Theres a video somewhere where they've gathered up all the great Mr O's, plus an extra couple of huge names, on a stage, doing a sort of mixed banter and BB history chat in front of an audience. Someone there mentions that he thinks that Lou could have been maybe the greatest of all time, if he hadn't pursued movies so early on instead. The others agreed. So... the community might not have that view of him, but the GOATs of the sport do. I see that as much more honorable, than if it would have been the other way around.

Lou Ferrigno is my favorite body builder/ work out icon of all time I grew up watching him in the Hulk and wore out a VHS tape of Pumping Iron. Thinking back to how those guys trained compared to today has led me to rethink what you "need" to train. Especially as I have had to put together a home gym in limited space and budget due to COVID. There was a rawness to training back then. Just man and steel in a gym where they went to put in work with no frills. It was pure function over aesthetics. Yet they still got the job done.

Lou also has an encyclopedic knowledge of bodybuilding history. An old friend of mine who sells comicbook art, Scott Eder, told me that he met Lou once and told him about his uncle, the strongman Marvin Eder. Lou said incredulously: Marvin Eder was one of the strongest men ever. I’m crazy about both comics and bodybuilding and I was so excited when I found out Scott was the nephew of Marvin Eder, and that he talked about it with Lou Ferrigno!

In 1992 Lou should have placed higher 1st at least 2nd top 5 for sure just look at the video big Lou got the best body yeah there's a few things he could have worked on a bit more but damn look at him on that stage mass monster man when you look at Lou on stage next to the others big Lou is the guy you wanna be greatest comeback ever Lou was still going while Arnold was making last action hero and being a movie star. To me Lou doesn't get enough credit for being one of the best like Arnold. Lou is very underrated my top 3 bodybuilders are Arnold big Lou and Franco there are others that are very underrated that make the list but way to many to list. Yes this was one of the greatest comebacks of all time that's why it would have been better if he ranked higher he deserved to cause big Lou was a mass monster.

Just as impressive as adding all that size was coming in with conditioning that didn't look out of place in the 90s either. I think the other part of the story that doesn't get told is that after the 94 Masters Olympia where he placed second, rather than going all-in to take a shot at winning the next year, which he definitely could have, he retired again to take care of his family. He worked as hard as anybody to prove himself to himself and others but was also willing to acknowledge that there were more important things.
