It honestly sounds like you’re spiralling. I think enjoy the cars you have and accept them for what they are instead of constantly comparing to others. I’ve been in the same head space before and it ruins the ownership experience. Maybe in a few years have a look to swap/add to the collection but for now I’d focus on what you have and try not to compare every car you review. My two cents.

@@redcarrot1148 I love ND2 Miatas. With some inexpensive suspension tweaks, they are literally a scalpel on track. So, there are moments when I question my purchase of a GTS 4.0 over saving a *lot* of money with a lightly modded ND2. Then I wind the F out of it, hit a couple of turns where I can really feel the way a mid-engined car rotates, and I think, "Nah, I'm good." I left a 992 GTS for an Emira. Modified the Emira a lot -- 3rd cat delete, tune, lightweight battery, lowered.. I love the Emira more as its very very connected far more fufilling to drive. The car becomes an extension of you. Modern porsches (911's that I've had) are more capable but are pretty boring to drive. My 992 was incredible at going over 100 mph. But muted and kinda boring otherwise. Heck, the emira is fun to CHANGE LANES IN at 50 mph. :)

S2K and 991.2 GT3 would be a perfect garage. Although I'm not sure the S2K is that much of an upgrade from your ND3. The engine is, but I would argue that the rest of the package is better on the ND3.

I was making the same decision between a GTS 4.0 vs Emira a little over a year ago. Ended up with the Boxster GTS 4.0 with manual transmission. No regrets at all! Only thing I felt the Lotus had over the Boxster was the exterior design. Otherwise I think it's hard to beat the much more emotional engine, superior build quality, and confident handling. Much respect to all Emira owners, however, as I feel you have to be an enthusiast to even be making the choice!
@aaronbryan5095

At that price point I'd also definitely take the GTS 4.0, mainly because it feels like a car that has been developed and manufactured by a company that has money, meanwhile the Emira still has a bit of that built in a shed feel that Lotuses always have. If we go much further down the price range I would go for the Supra.

Agree with the S2000 + 991.2 GT3 combo. Or a GT4 first as the next step before the GT3: you will enjoy it more on track and it’s good enough on the street/weekend car in spite on the long gearing. The experience of owning an Emira will serve you well in narrowing down that perfect formula of what you really value in a car.
@MacellaioNero
@MacellaioNero 10 күн бұрын
If the issue he has with the 4.0 Boxster is that it feels too planted and composed on street, then the GT4 is just the same problem but worse (and I say that as an owner). It's not really "good enough" on the street - like most modern Porsches, it's too good. Too competent, too serious, they just want to grip and go. They're a dream to anyone who prefers that, and a hoot at 9-10 tenths on a track, but they are not playful like a Miata or an Emira. A GT3 gets away with it's serious handling because the engine is genuinely fizzy, but a GT4 can't cheat the system in the same way. Great track cars, but not at all what this guy seems to be looking for based on the vid.

@@maximborodyuk3773 Thanks for your terrible comment. "NAH, YOU'RE WRONG, AND NO, I WON'T BOTHER TO EXPLAIN WHY!" ?? What's wrong with you? They're great at the limit - linear, predictable, and communicative. That's why they're so popular among track enthusiasts (see: any day of the week at the Nordschleife) - but they do need a proper alignment to compensate for the weaknesses of the MacPherson strut suspension design (as do most generations of GT3). Maybe you just drove a shit one with factory alignment (e.g. most of them). Or maybe you haven't driven one at all and are just talking bullshit.

@@MacellaioNero what to explain to you? Someone would not make such an ignorant comment to being with. They're anything but linear,predictable and communicative. You can't overcome strut limitations, it's physically impossible - as unlike 911, it has it both front&rear. They're popular not because of a single reason. I drove race prepped cayman S & GT4 & GT4 Clubsport (factory race car). Sufficient enough? Did you actually drive them on the limit and compare to other platforms? Almost any decent sportscar is better once you sufficiently track prep them (not comparing apples to oranges).
@MacellaioNero
@MacellaioNero 3 күн бұрын
@@maximborodyuk3773 You drove three RACE prepped 718s and found them hard to handle on limit??? 1) that's not what we're talking about. Race prepped and track prepped road cars aren't the same thing. You ARE comparing apples to oranges. 2) sounds like driver skill issue, sorry. If they were shit race cars, they wouldn't be frequent series winners. As for struts, no you can't completely overcome strut limitations, but you can minimise the disadvantages with proper setup and geometry. Can you get them to handle as well as any generation of GT3? Not in my experience, no - multilink rear is superior. But you can get them to be linear, predictable, and communicative with very little effort. I've driven every generation of GT3 on track, and owned a 718 Spyder for 3 years. I'm not a pro, but I do have a pretty wide band of experience, I've driven track prepped Miatas, spec series BMWs, purpose built one off track cars, Ginettas, Caterhams, and plenty more. All on track. By comparison to any of them, I'd argue my Spyder from factory was mediocore at the limit, pushing in most corners, putting way too much heat into the tyres from a pretty obvious lack of camber that the platform is known for (and is what you expect of any modern road car from factory, for safety, including GT3s). Proper alignment solved 90% of the problem - and mods to enable additional suspension adjustability (top plates, toe links) dailed in most of the last 10%. It's not a perfect platform by any means, I wouldn't want to race them, struts will always be a limiting factor due to the camber curve. But, you can absolutely get them to be fun and predictable at 9/10 tenths. You throwing a tantrum and telling me "NO YOU JUST IGNORANT, BLAH BLAH" is just pointless. I've LIVED it. I've DONE it. You may as well tell me food doesn't taste good, or the sky isn't blue.

