise you've to replace them after a couple of month again.
@warrenlucier57969 ай бұрын
@@achimo.9917 Yes, the suspension must be in the spot between full droop and full compression, and that is where it is weighted and travels through the intended arch of travel.

Great video! Actually doesnt look as bad as I feared. I have new bushing waiting for me to replace!
@HelpMeDIY8 ай бұрын
+@grifler thanks! Yeah it’s not too bad once you figure a few things out. 🍻

Are you sure about brake caliper torque 45Nm only? Just wondering, seems to be low (Porsche 996 = 90Nm / M10)
@HelpMeDIY9 ай бұрын
+@achimo.9917 that’s what the manual says…. If you held that thing you probably wouldn’t be worried. It’s maybe a quarter of the weight of a 996 caliper.

The upright is aluminium so the threads would be stripped at lower torque than in a steel upright.

The caster washers are the worst job. You're lucky, on my S2 there are multiple washers on one side that all need to be lined up. I found that using a thin punch tool did the best job of pulling them into alignment. The fuse box attachment looks really janky. It's entirely possible Lotus did it that way, but I doubt it. Definitely not the way the S2 is assembled.
@HelpMeDIY8 ай бұрын
+@justaddafan yeah, with the fuse box… you can never be sure when you buy a used car 😆
@HelpMeDIY8 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing that info. That’s why I ask if people are sure and not just guessing because I was PRETTY sure that wasn’t necessary
@justaddafan8 ай бұрын
@@HelpMeDIY Definitely not necessary. Not sure where he got that.

the fuse box is fitted like that from the factory I think

So I have done this job myself on my S1 back in 2016. What I will say is that it's not "technically" difficult, but if you don't have a car lift like this guy it's a bitch in terms of access. I did it with the car outside on axle stands on my gravel driveway and it took forever. If I was going to do it again I would definitely find somewhere indoors and probably buy a set of QuickJacks if I couldn't find a lift, or a pit.

+@greyknightsrealm8251 oh man, my hat is off to you for doing this outside in gravel! 💪🍻
