Thanks Rich for the honest review. Because Toyota made the engine, it should be very reliable which will help with Lotus' reputation. Which would you go for, a low mile F430 or the Emira? I'm leaning heavily to the F430. I just think its more car for the same money.
@RichReviews_ Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, sorry but in my book Ferrari trumps pretty much anything but to be fair the price difference between the 430 and Emira is substantial so not a fair comparison. 😃
@samgao Жыл бұрын
Read up on the Toyota engine: one of the biggest flaws is that this engine is prone to leaks. Make sure you take good care of it!
@tonymoreton7166 Жыл бұрын
Ferrari will cost a lot more to run, but if you've factored that in, do the Ferrari. Nothing drives the same.

@@RichReviews_ I just looked at the configurator for the US. I don't know how much options cost, because the US configurator wasn't accepting any builds, but with a base before options of $93k, the price differential isn't substantial.

Thanks for your detailed unbiased review. I've actually signed up for one of these but I'm waiting for the one with the AMG twin-turbo engine since I want DCT. I currently have a BMW M2 Comp which I love. It's a fun, practical 4-seater coupe with over 400 torquey horses. I'm wondering if I'll prefer the Emira over it. Can't wait to test drive the Emira!

No you would have to do this manually.

I drove the car at Gator Motorsports in Indianapolis USA. Power delivery was the biggest surprise. The Emira lacks low end torque which requires high revs to get the power out of the engine. Above 4500 rpm the engine wakes up and power is ample for street driving

Yes sport mode 90% of the time.
@davepaturno4290 Жыл бұрын
That's a bit puzzling, as the typical advantage of a supercharger is that it provides power throughout the engine's rev range. Single turbocharged engines have a lag that is very obvious in rolling start 0-60 mph runs. None of the V6 Emira reviews I've read included mention of low power, early in the rev range. Then again, if you're used to driving a McLaren, I can understand such a statement.
@gp1683 Жыл бұрын
@@davepaturno4290 It really surprised me. I thought that perhaps the demo I was driving was de-tuned. But the way the engine in that car was tuned required a lot of revs to get power

@RichReviews they're not cheap and I want a modern car that looks like an old-school Ferrari. So it's probably cheaper to make a custom body kit than it is to buy a 1980's Ferrari just for the body and replace everything else.

As long as you can accept the devaluation of the Emira in doing this. At the end of the day a base Emira will set you back 60k+ which is no short change when used as a donor car.

The cayman gts/gt4 can be had near new. Even the 2.5T will blow this away.
@RichReviews_ Жыл бұрын
The base price of the GT4 is more than the retail of the Emira FE let alone being way over the Emira base straight 4 AMG so no comparison. Also, to be fair, IMO the Emira knocks the looks of the Cayman into touch.
@Jay-xr3sb Жыл бұрын
@@RichReviews_ but realistically, there is a back log of emira orders, only those looking to flip for 10-15k overs. In a few years they will be everywhere and priced a lot lower. Last I looked, a gt4 with sub 10k miles is isn't far off, the gts is my preference and low milage used is £65-70k. If you're talking about the emira amg then it's not available. I would like to see how that performs, but again, a cayman 2.5t gts/s is 50k near new now. it'll outperform due to weight/power and PDK. Completely agree on the Emira looks, it's impressive and fresh vs or others. The first edition car is an average mid reving engine. It is heavy and slow for its class. They should have started at a higher level.of performance if they are moving to hybrid soon. It could be last hurrah soon and they want to trickle out performance. Clearly I'm more price consious, buy it for the looks and attention if money is no object. If I had the cash I'd go spyder. Currently I aspire for the gts 4.0 and then await the hybrid sports generation.
@RichReviews_ Жыл бұрын
IMHO not fair to compare a new model with second hand prices…gotta compare apples with apples. 😁 When did you drive the Emira? What was your perception of road holding? Yes it could do with 100BHP more but hey, it’s a circa 65k car in base build, can’t compare with cars in a higher price bracket.
@Jay-xr3sb Жыл бұрын
@@RichReviews_ I understand new vs near new. My point is, you can't have it unless you're in a long queue. The AMG will face the same delays, how can you take thier word it will come on time and within budget. I'm comparing reality with your online configuration prices. I haven't driven it, I'll take your word it sticks to the road, it should given how wide it is. I believe you it handles fine but it's a no go for the reasons I've mentioned. I think it will be as common as the audi TT if it has a decent run. Just feels a little too late to the party. 981 performance in 2023, but heavier. Look at the Covette E ray or z06 if we're living in dreamland, ferrari sounds and performance, wild looks (a bit cartoonish). Be the first with an emira or pick one up in 4 years for less than the equivalent cayman GTS. Or just an A110 for the drive.
@RichReviews_ Жыл бұрын
I understand your points but...you cannot compare a brand new car price with used...that comparison would have to be made in the future with comparably aged sports cars obviously with similar levels of specification and similar levels of 'want' from prospective customers.

Would be nice for Lotus to offer a plain steering wheel, a la Porsche….and an engine start button cover delete.🙄🤪 Electronic folding side mirrors would also be a very practical option.
@RichReviews_ Жыл бұрын
The electronic pad on the steering could be a pain but I have heard there may be an option added to the screens where you can switch it off while driving so you don’t accidentally operate some of its functions. In addition, the door mirrors do fold electronically…see here for the specification of the models… media.lotuscars.com/en/models/emira.html

No one wants the auto on the Lotus FE. Also, those that compare the Emira to a GTS will always buy the GTS but those buying the Lotus would never consider the GTS. Drive the Emira and you will 'get it'. Regarding the interior, the Emira is far more special than the Cayman.
