Not DnD, different system, but I have a story a bit like this, only it somehow worked out. There were two enemies, in different rooms. I was fighting one (a xenomorph) in one room, along with two others. It had already taken down one of my allies. In the other room, two other players were facing this other thing (a perfected). The perfected tried to do something to one of the people in the room with it, but they resisted. Second attempt, the player let it happen, because they'd already encountered a perfected as a sort of ally. It turns out it was trying to do this death kiss thing that instantly drops someone to 0hp. After it did that, it came into the room where I was fighting the xenomorph. It seemed to pacify/calm the xenomorph, then tried to do the death kiss on the other character in the room, but initially failed (went for the kiss, target passed the roll to pull away). My character had not seen the death kiss, and thought this thing was some kind of angel. I went up to it, to try and gently get its attention. I was expecting it to go for the kiss, and I knew that my character (the only PC any good at combat) would allow it and be instantly incapacitated, which would almost certainly lead to a TPK. Fortunately, my character's belief that the perfected was some sort of angel meant it decided to take the xenomorph and just leave. I was as stunned as everyone else. Now they all think I understand what's going on, and one of them tried to trick me into revealing stuff, but I'm probably one of the most clueless of the group and I'm loving it.

It has been said that "winning D&D" isn't a thing unless you judge it by how much fun everyone at the table is having; and "being good at D&D" doesn't make sense unless you're gauging how what you're saying and doing is contributing to that good time around the table. In this light, yes, the Intrepid Heroes are unequivocally better at D&D than most people, and this clip of Brennan and Lou is a master class demonstration.

Honestly, the twice is Gunnie at the casino and Fabian at Leviathan. This particular one I feel like Lou was 1000% in control in a way the other times he wasn't - he didn't HAVE to ignore all these cartoon red flags, there were many ways he could have believably roleplayed his way out of them, this was HIS choice.
