He’s a business man, he’s not trying to just make it as a rapper, he’s getting his bread up with rap while tapping into other revenue streams. It’s not a fall off when it’s intentional

He is just a hustler. Not even a businessman. Others saw something in him and exploited that. They made those songs for him but they alsotook royalties from those songs. All they did was use his persona and his status as a down to earth hustler to profit. He is just a thug from the streets who has that I dont give a s..t expression and attitude about himself. The moment he formed his label, I saw the beginning of the end. He got greedy and employed sub par producers because he didnt want to share royalties with huge producing houses who have banger songs and ghost writers. He obviously burned the briges with those who got him in the game by going on his own after 1 album. Dude, you dont do that- you pay your dues to your mentors. You pay them back by working for them and advance in business by staying loyal. he obviously doesnt know that much about music like those who coached him know. He doesnt have those resources. Now he is making mid level tracks without the services of producers and ghost writers of big ass labels. He was stupid to believe into his own hype. Rappers dont realize that the LABELS ALWAYS WIN. Very few independent rappers out there.

Alot of people are talking like the genre as a whole has been experiencing a downturn lately. At least in terms of the numbers being a bit lower each year over the past few years. I think alot might be complacency like he said in the video. Also RICO is really fucking up rap imo, and the "lifestyle" isn't exactly sustainable long term. There's alot of huge names on tour this summer too, and I think there's alot of artists upset that they can't draw in a market thats so competitive rn. Just some thoughts

Lil Baby album switched up after that Rico was thrown at ysl. Which would explain the delay of the album that was supposed to come out in June, and name it its only me. Lil Baby is doing everything to avoid any negative attention that can draw him and 4pf into a RICO case. He been participating in community activities, rebuilding his hood, open up a restaurant and do anything to rebrand himself. Atlanta will always rock with Lil Baby and know whats up. Dont let this last album fool you. Lil Baby is still that Guy.

I notice this Trend with a lot of ATL rappers like Future and migos before him. They come out a with a sound that everyone fucks and listens to heavy for a couple years then at some point they kinda burn out. It could be because they put out too much music in a short period of time. All the songs and albums start to sound too similar and repetitive

I think what happens is that lifestyle does not cater to real people with real problems. Like spiritual, mental, physical, financial, and emotional health. Too many people around with their hands out 24/7 and not helping the artist or truly loving them for who they are on a personal level. They can feel the lack of love, but they have to save face for those who don't care anything about them. But what they can do for them. That's getting played. It's been played out.

Lil Baby's music isn't that unique (not saying he's bad) overall and he's elevated around other artists in my opinion. He's not falling off, he's a successful music artist, but not a VERY successful music artist. Very successful music artists can sell out arenas by themselves like Drake, Kendrick, Eminem, and even artists most generally don't know like NF and Russ have as well. Numbers don't mean a thing in the long term if you don't have something that makes you stand out or a strong personal connection to your fanbase.

