To add some info about Food Wars, it is one of my fave series of all time but you are right the quality does go down a lot from a certain point. Everything upto and including volume 16 is some of my favourite shounen of all time, volumes 17 to 31 are still really fun reads but the last 5 volumes (it goes to 36) were a really rushed ending, it essentially got the Bleach treatment. I do recommend reading the first few chapters online and see if you enjoy it, if you do enjoy those then I'd say buy the first 16 volumes and take it slowly from there