I test drove an Emira around this time last year. I, too, hit the rev limiter (twice) in my brief drive. The tach graphic is definitely lagging behind actual RPM - have to go by sound. Speaking of which, the SC's banshee-like scream made me want to keep the throttle planted as the RPM climbed only to hit the limiter wall seemingly prematurely. Still a great car though. Also agree that it's a great street car but too quirky for track performance if lapse time means anything to the driver.

First off I've always loved Porsche, and I've owned an S2000 for 7 years.... the promise of Emira was superb. It IS a beautiful thing, inside and out. Reviews have waxed lyrical about its handling, performance and dynamics... I personally decided on a Spyder because I wanted an open top. But had I wanted a coupe I'd still have gone for a Porsche, and my decision would still have been supported by the fact of a seriously compromised production run for the Emira, the issues that owners are facing are numerous and that's born out by recent job cuts in England sadly. The Emira SHOULD have been a total sell out swansong before the Chinese EV onslaught. A sign off for analogue excellence. But British production quality control has undermined that. I am happy that others take the plunge though as I get to look at it which is always a win, but for me...a 981 Spyder offers everything I seek.

So nothing but love for your personal choice , I own a 930 turbo , Porsche has introduced 100s of fancy newer models , but all those buyers still have unlimited love for my 930 , and I feel no need to ever replace it with a newer turbo model .. Personally, and as I say this as a previous Lotus owner and still a fan, I think the Emira was a little over hyped because it looks so good and it's not as common as a Porsche. Over and over people would say "oh a Porsche is boring, they're a dime a dozen, get something unique and pure like a Lotus that feels special", but in terms of how they actually drive, you're not gonna top a GT car.. and apart from steering feedback, the Lotus is inferior in every way. If someone has a problem with how a modern GT car drives, it's the driver, not the car imo. I would keep Miata, but swap Emira for GT3. Miata is whimsical & fun, GT3 is engineering precision. Good balance imo.

@@jubbalandcars Not trying to be confrontational, my point just being that I think you'll find a lot of discrepancy in opinions based on driver skill level. For example, many forum/comment experts will say over and over that a Cayman/Boxster has a superior chassis to the 911 because of mid-engine balance. While you'll find that people like Patrick Long, pro racing driver, or Randy Pobst, again, pro racing driver, prefer the 911. Heck, when I went from a Boxster to a 911, I felt like the 911 was worse until I figured out how to properly drive it. I felt like I was a good driver before, that I had mastered trailbraking, when in fact, I very much hadn't. Took me forever practicing with the GT3 Cup Car on iRacing, and now, I can certainly understand why people will say a 911 understeers, especially older ones, but a properly set up and driven 991 or newer, imo doesn't. It's all in loading up that front and bravery on corner entry. I think a Cayman/Boxster is easier on the street though, where you really can't truly go 10/10ths. I think that's why Walter Röhrl said the GT4 was better on canyons.

Fellow ex 86 Miata owner, now current Evora owner. Sorry to hear about your experience but I think you should continue to give it a few more chances before deciding. While not exactly like the emira, I've been casually tracking the Evora past 3 years with stock pads and have found the car to be very potent on track and capable of hanging with some of the higher class faster/race cars. In fact, I pretty much felt the exact opposite as you...while yes the shifting needs some care but the pads are plenty and the car has good consistent pace and felt agile and quick, I had a ton more fun on the track compared to the street and will never go back to a miata/86. I'll say that I went to the UK recently and did the official Lotus track experience and drove their Emira on the hethel track...it was very familiar to the evora but felt a bit more heavier and sluggish but still a very capable track car (mind you, they didn't let us put it in race mode) What I'd suggest is flushing your trans fluid and putting in some better fluids like Motul 300 75w90 (not LS), that should highly improve the shifting on track (as it did for me) and adjust your shifting to be more gentle and it'll work with you, which will obviously take time to get used to but will result in a far better experience. Its interesting you overheated your pads as thats the first I'm hearing of it but the emira is a bit heavier, regardless, you can upgrade the pads to something more track focused but Lotus engineers have discouraged that because of ABS calibration but plenty of owners have made the upgrade. No need to worry about oil temps as the car has sufficient cooling. Other than that, you don't really anything else, its great as is out of the box. Unless you're really serious about track duty and plan to go more track oriented, I'd encourage you to keep trying it out and I'm sure you'll grow to love the car.