He formed his own record label when he was on teh very start. He practically burned a lot of bridges because of it. He might sound , talk and act like a smart person but in reality he isnt. The big mistake he made was leaving the label who actually produced his bangers. He started to get let fame get into his head. Watch how everyone will just ignore him and forget about him. You dont form your own label after 2 albums bro WHAT? To get into the game first u need to pay your dues and work for the people who got you into the business. All famous and successful legends payed their dues. This guy acted arrogantly and decided to cut the people who got him into the game and that's a big no. His star exploded so ofc nobody was stupid to attack him or beef with him while he was on the top. But he fucked many people during this period and bit the hand that fed him. Now watch how slowly as his star fades people will start talking about him how he is not all that and forget about him. He is worth only 8 mil dollars and acts as if he's billionaire lmao. Lil baby is a fad just like Da baby. People are moving on that's how the rap game goes. It's not always the artists fault though. The industry is foul. Labels will oversaturate the market with an artist and pay for plays and other fake me out methods. Once the artist "falls off" they move onto their pre planned "next big thing" The industry doesn't care about artist. Hell they make more money when an artist dies. This too goes the same for everything around us. The phone in your hand assuming it's expensive. It will be out of date within 2 years. And that's by design. They will update your shit until it's unusable just to make you buy the "next new thing" Think about this. A GE fridge from the 1950s lasted 50 years without being unplugged. A GE fridge from 2023 is only rated to last 14 years. Everything they feed us is designed as a "fad" so that we keep buying shit. It's all greed guys
@neverhavingfun
@neverhavingfun 10 ай бұрын
I understand your perspective on the music industry and consumer products, and you bring up some valid points. It's true that there's a natural ebb and flow in the music scene as tastes evolve over time. Artists' popularity might indeed change, but it doesn't necessarily make them mere "fads." They can still have an impact and dedicated followers. Regarding the music industry, while there have been cases of oversaturation and manipulation, it's worth noting that many artists succeed due to their genuine talent and hard work. Their success isn't solely attributed to label promotion, but also their creative expression and the connection they establish with their audience. In terms of appliances and technology, it's fair to acknowledge the differences between older products and modern ones. Technological advancements have led to more features and capabilities in newer devices, which can influence their longevity. While planned obsolescence exists, it might not be the sole reason behind product updates. The rapid pace of technological advancement can be driven by consumer demand for improved functionality and new features. People's choices to upgrade devices or support new artists often come from genuine value they see in those decisions. Lastly, it's important to recognize that an artist's popularity fading over time doesn't erase their contributions. Many artists leave a lasting impact on culture and continue to inspire new generations. In the same way, changes in consumer products are often a mix of evolving demands and advancements rather than solely driven by greed. In essence, the dynamics in both industries are complex and not always attributed to greed. It's crucial to consider the interplay of various factors in understanding these changes.

This was the best comment here and should be pinned and like far more. The reason it isn't is precisely what is wrong with society and has everything to do with the video we are watching. You wrote what these young kids call "a whole ass essay" and they don't have the attention span to read it, so it goes unread. Meanwhile the "whole ass essay" you wrote is actually just a dozen sentences or so, maybe less, and has the most informational value. I'm ranting about a youtube comment, but I saw some serious symbolism in this for some reason.

It’s just like EVERY other artist (outside of Drake and Kanye) that blows up. Their core base grows until they get national exposure, then radio stations and streaming platforms see them as a new cash cow and they completely over saturate the market. The core fans get upset because now they see many other fans as being on the bandwagon, and then the fans that only tuned in because they were popular get tired of hearing an artist they didn’t ACTUALLY like. Sales/numbers drop and they say the artist fell off. Rinse and repeat.

The problem with the "sales" quoted is that it's a misrepresentation of the facts because it includes actual physical sales, downloads and EQUIVILANT SALES (AKA STREAMS)... Lil Baby is an artist who appeals to the streets and generation x'ers - aka people who stream or buy small value tickets/venues (House of Blues, SOBs)... He's just not an arena artist... and his rinse & repeat method doesn't work long for an audience with major ADHD problems

I believe that the energy you put out is the energy that you will receive. Maybe it’s because of the things he said about gunna. Maybe God saw him going in the wrong direction and this whole “falling off” thing is a blessing in disguise. Maybe his music was never that great and people loved HIM so much that it made the music sound better than it was. Your energy is everything and you will only be on the outside, what you are inside. Life works that way. Your ego will ruin you and God will bring you down to your knees if need be for you to understand.

@@Erica-cf1xb I agree to an extent. Not everyone is crooked but a vast majority of the ones in power are. But again, if the old heads who have been screwed by the system, teach the youngsters how to avoid being a slave to a label and go into business for themselves. The big thing is, is remembering where you came from and the love you really have for your craft. 🤷🏽‍♂️ The gate keeping of knowledge is bad for business.

I think one of the problems of this era of hip hop is the availability and replay ability of songs and albums. While that’s great in some respects, it’s much easier to get yourself out there, to be heard and known by a much wider audience much faster than before. It also means artists aren’t taking that time that before was essential to honing their craft and organically building up a fan base. Realistically most people will come across your music by recommendation or algorithm from yet, Spotify etc and might then go on to listen to a few more songs or even an album whereas before you’d build up hype and interest through performing at local venues which just instantly gives people more of a connection as they see you in person and can almost relate to you more as a person rather than just a voice coming out their speaker or earphones. Also as music is basically free now it is much less of a commitment to listen to an album or song so people are automatically less invested and less inclined to see you succeed which I think then bleeds through into things like tours and shows not selling as well because people don’t have that attachment that they had to rappers and stars back in the day.
