A talk by Damo Mitchell on the dangers of developing excess energetic Heat as you increase the volume of Qi through internal training. Qi is hot, especially if your body its not able to cope with the volume you are working with. This is discussed in the video along with signs and symptoms of developing too much energetic Heat. It is hoped that this video may contribute to safety in the Qigong world.

Another top video with a courageous delivery. I went to my Chinese Dr years ago and the same symptoms have always been there each time I go to see him. Damp Heat. So I just continually buy bags of herbs to reduce the symptoms and drink it every day. It seems to work for me as I manage to subdue the heat continually along with the diet. Especially living in Portugal in the summer. I have become very aware of the signs immediately. Notice that meditation is the most important aspect that cools the mind and integrates the increase in Qi. 🙏

Perhaps a little bit off-topic but some of your comments near the end touch upon it; I always had an issue reconciling the western take on emotions, desires, willpower, intentions (i.e., Nietszche, ancient greek philosophy, Jung, True Will, individuality, etc) and the Eastern traditions. They seem mutually exclusive in many cases but that's where your perspective might be useful. Assuming many of us listening were brought up in classically Western culture, I think it might be helpful to explore the eastern mind/philosophy from a western perspective.

Thanks Damo. I'm not quite sure on the last part of what describe having to do if you experience the heat issue. Do you mean to do some relaxed calm mediation in full or half lotus or a typical taichi, bagua etc. stance? One example that I saw previously is if you take the bagua stance Lion opens its mouth where you have your two arms wide open in front of your body like a lions mouth and sunken hips on either the left or right side. There is one version where you vigorously push your qi to the surface of your body which pushes blood to the limbs ; then there is another version which tries to get microcirculations of chi but not in a vigorous way, its more relaxed and the feeling is on opening space in the internal body. Is it this latter version you can do more of to correct heat problems?

It would be better to simply this; Internal Chi exercises build Heat where Meditation builds Cool energy. To meditate correctly the spine must not be pinched or under pressure. Finding the right posture is very individual but most do fine standing, walking or sitting in a chair. Sitting down in difficult positions like lotus and lying down often cause strain and pinching after a few minutes which disrupt the energy. From there you simply stare around your room or listen around in a peaceful manner and let time do the rest, you can even ask for an answer to a problem you don't know like what dreams you had and give long spaces for the answer to come. 15 minutes - 1 hour is optimal.

This is helpful. I'm not part of any system, but had a spontaneous kundalini awakening 9years ago. No training, no grid, no teacher. I've had to learn as i go and have come a long way. But the energy still hasn't fully stabilised, neutralising the heat is a constant ongoing work. Once it awakening, no matter what I tried I couldn't turn it off. I've had no formal training re internal arts but the energy moving within me, seems to do its own thing internally, massive inner alchemy. I yield and partner, work with what it's doing. Honestly its taken over my life and nothing about that is an exaggeration. It's not that I haven't wanted a teacher, I've just not known were to start even looking. And because this has all happened outside of any system, I don't really fit in any one. But it's definitely a form of very deep, firey alchemy. Been seeing an accupucturist for nearly a year. It's helped but I think I've been teaching him more. Not intentional. But it definitely helps support body and most of work has been on kidney channel.

Try this: wherever the energy is at the moment give it attention. Follow it with your mind wherever it wants to go and after few minutes you will see that it will start to push more and more to the surface of the body through some of the points of the MCO. When this happens stop and don’t do anything and simply observe how it will start to flow through the MCO on it’s own. But remember, it won’t flow in a big chunk all at once, it’s more like sandwatch.

After dropping into being and merging as I describe it , or when the cue came being not doing, I started having daily experiences of merging and dissolving , may 2014 when whole body Kundalini blew up, was four months in that period of blissful being itself abundance, after Kundalini started running through the channels raging though having kriyas I didn't have context and though I'm doing something wrong, took four years to get a context for this and a realization of how the mechanics working, which bloomed further later, so last few years it's better ,but I think independent of where you start jhana will blow up the energy body, or the sensations from the built up of the energy have to be met in a jhanic state

When you talked about meditation neutralizing intent.. I heard also about doing meditation and erroneously falling into 'the void'. Could you do a talk on this error and what should be the correct trajectory? I feel that my will has largely been eroded by this meditative 'mistake' and I feel left in the middle of nowhere and don't know what to do lol. Non-dual practices or self negating awareness etc left me lost where there's no certainty about anything. It feels a bit ungrounded and I don't know which direction is up anymore.

I had that issue in the past and luckily I managed to correct it with good guidance. The answer is that you are releasing the tension on your awareness too fast so sloth kicks in before attention/concentration grows strong enough to be stable, that way you are unable to see unconscious thinking coming and release it before takes over. Im sorry if my english is poorly written, its not my first language. Hope this helps.