Very interesting. While I disagree with some parts of your Emira reviews, I 100% agree it boils down to priorities. Emira is a stunning looking car that one could drive out of the dealer’s lot in 2024, there really isn’t anything out there comparable. It also is a very comfortable car for public roads. I do think it’s more of a car that is great when driven at 0 to 6 or 7 out of 10th. Porsches in general are more for running at the higher part of the window when you drive it at 5 to 10 of 10. There are a number of distractions on the Emira, mainly to do with the inputs (shifter and the 3 pedals) feeling somewhat soft/vague/non-linear/not direct. These are less apparent at lower speeds, or in fact, more suitable for lower speeds. I am a little surprised many feel the engine is great, as it was one of the main frustrations I had (particularly the low redline). Anyway, I am not even sure if one could get a new 982 Cayman/Boxster anymore. So Emira is the only one left. Emira still is a great car on its own. I am not so sure if the non-GT Porsche cars are entirely great on track either. It’s more of a question of what part of car’s potential range are you placing the emphasis on to - note I am not saying road vs track. Putting the reliability part aside, the Porsche cars are more of a product that responds to the driver’s input very well, but uses the less-than-ideal setup. Porsche does not have the racing “tub”, doesn’t use double wishbone suspension, and moved to an electric rack. Porsches are just much less unique; they are everywhere, and they broadly look the same. All that said, buying used does support some of the manufacturers. Positive ownership experience reviews fuel used car prices and overall sentiment. This shows up in used parts sales and services. As far as 991.2 GT3 goes, that’s just a whole new ball of wax. It is a car double in price vs Emira’s, and likely go down in history as one of the best modern driver’s car - much like the 997.2 GT3s. Unfortunately it’s “only another 911”. It won’t be unique for anyone looking to be a non-conformist.

I got a much more planted car with very noticeable gains in sharpness, responsiveness and grip. Initially, the ride was a bit too firm for the street, so they revalved them for a nominal charge. Did you get a touring suspension or a track suspension? That may have to do a lot with when you drove your car on track?

I am conflicted as I bought a GR86 for track and street. I love the car for both, but not ideal for trying to do both causing short comings. The real answer I think is to have a dedicated track car and a street car, I think that would solve most problems.

-3 camber or even -4 should be good for dual duty. Get something like xidas which do very well on road and track.

I own a GTS 4.0 and I cross-shopped this car. I think this car is beautiful but disagree with your opinion that the Porsche isn't as beautiful. This car is sexy/hot but the Porsche is timeless. The fact is, you "don't plan on keeping this car forever", because it isn't a Porsche. Both are beautiful cars, but you state opinions like facts. You may be correct the Porsche is "clinical", but when you say the Emira is an "occasion" to drive as if the GTS 4.0 isn't... you are clearly delirious, bro.

Looks are subjective. Bigger problem is how most people just parrot off others. Take the Porsche Cayman GT4 as an example. Talk to real tuners and people who actually drive these things on the track. The problem with tall gearing isn’t in 2nd. Somehow everyone became a gearing expert after an influencer spoke to AP and mentioned about tall gearing at the launch interview.

Here’s some raw ugly thoughts about how well a sport car behave on track: most people complain about certain cars are too slow on a track, just to feel better as the owner. They need that track performance “potential”to show off during conversations, and acting like they will constantly go to track, and certainly have the ability to push the car to its limit. However, more than 90% of people online can’t even push a Camry to its limit on track. It is never about rather a car is fast enough, but it’s about rather a car has a performance “potential” to brag in front of others. Just face it, haters, even if one day you finally earned enough cash to purchase your dreaming 992 GT3RS, you still might not earn respect in the track community. Yes, your car is the fastest from all who come to track day, but is your last time the fastest? Ask yourself how much of that laptime is the computer fixing all the mistake you make by hands and foot. And for those who constantly reached goes to track, like those ultimate track rat, they won’t most likely complain about it. There are two ways to choice cars for track duty: 1. Buy a M-power bmw, or Porsche, keep it mostly stock, change paddle, fluid, and tires if necessary, and go enjoy flying lap after lap without worrying about reliability and coolings. You actually end up saving a lot more money than someone trying to use aftermarket parts. 2. Buy the car to love, and use aftermarket parts to fix all the issue. If the engine loves to blows up, buy some parts and swap them before it happens; if it overheats, add cooling; if the suspension is too soft, swapped them out, etc. The bottom line is, people should not look done on someone who choice the second option. We all know M-power and Porsche the the automat choice if you want to experience zero issue. The same way of us knowing do clutch transmission is faster than manual, and also knowing that EVs will soon make all the ICE performance car pointless. Sometime the emotion from a car is more important to some people than the “subjectively best car option”. Some car can be perfect from an engineering perspective, but doesn’t earn the love from car enthusiast. If you understand why Porsche swap out the efficient and fast turbo 4s out of 718, and put an naturally aspirated flat 6 in, you should understand the point of people enjoying Lotus.

Most people can’t afford a weekend sports car nor go to track. Other than dealer and support problems, the look of the Emira is just trying too hard for what it’s not. An older Porsche would be the best all rounder for so many reasons.
