We have been waiting a long time for these new Emiras to arrive in New Zealand, and we are very fortunate to be able to drive and to film this Hethel Yellow Emira with Sports Spec! It's amazing to see how much improvement and design upgrades Lotus have done to set the Emira apart from the older Evora, Elise, and Exige models. Agree with your comment about it being less hard core than the Exige . . . but I think that's exactly what Lotus was aiming for. Emira is really a modern Esprit, rather than a replacement for the Exige.

Yes, totally agree, and more people will be able to accept and buy these kind of cars. The Exige is meant for hard-core enthusiasts 😆. Have you driven a Lotus before?

@@sundaymorningdrives Unfortunately, I only experience it through videos. It looks great and is a step-up quality-wise vs the Evora, and I'm look forward to their more powerful versions. Did you do an in-depth comparison vs your Exiges? That would be a great video!

​@@sundaymorningdrives I am an happy Lotus Elise 250 Cup owner & have a deposit for an Emira V6 FE manual gearbox. Totally loved the test driving. It is quite souple on suspension, very quick. It's a great GT.

@TheOrangeEliseCup250 Yes, it's less feelsome compared to the Elise though, but quality and styling is definitely a huge upgrade

Great review. Most of your comments is like describing the first generation NSX when it was introduced. For example the tall gears, usability and refinement. Lotus basically used the NSX formula on this car.

That is interesting you comparing it to the NSX, we have never driven one, but have heard good things about it, and I think most JDM sports cars from that Era have pretty soft suspension setup, like my S2000, it's great for daily use, but the gearing in my S2000 is super short though. Do you own a NSX?

By the way, you take some shots where the cars look very good and the comments are just what really matters, that's why I think it is the best video of this car, because it can be seen from many angles that give an idea of how it can be see live. You mentioned the body roll being ‘worse’ than the exige. I have an Emira on order. Ivy wife will be able to go in the Emira as a passenger and not throw up. That’s a first for Lotus. 😂 I think they’ve nailed it.

Body roll is definitely more noticeable in the Emira, because it's not as focused as the Exige. But as you said, they've done a good job with it, and it's a sportscar you can daily and take on long trips with.

Liked your video; a point to ponder would be how this compares and contrasts with the car it really replaces, the Evora, not the Exige.

Yes, Agree, it will be interesting if we could get our hands on a Evora to compare, which are pretty rare in NZ tbh. But from our understanding and impressions, I think the Emira is just more refined in terms of quality, ride, and dynamics

Having troubling with 1 option before ordering: touring or sports suspension?

I would say Sport if your car is your weekend car, because it would just handle a bit better, and feels a bit more special. And the sport suspension is not that firm anyway

I think so, it's got much more room than the previous Lotuses. And the steering column and seats are very adjustable. You thinking of buying one?

@@brianhimmelman420You can always tune or chip it to put out more hp. From the reviews Ive seen, it sounds like the chasis and brakes are more than up to the task for handling another 100 bhp.

i like more 2.0 engine AMG automatic be top smooth car and i no fan or no like this toyota engine i like how done with fix engine superchager is top worth.

The AMG engine should be interesting, but the Toyota engine do have it's character too. Have you driven one?

Amg engine has a lot of turbo lag v6 smoother power at low rpm

@@sundaymorningdrives yes also not to mention service? It’s already maxed out with horsepower and will get super hot due to turbo and might not be as reliable as v6

@bman1668 yes, I agree, the Toyota V6 has been with Lotus for a long time, and it's definitely tried and tested, but the AMG 2 liter might be more tunable and have more potential down the road