@@rafaelbf1575 ha, that's interesting. Indeed I drop everything pretty quickly, detaching myself. I know that my involvement in thinking will prolong the noise so I abandon my will and curiosity and don't entertain anything and then sorta just listen. I don't entertain the curiosity that comes from listening so without any mental participation, the things that are experienced are basically ignored and turn into useless noise. There's nothing to do at that point because I can't learn if I don't engage with anything, and I have no direction if there's no purpose for what I'm doing. I thought that out of silence something will bloom but generally it doesn't. Sloth definitely kicks in at that point as I'm sitting there for no reason and am not engaging with anything. I've never learned what meditation really is so I could never really use it for my development but meditation and contemplation with the aim of negation of self generally leads me to a state of sloth. Sometimes life seems to amplify but very rarely. Deadness seems the more common result. Attention/Concentration needs an object, right? And should I allow my mind to engage with that object and fully entertain it rather than observe it passively? I tend to reject the mind's activity as if all of it is bad if I'm meditating, but activity about the object might be useful? (whether you reply or not, I will play with that you said and observe and work through the causes of tensions, understanding it before blindly dropping it. This seems at least capable of raising insight and greater self awareness rather than remaining ignorant and just hoping for some effect to happen randomly. Thank you.)

@@mystictheninja1486 I see you are strong willed towards the goal, it takes courage to keep on going. I lack vocabulary to be of help, but ill give it a try. Meditation, even applied to daoist practices needs a balance between effort of conciously doing and releasing in the mind/body. This means that your awareness of knowing what is actually happening inside you must be, at first, sustained with effort and so it is even if you are using the breath to anchor the attention. Meaning effort just to maintain awareness even if the mind is strongly pulled away by thought, sloth, etc keep looking/listening, see the mind and body do its thing till it fades its compelling atraction and carry on the practice without severing the stream of conscious awarenes. Labeling the thoughts, feelings or sensations in the background as uninportant will only make them to come back stronger or too subtle to notice and is a form of doing that works against awarenes in a sense. I believe you got pretty good at relaxing and are just halfway into getting good results when concetration grows stronger and goes deeper until permeates the body and the mind. Then you can put to good use the skill you already have of relaxing little by little the tension of sustaining the awarenes to the point it does it on its own. Its like driving, you must learn how much gas needed depending on the gear you are on for the car to respond efficiently. Good luck and safe travel. Hope this is been of help.

@@mystictheninja1486 Sorry i believe i didn't answer an important question you made. Your mind must be free to engage with everything it likes, even with the object of your concentration. The trick here is that full awreness must be present and not participating in the play so it can keep growing in strengh and range to a boiling point that goes way further into the experince you mentioned. Appliying this to 'anchoring the breath' and subsecuent practices of Damo Mitchell it worked pretty well for me.
@mystictheninja1486
@mystictheninja1486 5 ай бұрын
@@rafaelbf1575 Thank you very much for your advice! That is a very powerful hint. "The mind must be free to engage with everything it likes, but full awareness must be present and not participating with the play." Of course the stream of thought carries one away to normal superficial states, but not entertaining any thought and turning off the brain feels like a zombie, dead and full of static. What you're alluding to seems like something free and capable to inquiry and learn but remains steadfast in a sort of 'divinity' of awareness, giving attention a quality that can both grow and nurture the quality (vaguely stated, but I mean that attention and full awareness has something divine about it, for lack of a better word, and I think that might elevate the state of anything in general so long as it's present and in the foreground, before the play of mind). Let the play happen, if it will, and participate as helpful, but remain anchored in attention foremost. I'll apply this constantly until I sort it out effortlessly. "The compelling attraction" of the mind has largely lost its allure (after certain sublime experiences) which makes that labeling of 'unimportant' happen pretty quick. So I should stop doing that and instead give it its proper attention until it subsides peacefully on its own, rather than forcefully or abruptly? And if I'm not doing a specific qi building exercise, speaking strictly about spiritual growth, do you know where my mind could best absorb into to allow some growth? I've had a few experiences that felt divine and sublime but they were just experiences that didn't last for more than a couple of hours. I'm not sure where to put my attention to encourage an upward trajectory anymore. Being attentive to a tree or the sound of water, or to the buzzing and pulsing within my body feels.. somewhat pointless? There might be a sense of peace, more or less, a sense of comfort and surrender, maybe some insights into my own insignificance, but I will continue my day, maybe a little more quietly than before. What must be done to achieve a higher state of union with divinity, a connection to it, something that will provide a stimulus for ever upward states? (I really think this state of perpetual release and attention that you pointed to will be helpful. In my experience it feels like 'I can't do anything to become more divine', but that by not resisting, by releasing the false I, that I become suitable for the divine's blessing, if it pleases it, but I don't know what else to do.) 🙏 Thank you for your kindness. It's always beautiful to see inner light.
