My first job in college in 1984 was working weekends at a garage by myself. The garage portion had long ago closed so I just sold gas & never left the building. One rainy Saturday I discovered the owner had his ‘67 Thunderbird Sedan stored in the garage, still like the day it rolled out of the factory. On slow days I’d just sit in it & imagine what it must’ve been like to own & drive such a beautiful piece of machinery, & being a teenager, what it would be like to go on a date with that enormous back seat. It was 17 years old then & still smelled brand new!

Had a friend growing up whose parents had a 1970 four door T-Bird with the 429. It was so cool. Green with a black vinyl top that had an alligator style texture to it. I remember riding in the back seat, the way the vinyl top was on part of the door, it felt like you were riding in a limousine.

these T-Birds used to be advertised on the back cover of the old National Geographic when I was a kid, my Dad had a subscription, the cars were always shown with sleek backdrops, like Palm Springs or Hollywood with well dressed people hanging around the cars. When I was a kid I always imagined only rich people could afford them, most of the interiors had sort of a space age theme, with tambour door consoles brushed stainless steel trim, the swing a way steering wheel, and flamboyant interior colours and bucket seats. Always thought they were aspirational cars!

In January of 1968, my late, beloved father surprised the entire family (he was an engineer...never did anything that wasn't completely thought out, hence it was out of character) by bringing home a brand new 68 TBird two-door for my mom's birthday. It was Wimbledon White (no vinyl top thank God...the coupes were so much slicker without the landaus), with white interior and black carpeting and dash (with wood inserts). He bought it loaded (they still offered the 390 at the beginning of the model year, which he probably would have bought, but when he ordered it, only the new 429 was available). It was fairly loaded with cruise, 8 track stereo, power windows. My mom was blown away and we loved that car. The 429 was a brute...endless torque. Six months after that, my dad was so enamored of the car, he bought a used '67 4 door landau 'Bird with the 428 engine for himself. It was Brittany Blue with a dark blue landau top. Suddenly in six months we went from a 59 Ford Galaxie and a 66 Ford Galaxie to two Birds. We thought we were millionaires. They drove them for years, and I was so nuts about them, being in my teens, I took over all maintenance and became our master car detailer. They were always showroom. The side by side of the two engines was interesting. The 428 was more refined, turbine smooth, very quiet, not as fast. The 429 would pull a house off its foundations and spent most of its life in high gear...the torque was so massive the thing never downshifted. Great cars...I miss them. One error on this video: the owner said 1967 was the first year with the cruise control buttons in the steering wheel....actually it was 1966 when Ford began offering that option.

Yeah the new Lincolns have the "Eco-boost". This T-Bird has the "Ego-boost" engine. Man if I had that car being my age, I would take it on nice long vacations. I would not care if I put miles on it. I would enjoy it, love it, take good care of it, but yes, I would drive it. (not to work or the grocery store, but for pleasure and long trips). Highway driving does not wear out a car like city driving does.

Ford invented the personal luxury coupe when they expanded the Thunderbird from 2 seats to 4 in 1958. I know there's people who swear by the 1st gen 2 seaters as the originals and everything since is just a lounge chair with the Thunderbird name on it but until the early 70s they were very classy, elegant and sophisticated cars. This one is very highly optioned, cruise control in 1967 was still a relatively new technology to begin with. Very nice, I love it!

An incredible survivor for sure! The Wimbledon White paint with the Parchment vinyl top is quite striking and elegant. Those little yellow stars with the numbers in the center found on the underside of the decklid and inside the gas door were the paint inspectors stamps done at the Wixom assembly plant. Once dry, the fresh paint finish had to pass inspection before the body moved down the line to the next station. That original Burtex trunk lining looks almost flawless. Clearly this Thunderbird received exceptional care as well as little use. By the way, 1966 was actually the first year for the Highway Pilot control (cruise control) with the actuating buttons located on the spokes of the steering wheel in Thunderbirds. What a beautiful '67 coupe. If Chris ever decides to part with it, I want it!!! Thanks to both Chris and Lou for sharing this with us.

Wow-wow-wow ~ Just spectacular _ Congrats to the owner for not letting that one get by you _ And compliments to our presenter, Lou, for grabbing the "moment" to create this here _ Very nice color combination, especially with the interior accents _ A survivor to the max _ Got to love that steering wheel action getting in and out of the Bird _ Wonder if this 2nd owner knows the car's story of these low low miles? . . :>)

OMG! Only 18 000 original miles to the odometer? That’s mostly impressive, for a 1967 ThunderBird of the third generation. This car is really the epitomy of luxury as it leaves me completely breathless. Needless to say that the chrome, the interior the trimmings and the sheet metal are all unrestored. From the back quarter panels, all the way to the front fenders, this car really offered a unique and sharp body style design, when it came out of the Ford factory, during its heydays, as opposed to the four door ThunderBird Landau, with the suicide doors. Like you said, Lou, this car is truly a remarkable survivor and a real masterpiece. Hi praise, for this one. Thank you so much, for this memorable presentation, Lou! Greetings and Salutations! from Montréal, Canada! Johnny! 💖👍😁✔️

My favorite car of all time, I had a ‘67 with a 390, 4-door for 20 years and a 1970 4-door with a 429 when I graduated high school. Fastest car I ever owned. The ‘67 has my favorite look of that generation and the only car I prefer as a 4-door. But this one is stunning.

Beautiful. All ‘60’s T Birds are fantastic cars, this low mileage original is exceptional. I like T birds because whilst they had all the comforts of large cars, they were not particularly large by the standards of the day. Full of intricate details and probably the best logo of any American car. That rear seat was called a ‘cove seat’ and was introduced 8n 1964.

I Love these models that had the small back window. The models that didn't have the backseat side side windows just didn't look good to me...besides I need to see whtat's going on outside! This is a beautiful example of a 1967! Wow, what a clean engine bay. Your video was perfect there! Loved the interior. Your video was again perfect showing the interior. These birds had so much class. When I had a 91 (I think it was)...the class of the old birds like this one was all but gone. It was a fun car though. I always learn something from your videos. Today, it was the back windows sliding back instead of up and down! Thanks Lou. C'mon everyone - - let's give this one a big thumbs up!

Hi, Lou! This was the beginning of the fifth generation T-Bird, which was the first with the hidden headlamps and the first and only with a four-door. The details are just exquisite: the landau bars, the sequential taillights, the wrapover console, the woodgrain trim on the ceiling, the wraparound rear seat (would love to have a nice lady waiting there for me, too, LOL!), and I never knew that anything other than some station wagons had a window that opened and closed horizontally! And how that engine just whispers! As the slogan said, unique in all the world! Glad this one found you, and thanks to you and Chris for taking us all on this sublime luxury ride!

It is just amazing and I remember those tilt away steering wheels. They had them back in the early 60's too. They were so awesome to watch work. I did not know everything power was on a vacuum that is amazing. Of course I loved those sequential turn lights and those hide away head lights. Just a awesome body style I always loved these body styles. I do believe this was the first year also for the four door version with the suicide doors. Just a outstanding unit and I can understand why he wants to keep the mileage down. Thanks for sharing Lou!

Amazing!!! We had a ‘68-‘69 model 4-door Landau T-bird. It had suicide rear doors. I also picked up a cool Ford dealership promotional item -a Philco AM/FM radio beautifully executed in 1/25 scale as a maroon ‘67 T-Bird coupe. It was a a rolling model- the interior was where the speaker was placed. Was in perfect shape - Still worked!
